First topic message reminder :

A couple of new faces today with Moeen Ali and Michael Lumb handed caps.

A feel of a ODI/T20 combo with Bangladesh in mind.

England wanted to try and change their formulaic style of recent times. Let's see how far they are willing to go.

Lumb not looking too bad for a debutant. When Cook returns, could we have a mix of players now vying to join him opening in ODI's.

Noticed it only now, why did Ben Stokes not bowl? Is he carrying any niggles? Or is that since Broad got too many bowlers at his disposal, he ended up not knowing what to do with them?
And I see Mr. Economy went for quite a few as usual......!

The next 10 overs after Wrights demise gave up 5.30 runs per over. Much better.

The pitch has not much life in it, and the West Indies bowling unit does not have Holding, Marshall, Ambrose or even Kemar Roach in it. But the way they didn't make the West Indies miss Jade Dernbach at the end has to be a matter of serious concern!!.

OMG we will end up with 4 wickets in hand and lose.. 30 ahead or something after 40 overs as well.

this is embarrassing.

You just cant lose games in this manor..

Its all well and good being bowled out keeping up with the rate- but this is the worst possible way to lose a game

Oh England.

90-odd runs needed from 80-odd balls, 8 wickets left, and England...lose?

Not the best advert for Giles, but then that's what England have been doing for ODIs for a while with the bat: score patiently, and then try to get a mammoth score off the last 15 overs or so with plenty of wickets left.

This often leads to a collapse.

However, it's even more unforgivable when you have four wickets left and you bat as deep as England do.

Terrible defeat.

T20 form. Which is a bit like selecting test players on how well they did the washing up. If they didnt have stokes Id maybe see the point, but with him Ali |Root and Bopara all offering bowling he has to be selected as a pure batsman. have to say theres something wrong with the balance of the side when two guys capable of delivering 10 overs didnt even get a bowl and there was 5 overs of specialist bowling left on the shelf.
Now to befair it loos like England are trying to be an aggressive team, its very different to the days of Trott at 3. Stacked with all rounders they bat deep ( although broad and Bresnan have never actually been any good in limited overs) and so select high risk batsmen and tell them to go for it.
Its not working though. This is a T20 cricket line up not a 50 over one. Well done for trying something different and all that but Giles needs to get his team doing the basics right first rather than trying the innovative stuff like Root opening the bowling or Stokes at 3. Get a proper batsman in for Wright.
Lumb and Bresnan havent helped the situation by both having decent games, neither is up to it really. Its insane that Bresnan averages 36 with over 80 caps

If I was a captain or a coach. and my team lost a game chasing a total down yet wasn't all out  I would punish them every time and Gravely punish them- They would feel my wraith so hard. Its something I never ever want to see. Its players playing for themselves not the team.. And in this case the chase was set up well as well.

The only time this is different is when NRR comes into play in tournies.. But in this scenario its unforgivable.. I cant say it enough.. Unforgivable..

you really do have to get to a point where you swing at everything. you dont wait to do it in over 50 with 22 runs to win.

That's a hugely disappointing defeat. Especially so as we were well on top for large parts of the game. We just didn't keep it nearly tight enough when bowling at the end (80 odd off the last 5 overs!!) and then let things fall away in the last dozen overs or so of our innings.

Some encouraging individual performances (Lumb, Moeen Ali, Tredwell) but ultimately overshadowed by a very poor team performance.

Eng's lack of experience in limited over format showed.

WI's limited over speacialists stepped it up when it mattered....plundered nearly 120 runs in last 10 overs with the bat....

and then as Eng were entering into the finsihing territory one small spell between Narine and Bravo's crafty "one-day_bowling" deflated them.

Dhoni otherwise useless in tests is a master in winning the ODI moments.

PS* Once again...as I have noted before.....Bopara doesn't make the runs that matter

Kp.. No one beat us but ourselves.

we just threw the game away because we didn't keep the rr up at the right time.. The WI where poor throughout the game.. They were gifted. They just went out 20/20 style last 10. They could have all got out. But they didn't in contrast we only needed two thirds of thee runs last ten with more resource in the tank..

Terrible loss for England.
Didn't they look happy? Didn't they went on drawing lines all over the place? Is this the passion that Matt Prior was talking about?
Tim Bresnan can do a half-decent job in test cricket at a pinch, but he's a less than average ODI player. Ravi Bopara is a paler version of Rohit Sharma, always go missing when the big moments come. How badly they missed Eoin Morgan in that chase?

I would imagine our team want to be home and I can't say I blame them.

This is a pointless ODI series, preceding a pointless T20 series, preceding a pointless T20 World Cup.

Line in the sand please: proper cricket on one side, limited overs twaddle on another. Then they can be entirely different, like Rugby Union and Rugby League.

This is a pointless ODI series, preceding a pointless T20 series, preceding a pointless T20 World Cup.

Line in the sand please: proper cricket on one side, limited overs twaddle on another. Then they can be entirely different, like Rugby Union and Rugby League.

Come off it , Duty : you can't call the t20 WC pointless. This series is just a warm up so I won't get too stressed about it. But half this lot haven't been away that long anyway ...and this is their job ; so that is no excuse. They will need to show better form or will be in line to lose their spots. Form has to count heavily now the rebuilding is under way.

Alfie the problem was individual form was ok by many- we outplayed the WI's

we just flaked out and gifted them a win.

The reports have been that we are nope a team, we are now one.. We all want to put the team first.

Well that is the most disappointing aspect as we didn't play as a team.. we played as individuals and lost.

Bar root ali and Lumb that is..
