The inestimable Stephen Nolan interviews Matt Hampson

Post by Portnoy on Tue 16 Aug 2011, 10:39 am

Stephen Nolan, to me the best current affairs broadcaster on 5Live, is currently interviewing Matt Hampson.

It might be worth picking it up on iplayer if you can't listen now.

Cheers Portnoy - will check it out later. I've have been reading the Sunday Times extracts from the new book to be released this Thursday (18th August) "Engage: The Fall and Rise of Matt Hampson " the biography by Paul Kimmage - LINK

If the extracts are anything to go by this should be an excellent read

Yep, I've been reading those. Think I'll get the book. Looks like there's a fair bit of humour in there too from reading the extracts (see Cockerill on Regan) OK

To be honest, it wasn't a book sell interview. But the iron lung sound effects brought it home a bit. A dangerous game is rugby.

As a Ulster native I would like to say that I have the utmost admiration for Matt Hampson and the way he conducts himself. Can any of imagine what the guy has gone through - a true hero with unbelivable fortitude.

However I have to say Stephen Nolan is a complete D**k head. An arrogant obnoxious excuse for a human being. If you like him so much in England do us a favour and keep him

I agree he's a bit of a gimp, however the Stephen Nolan show which used to be on BBC 1 was absolutely hilarious courtesy of the local folk that would phone in with their opinions.

I wouldnt mind seeing him brought back purely for some of the stuff on that show.

Matt Hampson was on the BBC this morning. I don't really know that much about him and what happened but he seems like a really brave guy.

Hi Rodders - I watched it just before leaving for the office. Here's a snapshot of his story - LINK

and his Foundations home page - LINK

Will definitely be getting that book

Was thought to be an England and Tigers prop for the next decade or so, a very talented young man who was coming through the England ranks at the same time as Haskell et al. A scrum collapsed on an England under 20s training session and Hampson took the full weight of it on his neck. He barely survived and has been wheelchair bound ever since. He was started a charity to raise money for victims of severe rugby injuries. Tigers have been raising money for him for several years and many other AP clubs have joined in as well as he is quite a character and was very popular.

An inspirational young man and I'm sure the book will be quite a read.
