Sorry if this is the wrong thread but just looking for some general info. I have a grandparent who, despite never having used a laptop in his life, wants one because apparently teletext won't show horseracing results anymore. Another catch is that they don't want broadband. I suggested getting a tablet as they can be just as good for the internet, but is it possible to get online using their wifi without broadband, would a dongle work the same?

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking?

If it is ways in which to get online, then:

A mobile phone network

A dongle

Broadband.

If it is just ways for the racing results:

Then a newspaper or the Sky Red button or BBC red button, im pretty sure there are services that will text results to your phone also?

Hope this helps, maybe someone more technically minded can help you more.

You would have to be carefull what Tablet you get if you want to use a dongle with it, Android and apple devices wont work with them.
You would have to use a pc tablet with windows running. and a usb connection.
You would need a Broadband connection to make wifi work on all devices.
LIke mackem said in the post above if it is only for racing results the BBC red button will provide that.
