First topic message reminder :

OK, after the roaring success of round one, here is the roundup.

Round 1 threw up a few surprises, not least seanmichaels claiming first place and Galted close behind in second.  Not the section of the league that these two usually frequent.  It was clearly incorrect because To Kill a Mockingbird is obviously superior to Lord of the Rings but there is nowt as queer as folk and the good people of 606v2 have spoken.  They have also spoken enough to garner Niall Quinn's autobiography some votes and some points, despite the p*ss taking throughout.

Adam has made his usual solid start, taking third place which is one below where he will inevitably end up.  Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Union finished with a vote and some points.  Remarkable.

Table after round 1;

seanmichaels (Lord of the Rings): 12
Galted (To Kill a Mockingbird): 10
Adam (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory): 8
Hero (Fantastic Mr Fox): 7
Dolphin Ziggler (Hitchikers Guide to the galaxy): 6
onlytreblewinners (Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde): 5
Azzy (Moby Dick): 5
compelling & rich (Storm of Swords): 4
The Boss (Niall Quinn's autobiography): 4
Jbeadlesbigrighthand (The Old Man and the Sea): 4
The Womble (A Kestral For A Knave): 3
Superflyweight (Trainspotting): 3
Julius (The Big Sleep): 2
Rowley (The Godfather): 2
Union (The Dogs of War): 2
TopHat (Rage): 2
ChequeredJersey (The Kindly Ones): 0
bhb (The Ragged Trousered Philantropists): 0

Question 3:  What is the best film released since the turn of the century? Culture isn't limited to old sh*t so what is the best film released since the 1st January 2000.  This should eliminate some people choosing old films that they haven't actually seen but come near the top of best film lists.  It can be re-releases if you want, animated films, porn, whatever you think deserves a mention.  Fo' shizzle.

Please PM me your answers and pick a couple of choices.  As usual, if you don't get your first pick I will let you know.

Please see the poll for round 2.  Please vote for your top 2 and remember, It is open for the whole forum to vote.

Thanks.

Can I just defend my choice.

Its a great film that I sat in awe of.

90% of the forum will hate it but hopefully there will be a few cultured people who enjoyed it.

The only film better than it is Weekend at Bernies

In Adam's list of the top ten films ever he had True Romance at one and Moulin Rouge at two. True Romance was made in the 90s.

It was called Trees and was made in 2000.

I wish I'd thought of it before submitting my nominations.

All's quiet in the small Vermont town of Hazelville as Memorial Day approaches until a string of mysterious deaths begin plaguing forest ranger Mark Cody. As hikers and campers turn up dead, Cody struggles to figure out what's behind the murders while the Mayor looks to keep the deaths hush-hush, afraid it will affect tourism on the town's biggest money-making day of the year. Botanist Max Cooper arrives and determines them to have been victims of the dreaded "Great White Pine." After the Mayor refuses to close the woods and tragedy ensues on Memorial Day, Cody hires grizzled lumberjack Squint to hunt down and kill the voracious tree leading to Cody, Cooper, and Squint venturing out into the woods in Squint's old beat-up pick-up truck for a final showdown with the monster tree.

Moulin Rouge was all right. I enjoyed it more than Hulk Hogan's sex tape, even though I seem to watch the latter more often.

I actually thought you meant the Christmas trees were in the water.  Genuinely, I did.

Make that 3 that thought the trees were in the water.

And wasnt Robert Shaw playing Quint and not Quince (although that sounds deliciously fruity?)

Christmas trees in water? Come on, that would be silly.

Turns out I got a bit confused, as the Christmas trees actually featured in the sequel, Trees 2 : The Root Of All Evil.

Just looked up Sharknado on Amazon.

I didn't realise that there were so many of these films, there's also Sharktopus, Piranhaconda, Mega Python vs Gatoroid, Dinocroc vs Supergator, the list goes on and on.
