Keeper Rules

- 3 players per year max.
- Can keep players twice (so three years total per guy) before forcible release.
- Players take the value of their draft round in the first redraft.
- Players move up in value by 5 rounds for the second redraft, or as high as they can go otherwise.
- If you end up with stacked picks (multiple players as keepers who count as the same round) they build up backward. e.g. if my keepers are draft picks 3, 4 and 5, I would lose draft picks 3, 4 and 5 in the first redraft and 1, 2 and 3 in the second as each player would be upgraded to an effective 1st rounder by the 5 round rule and therefore stack up.
- Undrafted players are valued at round 10 for the first redraft.
- Traded players initially count as there drafted position with the +5 rule in effect for all subsequent years.
- Years of eligibility are team specific, based on the round value of the player when traded to you. e.g. if a player is drafted in round 12 and is kept by another team for one season they will be valued as a round 7 pick when traded in year two due to the +5 rule.
- Abuse of the above rule by trading away a player over the keeper period only to get them back afterward will invalidate the resetting of two year eligibility.
- Once a player has no eligibility left on a given team they will count as a 1st rounder if traded away to somebody else and retained

disappointed to miss out on the championship play-offs..., but mighty happy to get a 8-6 reg season record in my inaugural season Very Happy

one quick query, is next seasons draft based on regular season W/L record or playoff performance?

Congrats to Bambam for getting every single regular season award and matching the top W/L record from last year whilst blowing the seasons total points out of the water... mind you I still have the single game week record for this league!

The draft order is based on regular season record for everyone NOT in the main playoffs after which the playoff exit round then the W/L record takes precedence, i.e. its like how the real NFL works.
Thus part of the draft order for next year is now finalised as follows...

In terms of keepers, I will try and keep it simple (next year is where it gets fun as players can have run out of time with a given team!). The rules are on the original post, but they are as follows...

Players Kept Last Year (By any team, not just your own)
- Anyone retained with a value of Round 6 or higher will count as a 1st rounder if kept this year due to the +5 rounds rule.
- Anyone retained with a value of Round 7 will count as a 2nd rounder if kept this year.
and so on...

These values apply to the charge that a player should have taken last year, not what may actually have occurred.
e.g. Number-25 kept Stevan Ridley who had a value of Round 6 last year, but actually had to be a Round 7 keeper as RG3 was also kept with a Round 6 keeper. For the purpose of this year, Ridley would count as a Round 6 from last year if kept by any team.

Players Not Kept Last Year
- Players take the value of their draft round.
- Undrafted players are valued at round 10 to promote drafting well over simply picking up a waiver player.

Special Year 2 Quirks
- Any player kept this year for a second time will immediately become valued as a first rounder if traded to any team next year. Watch out for this when trading next year.
This is to stop teams dumping high round keepers when out of the playoff hunt next year because they won't be able to retain them for a third time.

e.g. I kept Russell Wilson who had a value of Round 12 last year. If I kept again this year Russell Wilson would cost me a Round 7 Pick (i.e. 12 - 5).
I would no longer be able to keep Wilson, so I could consider trading Wilson to somebody else on the premise that to me Wilson is useless for another year, but to them he might be good value as a Round 2 Pick (i.e. 7 - 5). He will however automatically cost a 1st rounder in this situation.
The example would work better with a Round 15 keeper who after two years would ordinarily be a Round 5, but there are none left on the same team!

Congratulations Bambam, the season's best team definitely won. You've got some level of performance to live up to next year.

I remained slightly hopeful but my run of highly improbable performances ran out last night. I can't be unhappy really given I've gone from second worst to second best in a year.

Thanks everyone for a great season, it was really competitive all the way through and this is the league I want to win more than any other.

Disappointing that, as ever, it's all over too quickly. When's next years draft?

Definitely going to be tough to live up to this next year, I just wish we had more keepers as there are so many of my team I would like to keep!

Just looking back over the season, I think given a 4-10 record for mikegnfl we can safely say that not drafting a QB is not a winning strategy.

QB wasn't really a problem in the end. I was able to get Rivers then Foles. My biggest problems were at RB with my keeper. Doug Martin went down injured and Lamar Miller was next to useless.

We had the keeper deadline on August 1st last year. We might be a little later this year but i'd like to find out who is around and to encourage people to go and start setting up their keepers if they haven't done so already...

Yep. He was kept last year @ a rd 6. Therefore if kept again this year its 6 - 5 = 1 Smile

For everyone that wasn't kept last year (there is a list by team and position on the original post in a spoiler) its the round they were drafted last year. I have the list on my PC but you can get it from the league history section of the league account on NFL.com

Yeah. Someone kept just two last year. Remember it's only players that have been kept in both years that will move up 5. Everyone drafted last year is just the round they were drafted.

After this point the final league place would be up for grabs. I'd then be looking to set keepers by Sunday 10th August at the latest.

Yeah, I know. I kept them both last time around, but the rest of my draft was pretty horrendous. Rodgers injury didn't help sadly. I might yet go for him again, I'm going to keep Cobb and Peterson anyway.

Right guys.

Can we set keepers by close of play Saturday? I will check the keeper list on Sunday morning, create the new 2014 version of this thread and similar to last year detail the "kept" players by both round and team.

The only teams outstanding are...

The key rule is you must pick at least 1 player. They will cost their drafted round if they were actually drafted last year, a round 10 if they were undrafted and if they were kept last year they will cost five rounds higher than last time.

The list of previous keepers is below. Anyone rated round 6 or lower will cost a 1st rounder, round 7 -> round 2 etc.
