Loss of distance with wedges?
My last lesson changed my posture a bit. I'm a bit more upright now instead of hunched over and I have my hands a bit further away from my body instead of tucked in like Furyk and Fowler.
Nothing has changed with my ball striking but the strangest thing has been the loss of distance with my 60 and 56 wedges.
They used to be 80 and 100 yards almost everytime and now i'm hitting the 60 degree about 60 and the 56 about 80. Same ball flight and height but i've lost around 20% of my distance.
Absolutley baffled?
Anyone encountered anything like this before? I'll ask in my next lesson and see what the pro says but it's a bit frustrating as coming up short on yardages that are normally guaranteed is a round wrecker for GIR's and birdie chances.
Nothing changed with any other club distance wise.

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
Maybe the new posture has altered the loft and lie angle. Sounds like you maybe adding extra loft somewhere and that's turning your 56 effectively into your "old" 60.

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
That's quite some % loss on each of them. I could imagine that your change of posture etc has influenced your swing such that you're maybe not leading so much with your hands at impact and therefore have effectively increased their dynamic lofts cf. what they were before......but I'd expect you to see similar with other short irons for certain.

I assume you're striking them sweetly? Nice ball-turf and all that?

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
Yeah striking them well. Just baffling that its only with 2 clubs that I've seen a loss? I've played twice since altering my posture and my other distances seem the same.
I'll see what the pro says but it's a weird one.

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
The distances you are hitting them now are about right for a 56 and 60 degree wedge. Maybe the problem was before the posture change, not after. Maybe you were hitting them with hands well ahead of the club, so delofting them.

Well the hunt for a decent 52 wedge starts today as I have nothing reliable for 100 yards in anymore!

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
I would check that you are keeping your hands ahead of the club head to help drive the club head down and the ball forward. If you are standing more erect and hands further away, like with a driver, you may have started to sweep the ball with the wedges. Keep weight forward, hit down and squirt that ball forward off the turf.

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
Sounds about right from lairdy- change of clubface angle and all that.
Important thing is that you know the distance you are getting.

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
All very well but why is it happening with just the two shortest irons???

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
Navy- that's the most baffling aspect.
If it was every club I could accept that something had dramatically changed overall and just adjust my distances.
I've lost nothing with any other club and since I got a gps watch that measures shots i've had my distances nailed down pretty accurate.

Re: Loss of distance with wedges?
It could be that with the new set up you aren't as comfortable with these highest lofted clubs and are trying to help the ball up in the air.
