Wummers and Mods
I was rather disappointed with the official response to Wummery on Liam Main's First India Test thread yesterday.
Is there anyone to discuss this with, or should I just request here that someone is banned?

Re: Wummers and Mods
Cowshot did you see my post on the thread? If theres any major wumming I will ask for the thread to be locked.
Re: Wummers and Mods
Just seen and replied.
Sorry - what does a thread being "locked" mean? Sounds like "shut down"?
Must admit I didn't complain personally - I assumed the people more directly insulted would have done so.
Will use the ! button and see how it goes.

Re: Wummers and Mods
It means that no one can comment on the thread.
I'll see how it goes, hopefully we can just all discuss todays play.

Re: Wummers and Mods
There's just one other thing I wanted to add, and of course the phone rang at the worst possible time.
Look, I'm sorry to keep going on this - we all hope we can just discuss the day's play - but I think it important.
If someone comes on a thread to disrupt and annoy, then shutting down the thread simply does the WUMs' job for them.
It seems to me at present that your response to a WUM is to give them what they want - the destruction of the discussion.

Re: Wummers and Mods
A thread is usually only locked for ten minutes or so to allow everything to cool down before it is re-opened for discussion, it's very rare that a mod would completely shut down a thread, and would only do so if it was beyond saving.

Re: Wummers and Mods
It's not as simple, I'm afraid to say. Obviously we're always vigilant in regard to tracking and monitoring wums, but we can't act through knee jerk decision's. There are steps that as moderators, we have to follow.
Obviously we have our own opinions, but part of the gig is remaining impartial and not letting our opinion cloud our judgement.
That said, things can't always go to plan on forums like this, so your views and opinions on the matter are appreciated and something which will no doubt be discussed by the moderation and admin teams.

I appreciate there are issues up to and possibly including legal ones. I'm glad to see the matter is likely to be discussed. It's a good site and almost all of us want to keep it that way.

And I also want to add, just because you don't see any action taken on the threads themselves, does not mean it has not been done via pm.
