Pretty accurate tbh.
Some near the top aren't my personal faves but I can't deny their popularity.

Massive testament to Nintendo that a lot of the top ten are there games. I agree with most of them. I have never played WoW so I can't comment on where it should be placed but I am aware that it is hell of a popular!

It's an alright list I think. I can't stand Final Fantasy so i'd not have FF7 anywhere near the Top 100, and i've never played WoW, but Super Mario World is a fantastic game.

Agree with AberdeenSteve, it just goes to show that Nintendo always have been and always will be the godfather of video games.

I'm the complete opposite, Mario does nothing for me whilst stuff like WOW and Civilisation keep me hooked for months/years.

Its good to see Elite so high, as well as the original Goldeneye.

I was surprised to see Resident Evil so high compared to either Silent Hill (original) or Resi 4.

suprised COD4 wasn't #1 (judging by the amount people go on about it). Also suprised not to see assassins creed mentioned

Not necessarily the greatest but my favourites (quick list without multiples from the same series):

1. Zelda: A Link to the Past
2. Mario 64
3. Mario Kart 64
4. COD4
5. Metal Gear Solid
6. GTA: San Andreas
7. Orange Box
8. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
9. Alex Kidd in Miracle World
10. PRG4

I'm going to put my views out here with Assassins Creed and COD, they are merely populist games. They are the ones that have excellent PR teams to get sales from casual gamers. They are good games, but by no means monumental achievements.

I've only seen the top twenty, it's a rather obscure list and I'm surprised that Empire are rather upmarket and high brow with it's gaming content.

I think the list has been compiled with respect to the impact that each game has had for the seperate genres.

I'm glad Final Fantasy 7 has got #2, it's a game that was truly before its time. The presentation is now very dated, but it's a magnificent RPG.

I would go Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Just an absolute legend of a game.

Would like to have seen GTA in there as that certainly could keep you going for ages.

Number 1 and 2 are pretty spot-on. Final Fantasy 7 is my favourite game of all time, it's still the best game ever released by a country-mile in my opinion, everything was perfect.

But Super Mario is THE game. So simple yet never boring or failing to challenge. Stunning soundtrack too (like FF7) - a soundtrack adds so much more to a game than it is given credit for.

As someone said above, it's a credit to Nintendo just how many of their games are high on the list. It really is the most innovative games console company, even if they can't compete with the COD brigade these days.

The Ocarina of time is fantastic, I would have put that slightly higher and would've liked to see majora's mask. It's a shame Okami was overlooked as much as it was, and, Chrono Trigger should've been higher up too, great RPG.

I'm going to get this Okami, because I've heard good things.

I've found that it's much more economical (and fun) to buy old, crtically-acclaimed PS2 games pre-owned that you never had the chance to play, then new, all about the graphics, PS3 games.

I'm playing Half-Life 2 at the moment, The Orange Box (ok that's a PS3 release, but it's a tenner pre-owned), and it's a much better offering than any PS3 game I have bought so far

I might just do that.

For me, the original Resident Evil was one of the best games I ever played. So atmospheric. It came out about the same time as the original Tomb Raider on PS1, and both of them were just totally fresh offerings.

If only games manufacturers attempted to strip down the action a bit, and replace it with the tension of those games these days. Half Life 2 has the same level of suspense built into it.

But if you're just running around blasting things for the duration of the game, with scenery exploding every 10 seconds - it's impossible to build suspense into the experience. It can be exhilerating, but not "scary" for want of a better word.

What's the point of this rant? Who's it aimed at? I have no idea Smile

That's why I really enjoyed Alan Wake. The atmosphere and suspense in that game was brilliant.

I'm working through the Wii version of Okami atm, electric. Its fantastic, if you enjoy the legend of zelda series then you should like Okami, the gameplay is quite similar. It's also filled with classical Japanese visuals and mythology. The Wii version is the best one to get imo, the motion controls of the Wii remote make using the celestial brush much more enjoyable.

my favorite has always been zelda Ocarina of time. the n64 was by far my farourite console with golden eye, mario 64 and mario kart. was also at the age when i could enjoy it most.

glad to see double dragon hit the list (i did the list backwards and was thinking it wasnt going to make it) but no streets of rage??

also some gta made it but not my favorite which was vice city. proper rip of scar face and few other ganster films but sound track was by far away the best.

few too many first person shooters for my liking, bit more picky when it comes to them and i would also have final fanatsy 10 in there. (first final fantasy i played, then had to go back and play the rest)

Anyway, thoughts?

Resident Evil 4 is class especially on the Wii. Wish you could shoot and run at the same time though.

Nothing beats Goldeneye N64. Greatest FPS of all time. Closely followed by anything Mario.

As far as I can remember none of those games ever got a Commodore 64 release they were all released on the Amiga which was Commodores next system after the 64. Think James Pond may have had a sequel released on the 64 though I could be wrong, Settlers II is one of the best resource management games to ever grace any system far better than AoE or other more combat scenario type games that came after.

Monkey Island can have a good case to hold the best adventure game Lucasarts ever did and with their back catalog thats pretty impressive, I can only think of one other game they did that may dispute that claim.

Its not a bad list some names in their that don't often get the time of day in other lists but there is some big games missing from the list also that deserve to be there. What was very nice to see was Planescape Torment almost make the top 10 in the list and considering its the best story driven RPG to ever grace gaming its great to see it getting recognition it never did from sales, I'd have it in my top 10 if not my top 5. Very Happy
