The GOAT Competition
First topic message reminder :
Good Evening all,
You might have noticed that the GOAT section has been removed for the time being.
I am sure you will all agree that this has been a great feature over the last month and a huge thank you to MtotheC (and competitor champions)for running a very good event.
Unfortunately, after an indepth investigation, we have discovered widespread skulduggery when it has come to the voting of several ties.
Due to this, we have temporarily suspended the competition whilst we discuss what to do next. Needless to say, the member has received a permanent ban and this will not happen again.
Feel free to leave suggestions below but we are looking at specific ties and the possibility of rerunning these.
For the time being though, I would like to thank you all for your continued contributions to these threads - service will resume shortly

Re: The GOAT Competition
Just cut to the chase and give it to Bradman.
Shame that a couple of idiots have ruined a good debate and that's all it is really, not to see who the GOAT actually is.

Also a bit of a shame that Jordan, who for my money is a top 5 GOAT gets tarred by association, same with Lebron James who certainly shouldnt be in the top 64 but its probably one of the top 10 guys operating right now.

Re: The GOAT Competition
Agreed Diggers, said it at the time Jordan beating Robinson is not so far out of leftfield, the best basketball player of all time beating the best boxer. Tough on Robbo who is special but such is the nature of a competition such as this and random draws but the least you should be able to ask of such a process that whoever wins or loses does so as a consensus of the board otherwise it renders the process a nonsense. Also a slap in the face for everyone who has put a lot of work into the process, whose efforts have been nothing short of herculean.
I wrote one write up for a candidate. It took me an age, bearing in mind I am a fan of the man, he operates in my favourite sport and had only recently read his autobiography recently I can only imagine the time some who have done multiple write-ups frequently about guys outside their favourite sport have had to put in.

So we've uncovered one vote rigging crime. All we need now is to uncover how Steve Redgrave gets so many votes and we might have a clean competition.

Re: The GOAT Competition
I think the debates were enjoyable, at times informative and to me that was more important than any result. I mean at the end of the day, does it really matter who wins? (well clearly it does to some saddos, I just can't imagine how empty their lives must be if they feel they have to cheat on an online forum poll...geeez wtf????)

...on the Redgrave front....leave him alone, he shares a birthday with me!!
Actually so does Sir Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny. 14 Olympic golds between the 3 of them. I knew I should have taken sport more seriously as a kid!!

I think Tiger should come back in, if votes were rigged. In fact, any match with Jordan should be looked at.

No worries Milky, actually Sir Roger Bannister too. I almost feel unworthy to be born on that date. Maybe I'm a late blossomer and will take seniors Golf by storm winning everything in sight!!

As Stella said, just award it to Bradman. Any other outcome would be a despicable con anyway!

Now I can see why Borg was thrown out of this poll so early. If I remember well Spaghetti took a stance for Redgrave. He probably wanted to clear the way for a Federer win. What a git.

Was it?
Thought Johnson v Woods was OK (although SR may have voted against Woods a few times - once for each one of the nine chins he calls him).

Why because you like him, but he lost?
Reasons why he failed are:
Non golfers don't respect or like golf or golfers,
Woods is a guy very difficult to dislike.
Michael Johnson was the pinnacle of Athleticism for years. Woods puts a little ball into a hole.

Re: The GOAT Competition
So votes are only credible if they happen within UK office times?
It's just a bit of fun and Woods lost. A recount/re-run simply isn't necessary.
I happened to think both Baldy NIne CHins and Johnson were well matched. I wouldn't have wanted Woods to go through, but I wouldn't be calling it a conspiracy or fix if he had.

Re: The GOAT Competition
Where and when the voting process will be restarted has not been decided yet as we need to establish with something approaching accuracy when the nonsense and rigging started so all this speculation is largely pointless at this point. When we know you’ll know. We are of course conscious of not wanting this process to last another six months as if it does boredom and inevitably waning interest will set in.

no not saying that at all.
jeasus dude the whole point of this thread is this conspiracy.. If there are other match ups with the same evidence with the same winner!!!they offcourse have to be considered..
You might as well say that statement to everyone!!!
All your doing now is showing yourself to being a woods hater..
I know this is only abit of fun.. But jeasus this topic is the whole point of the thread!!

Re: The GOAT Competition
Well I am a self confessed Woods hater Oakey, you know that, but I did caveat that by saying I wouldn't have been surprised or calling foul had he gone through due to how well matched him and the proper athlete Michael Johnson were.
You are suggesting that because he didn't win as you'd like him to have done then he must have been subject to a fix. No real suspicious patterns arose until Jordan came up in later rounds to which Hans has admitted to.
Who is Jeasus by the way? The French Jesus?

4. cant be a judged sport
5. cant be a non athletic sport
6. cant only be from a fitness only sport

So we need someone scottish, in a sport that combines athletic ability, golbal appeal that is not judged who operates in the modern era. Does this mean Andy Murray is the GOAT because if it does I'll lock this thread right now.

He does like Murray and I've also heard him express admiration for Luke Donald, various Scandinavian golfers and even David Beckham but I think it would be between Michael Johnson, Maradona, Federer, some skiier no one's heard of and just because he's got the hots for her Fatima Whitbread.
