Riccardos replacing Webber at RB obviously, and Kimis returning to Ferrari.

Daniil Kvyat (good luck) will take Riccardos spot at Toro Rosso

Daniil Kvyat is a talented driver but surprised to see him ahead of Felix Da Costa. Quite obviously a financially motivated move by the team & because of the Russian GP in 2014.

Also, Ferrari confirming that Robert Kubica is sadly unlikely to ever return to F1 due to the severity of his injuries & lack of movement. Shame - without doubt would have become a world champion.

Hulkenberg talks/announcement delayed until next week apparently.

As ever it depends on which car he ended up in. IMO Hamilton is the best out there but frustratingly it's vettel who is cleaning up.

Lotus confirm Hulkenberg is no.1 target, surely it's a formality now.

Alot of talk about Magnussen, this guy looks the real deal & is ready for his chance in F1. Perez is under pressure, could move Magnussen alongside Jenson for 2014 & then bring in Alonso for Button for 2015. If Perez stays, can see Magnussen taking the Marussia seat alongside Bianchi & getting a year's experience.

Such a shame about Kubica. IMO easily one of the 2 or 3 most talented drivers in the World today and would have definitely become World Champion at some point, regardless which car he ended up with.

As ever Lotus ability to sign Hulkenburg is dependent on sorting out finance, else Maldonado and his backing will plug that gap

Not necessarily. As I understand it Lotus were planning to sign both. Maldonado will get the drive IF they cannot raise the funds for Hulkenberg's wages but we may not be at that stage yet.

I don't see much hope for Hulk @ Lotus after India with Eric saying it's just down to the owner to finalize Ro-Gro's seat for next year with a contract already in place.

This is what I was referring to:-

So that report says both drivers have finalised deals with Lotus though only one of them will get the drive. Hulkenberg if Lotus get funding but Maldonado if not and he comes with funding and sponsorship money.

Pleased for Maldonado as he is one of the few sponsored drivers who look like they have pace and could do better in a better car. Sad for Hulkenberg though as he deserves better as well. That is if Crofty is pot on.

Hulkenberg has been plagued with bad luck & timing decisions throughout his F1 career, once again looks like he's missed out on the bigger seat. There is still the question though, will going to FI be a significantly worse option than Lotus for 2014. FI have a Mercedes engine, which is reportedly going to be strong & Lotus have lost a lot of technical staff over the past two years. There's still a huge cloud over what is hot & what is not for next year in terms of some seats.

For me, I'm disappointed in Lotus going for Pastor but money talks. Bottas outperforming Maldonado in the second half of the season, especially in qualifying, tells me quite alot.

Massa brings sponsorship from Brazil. Not sure what Bottas brings but I know he's backed by Hakkinen & other financially strong people.

Williams are turning the corner, strong Mercedes engine next year & all new technical staff & Pat Symonds, who although is a cheat, still knows the game.

Lotus or Force India? No contest and that is even apparent amongst the drivers. We see Maldonado and Hulkenberg queueing up for a seat at Lotus and Massa was linked with them as well whilst there is no clambering for a drive at Force India. Sure it has a Mercedes engine but I say so what. Lotus are challenging for second in the constructors championship over 200 points ahead of Force India. If anything this year Force India are getting worse not stronger. If I were a competitive driver looking for a competitive car I'd take the Lotus any day over Force India.

Lotus are looking to Quantum to balance the books, so they can sign Hulkenburg.

Whilst Maldonado is very fast. Grosjean, only improved with a great driver as his team mate.

I can't see Lotus being about to go through with making Maldonado let prone to madness without Kimi.

Grosjean and Hulkenburg would be better partnership than Grosjean/Maldonado.

You can't say for sure that Lotus will remain strong. Engine could play a significant role. They were even discussing it on SKY this morning. Maldonando wanting to leave Williams for Lotus could be a horrible decision. Williams have been focused for over half this season on 2014, have a Mercedes engine deal, Pat Symonds & the Maldonado PDVSA deal was for five years & apparently they've been negotiating a pay off for the remaining money owed, if Maldonado leaves. Same thing with FI, could be very strong, nice engine package & McLaren co-operation on specific parts. It was only the tyre change that killed FI, before that they were comfortably challenging top 6 in races. Big cloud over who's competitive next year, it's easy to just say Lotus over FI or Williams because of recent form but nothing is guaranteed in this sport.

I hear Nico wants a one year deal, if he can't join Lotus.

Nico could do a two year stint at FI & then by the start of 2016, Kimi/Button would of retired & Alonso would have presumably left Ferrari for McLaren & Vettel will be joining Ferrari. Even Hamilton's deal would be up by then at Mercedes.

Hulkenberg would only be 28 or around that age by then.

I feel like we go through this scenario every alternate season with Hulk yet he never ends up in a driver, Personally the only way he gets a top drive is if Mclaren boot Perez and then Alonso joins and a space at Ferrari opens up. Perez + sponsors is much more attractive proposition to Mclaren if can't get Alonso

Not now, in either 2015 or 2016. Form is temporary & I do believe they will be come back extremely strong & the foundations are already being put in place. Honda engine deal, Prodromou coming from RB along with other technical staff. They will be back that's a certainty.

Agree, Hulk needs stability. Go back to FI for two years, by the end he'd be 28 & you would imagine multiple top seats would be available due to retirements from the sport. Also by then the regulations might have changed again on KERS & the disadvantage of Hulk's physique may not be of such an issue.

So as it stands, Lotus have two contracts on the table, one for Pastor & one for Hulk. Decision time.

Oh I am sure McLaren will be back as well but at the moment that would just be far too much of a risk. Plus Alonso wasn't enamoured by his first spell there so I'd say that move is a big no no.

I guess we may get a clue about who will drive for Lotus next year by the end of this weekend.

Team Principal Eric Boullier was insistent yesterday that both Hulkenberg and Maldonado had signed pre-contracts (or such-like). Now we know that it depends on funding in that if Lotus manage to get the funding from Quantum then Hulkenberg will no doubt get the drive. However, as we know from Raikkonen's threat to boycott the race if he doesn't get his wages I'd say it is safe to say that funding has not yet been secured. At the moment I'd say the drive is Maldonado's but don't rule out Hulkenberg yet.

Raikkonen really is forcing the issue now. Basically he wants paying or he boycott's the remaining two races. You can see why he's doing it, obviously reason one for not being paid, but also because he knows Lotus can't afford to put in Davide Valsecchi, who will be rusty like D'Ambrosio was, when he wasn't racing week in week out. Losing Kimi would basically destroy their chances of beating Mercedes in the constructors title.

Raikkonen is on 50k bonus per point. Madness, sometimes these teams don't help themselves. Financial armageddon really.

50k bonus per point? In a F1 world where you now get 25pts for the win? Seems to have been a desperate clause in a desperate contract. Can't blame Kimi for wanting his cake.

Perhaps they just simply underestimated how well they were going to do when negotiating the contract. Remember this is a new team formed from ashes of the Renault team.

But who says they deserve a high five? My guess is the team knew they needed a top driver to get the maximum out of the car which they maybe under-estimated. To ensure they lured Kimi (which was a coup) they added what now appear overly-generous bonus payments which, without funding, they couldn't afford.

Surely then they underestimated Raikkonen, rather than the car? I mean, so much effort goes into constructing a car. That can't be done thinking "right, it's a pretty rubbish car, let's get a superstar to provide funding and offer him a crazy performance bonus we all know he has no chance of getting. Point total increased by 2.5? No problem let's still offer him 50k/point". Given the financial issues they currently have, they would have to think the car is a dud of the highest order for this to be financially viable.

More likely they thought they have a below average car, and thought Kimi wouldn't be bothered to put in serious effort, as is sometimes his want.

They weren't really from the ashes of the Renault team, they were Lotus-Renault for a season after all

No I would say the likely scenario was that they knew what a coup getting Kimi would be so stretched the boundaries (bonus payments) too far by not taking into consideration how competitive the car/driver package was going to be.

Well GSC they are hardly a seasoned team are they?
