Post by Demon Racer on Thu 29 Mar 2012, 10:43 pm

Just need some help on this.

Does the rebate happen automatically?

Or do I have to contact HRCR?

Thanks

Automatically in my case, though if you believe you are entitled to one then you can contact them and question it.

Are you talking the ones from the tax coding error 2006 onwards, or this year?

Ok thanks. I guess if I get an automatic one it would come on 05/04/2012?

If you are PAYE and there has been over-payment (say for example you lost your job part way through the year), you will eventually get the money back automatically, although it usually takes a few months. My kid brother recently (around Christmas) got a rebate on the 2010-11 year overpayment that occurred because he went off travelling in August 2010 and so ended his job.

Not so sure what happens if you were self-assessing and paying on account - maybe it will get offset agaisnt next year's self assessment bill.

If you want it quick you will have to contract them, but with this new Pay As You Earn system being introduced, rebates will soon be a thing of the past.
