America is the only Super Power in the world now, what makes it great?

Or is it really so great when so many people over there live in poverty while other have more money than they can spend?

Cricket urinates on baseball from a great height. Apologising as it does so, of course.

Lets be honest though, most American sports are garbage and I don't really get why people over here like it.

American Football is my main gripe, how this sport has got any sort of following in Europe I don't know. Call me a cynic but I think people only like it over here because its marketed by all of America's top sponsors so that people think its 'special' because it's 'American'. All this razzmatazz over a sport that is the most tedious and dull thing I've ever seen.

Oh and Lacrosse, quite a few people like that too and every person I've met in my life who likes or plays it seems to be a complete and utter moron. (That doesn't mean everyone who does like it is a moron before anyone starts whining.)

Is that during a 4/5 day test that cricket does the urinating, luckless, the players will have plenty in them after all those tea breaks anyway.

Its all down to personal preference lads, different sports bring different things to fans. If you're a football fan you can't expect to get the same experience from American Football as you do with your sport, its an acquired liking. Its either for you, or its not. I think you've got it the wrong way round with AF too Phil, its because of American Football's popularity that brings in the sponsors and razzmatazz- a lot of people forget that the game's popularity pre-date's TV adverts and sponsorships.

One thing I don't get is the view that football fans in particular from the UK have on sports from any other country. You get this snobbery and sense of superiority as if the British are the master race at everything. These people seem to think they know everything about these other sports but clearly haven't got a clue and then with their insular attitudes have the cheek to call people who like US sports insular, irony or what! (and I don't mean all football fans here either, quite a lot don't have this attitude too).

These same people do stupid things like if you call association football soccer they start foaming at the mouth (metaphorically of course) as if you've just commited some awful crime whilst they don't realise that soccer is a phrase coined in Britain and used in a few countries throughout the world, not just the states. Every sport has its morons phil, not just American ones.

You make a lot of good points gaelicwarrior, but I can't budge on my opinion on American Football, over in the states its an immovable institution but over here people get caught up in the stars about how its special when it isn't. If you called me ignorant on the sport I wouldn't defend myself.

Football fans over here are highly ignorant, I don't see football as such an amazing sport as people make it out to be. But you can't really avoid it either sadly. I'm hugely disillusioned with the financial aspect of the game and when you grow up in an area which is the only Manchester City stronghold in the country (Stockport) when you're a supporter of a different team football becomes a negative subject to talk about rather than a positive.

American football is rubbish that is why it has no audience outside of the USA.

I am not a great cricket fan but it does have a large worldwide following.

I would imagine a lot more folk watch cricket in India than American Football in the USA.

Fair enough on AF Phil, I must admit I have come across a few American Football fans from the UK who are a wee bit like that, sometimes people can over-exaggerate what they see as the good points of their sport.

On football I've got a similar experience, I live in the west of Scotland in a rangers stronghold but I'm a Liverpool man. There are a few decent fans around here but there are also a lot who seem to be more interested in Ulster Loyalism than the football, In conversations I've got stick for supporting an English club who have fielded Irish players and whose fans sing YNWA, which people here associate with their club's rivals.

Ah Gaelic, you have said everything I wanted to say.

I was already a fan of football when I came over here. (It's a bit tricky being the only Packers fan in Patriots territory, but hey). But knew absolutely nothing about hockey, basketball or baseball, and had the typical British mentality that hockey was just fighting on ice, basketball was the same as netball, and baseball was another name for rounders.

Four years later, and I'm a complete hockey and baseball fangirl, and will argue until the cows come home about how great these sports are. I do have to confess though that I still haven't 'got' basketball. Maybe because I'm only 5' 1".

Oh yes, and I'm just now getting into lacrosse too. So BigPhil, I hope you don't think I'm too much of a moron. Wink

Oh Doon, World Champs at that all right man. My kids used take fat pics in Florida. Some were so fat, they needed double-sized electronic wheelchairs. Bucket of Coke in one hand, family-pack KFC in the other. Unreal obesity. Something that has been exported to Yurop too.

Then you go to California and they all look like budding movie-stars.

Seems like a good time to bring this up...

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Law and how to follow them.

1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. Lev.25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. The passage clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev.11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev.11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

I dont normally (don't call me Norman darling) laugh out loud. But that - was excellent. guinness
