That's why these pursuits should be undertaken in videogames and not in real life. Real life has a nasty habit of finding you out to be the hopeless loser you don't think you are.

You have missed the point navy, I said it looks like you need more skill to do snowboarding than squash.  If all I ever do is view the two sports then surely all that matters is my viewing pleasure?  Which I propose is greater watching snowboarding than it is watching squash.

mac, nobody knows how big the human influence on climate change is. Surely, it's there, but nobody knows to which extend.

If Northern Europe is becoming warmer it's clearly an advantage. If Southern Europe is becoming drier it's probably not an advantage. If bangladesh is flooded more frequently, build the dikes they should have anyway.

Under all circumstances it would be insane to use billions and billions to reduce CO2 emissions and green transition when no-one knows the effect of the gazillions spent. In stead (some of) the money should be spent on developing new technologies to generate clean cheap energy (i.e. not wind or solar energy) plus to guard us towards the climate change (i.e. build dikes etc.). That's would be far cheaper - but of course not politically correct.

I'm sorry to say it but this whole climate debate is held hostage by people who want to change the society due to ideologic beliefs, not scientific. 1968 failed, let's try the back door. How come the climate lobby isn't talking about nuclear energy, research in fusion energy or thorium reactors? Clearly beacuse it represents the industrialised society and not some romantic village ideology. Fossile energy as we use it today claim many more lives than nuclear energy ever will and wind/solar energy doesn't have what it takes - yet we still seem so focused and biased on particular solutions.

By spending money the way we are doing now, taxing the industry and citizens and subsidising wind/solar energy, the result in 50 years time will be that the poor will be even poorer, and that the rich bar stewards will remain the rich bar stewards.

Just witnessed a pet peeve of mine- people using the lift to go up (or down) ONE floor. It's super lazy and it takes longer and most of the offenders could use the exercise.

Schumacher seems to have contracted pneumonia, according to the news.

I found this article very interesting. Written by a former F1 doctor, and mostly conjecture (as he says himself) based on the minimal information being released on Michael's condition. But interesting nonetheless.

Either you forgot the link.. or I can't see it.

Given it was a skiing accident, it's odd they have the former F1 doctor writing the article...

My brother suffered a very similar injury less than a year ago in a horse riding accident and was in a coma for 3 weeks. Every thing that is reported to be happening to Schumacher is eerily familiar.

Ours is open. No, closed. No, open. Partially closed. Open. Closed.

We seem to get a couple of days (usually Thursday and Friday) of nice ish weather with a drying breeze raising hopes for the weekend, before Friday night's inevitable deluge and stormy winds manage to shut the thing just in time for the weekend.

She's Britains bedtime female skier by a long way she has come top 20 I think, in her events at the Olympics so she is in among the best female skiers in the world and has been at 4 Olympics. So why can't she get coverage from the national broadcaster and she clearly isn't hopeless. If she is hopeless you probably shouldn't be allowed on the slopes...

Would you be celebrating a team or person who came 20th in a football event, golf event, tennis event, running event, horse race, F1 race etc?

Simply because she's the best we have, doesn't mean she should get any recognition for it and fortunately she doesn't get funded. Coming 20th is barely even journeyman standard.

Being 20th in the games isn't really a failure though is it? You have to train hard just to qualify, and she has overcome some pretty big injuries. And coming from a non skiing nation, not too bad at all I reckon.

I think she has been congratulated but not overly celebrated. I believe she has had many injuries and broke her neck when a kid, the fact she has appeared in 4 Olympics is an achievement. She comes from Twickenham which isn't really a breeding ground for winter sport so to become a journey man decent Olympic skier is an achievement. And anyway she is not a failure.

Anyone that is of a high enough standard in any sport to compete at the highest level is worth celebrating. Did you see the guy from Peru who came last in the cross country and finished in double the winners time, the winner waited and greeted him at the line. It was a good moment and the fact he competed is worth celebrating.

Thing is, she's obviously a decent athlete with good strength, skills and determination, I wonder if she could have actually had success in another sport.

Perhaps one of the more hefty track and field events.

Clearly she barely makes enough to ski though considering she only just made the Olympics by sponsorship and donations from various sources she virtually had to beg from.

Graham Bell is not as much as a bell end as Ed Leigh. There's a real tool
