The "talk about the weather...." thread
Created by Cari on Wed Sep 28 2011, 19:57

On August 10, 2012:
According to the BBC Weather News, It looks like being a sunny, warm and dry final few days for most of the Olympic event venues with temperatures in the mid 20s and possibly up to the high 20s and staying fine through into the evening.

The weather will play a vital role for sailors and windsurfers at this summer's Olympic games and winds are expected to freshen up over the weekend with variable conditions over Weymouth. Good weather for sailors and also comfortable for spectators. Very Happy

http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/

Here in Cardiff, it's partly cloudy with a maximum temperature of around 23 degrees today, and it's looking to go up to 25 at the weekend. I'm not looking forward to that as I can't stand the heat, but at least it's cooler at night so I can sleep.

http://weather.yahoo.com/wales/cardiff-county/cardiff-15127/?unit=c

What's it like where you are? Are you looking forward to the Indian Summer? Cool

Sounds quite exotic. We've only got mouldy pigeons with buckled feet that go "hoohoo" and crap everywhere.

Pretty chilly here by the way.

I saw it was 2 degrees... enough to freeze your face off. I'd get blisters or severe skin peeling if I went there now.

It's happened before... bloody painful, like sunburn in reverse!

Today was the first morning in over a week I haven't had to defrost my car. It's been down to -5 on a couple of nights. Now it's supposed to be milder with heavy rain and strong winds. I prefer the frost.

You must have big microwave ovens.... Whistle

So do you mean cranking up the heat on the blower or those heating blocks you put under the car?

Laugh I hadn't thought of it like that!

I mean a combination of cranking up the heat on the blowers and scraping the frost off with a specifically designed implement. Like this

My chestnuts drag over hot sand and pine needles when I go out.

A real buzz in the city with all the Christmas shoppers/office workers/tourists out in force. Some amazing fashion on display... so many scantily dressed hotties.

My chestnuts thought Christmas had already come.

Hot this morning but the predicted cool change came in late this afternoon. It dropped 11 degrees in half an hour which was a relief.
20.7 deg. C at 9pm.

Well Wales and South West of England are getting another soaking. It's been raining pretty much non stop here since last night. There's been all sorts of travel problems.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-20824285

It's still raining now, but it's supposed to move away overnight. It's very windy too.

Warmer than expected today. Very nice day. Just past midday here already.

No mozzies or flies here. I haven't seen them in the city for ages. However, there's no shortage of them near rivers up north and out in the desert.

Tonight there's going to be fireworks in the shape of birds, bees, koalas and musical notes music .

It's some sort of tribute to the Kylie the"Singing Budgie" apparently.

It's going to be ridiculously hot over the next few days in southern Oz.

Poor blighters in SA, western Vic will be sweltering in the mid 40s. 48.2 degs in Eucla today. Could be a major fire problem about to unfold.

It will be very hot here too but the difference between the coast and say 30-50 km inland at the foot of the mountains can easily be 7 or 8 degrees... or more. The problem is consecutive days of a heatwave. Most people can handle a day of it but 3 or 4 days can take a huge toll. Need to keep hydrated.

Also a few more sharks off Sydney at Narrabeen and Manly in the last few days. One guy lost part of his hand at Diamond Beach on the mid NSW coast and a few unfortunate people have been caught in rips on the east coast.

It's so tempting to be in the water but things can also be very dangerous. I heard there were 9 deaths from shark attacks in WA last year but rips took the lives of 22 people there. Total drownings were 119 in all of Australia in 2012 - which takes into account people in private pools, cause not properly determined on boats or in the ocean, etc.

Keep the home fires burning.

If they catch you with a lighter outdoors acting suspiciously here - they'll probably throw you in jail - and possibly charge you with murder if it's the cause of any fire. It's that bad. Some idiot kids learned the hard way last year. Not jail; but massive penalties can apply now.

The problem here is that hundreds of fires occur naturally and unfortunately all of those forests of gums are basically flammable oil which tends to explode.
