Good point but all a bit late, knighthood for Mr Pulis!
Just watched Copa del Ray, good game, glad Real won. But Benzema, fantastic player but I don't think I've ever seen him pass.

Perhaps the best of the lot on Ronaldo was missing.
Di Maria is great to watch, almost an old school winger but do quick and skilful.Having him and Bake and Ronaldo running at you can't be much fun.

sounds amzing Dyno!

However

look mate- I am a palace fan and certain players that need to be protected couldn't retain there place in the PL(players like williams for instance had to be loaned although he is one of our brightest talents ), same thing has happened to ince and gayle- they cant get a game

3 talents with great technical ability that a promoted team may not be able to play due to them needing to do so much more than just float about and try and get forward

So if we win our game in hand out of the bottom 3 on goal difference (if Liverpool beat Norwich tomorrow that is), next up Cardiff at the SOL, genuine 6 pointer.
Best thing about today is hopefully denying Terry and co another title medal. Happy day.

6 words I never thought I'd write:
Pompey stay in the Football League.

Three months of Richie Barker managing more like Ronnie Barker was almost enough to see us gonners, but thank goodness for Sir Andrew Awford - if they'd appointed him a month earlier we'd be in the play-off places by now.

Westwood needed a win, isn't it well over a year since his last one? Even the best need to know they can still do the job.
I think that's 41 career wins for Lee, the funny thing about his career for me is that pre slump he win for fun but didn't do a great deal in the majors, post slump great form in the majors, massively consistent, but overall has found wins a lot harder to come by, at any level really.
Just a shame that nerveless win for fun attitude and great majors game never had a real overlap.

Heard of irony, mysti? I happen to be a Westwood fan, but fact is that a large proportion of his wins have been in mediocre tournaments.

Moyes gone, no big shocker really. Big boots to fill and since day one he has looked a bit tentative, doesn't help when a few of your key players all seem to age at the same time plus RVP goes back to being a sick note.

Moyes is just the fall guy for a club with no contingency plan and sub par players. ManUs league position isnt that far off where they should be with the players they have is it?

Well as has been said many times, those same sub par players won the league at a canter last year. Its one serious drop off in form, and he's had money to spend. Fellani was a truly shocking buy for Man Utd, they needed specialist strength in a few key positions and he cost a fortune and gives none of that, awful, awful bit of business. I like Mata but Moyes is struggling to get the best out of him.
I think Moyes has to take his fair share of the blame personally.

You could go through the top 22 players at Old Trafford and find it difficult to come up with half a dozen names who have a future at Man Utd.
I'd offer :
De Gea
Phil Jones (but he's got to stop being so accident-prone, a set position would help)
Rooney
Van Persie (if he can get fit and motivated again)
Januzaj (but would help if he wasn't so chronically one-footed)
Mata

But the rest are either too old (however fine a player they might have been) or are never going to improve. Some would add Welbeck but don't see much point in a striker that can't strike.
Guys like Kagawa, Evans, Powell, Cleverley, Hernandez, Valencia, even Smalling, could continue as roll-players, but most will be looking for new teams.

Priority 1). for me would be two athletic full-backs (a la Coleman & Shaw) and a dominating centre-half, build from the back.

No point in having blue-chip mid-fielders if the foundation still leaks.

ManU have more fans outside the UK than inside.

Some clubs also hardly have English players on the team.

I think it's a bit of a anachronistic view that you can't be fan of a club without being from that area. Just as being from Manchester you absolutely have to hate the other team. Silly.

IMO you can be from a city and cheer both/all teams just as you can be from abroad and cheer any team you like.

You guys just travel to Asia and you will see hardcore fans of EPL teams. I'm sure they can be just as passionate as the geezer down the pub.

Thats all very well but still no clue why anyone would want to support ManU or any other English team for that matter.

Irish fans spend a billion Euros per anumn supporting English teams. What a waste, none of that goes back to our communities in any way!! Imagine how good football would be in Ireland if that money was better spent on clubs that actually have a vested interest in communities in Ireland? Isnt that a big part of what sport is about?

Its not like the Premier league is a particularly good product anyway, its just agressively well marketed.

I hope Liverpool lose the league just to annoy the Irish fans who try to justify the dole money they spend on supporting Liverpool in the false belief that Liverpool is somehow intrinsically liked to Ireland.

Guns,
It would be healthy for all British Isles football if there was more cash invested in Scotland & Ireland; very telling, in fact, that the lion's share of the big bucks invested anywhere in the British Isles is from overseas.
There's a bubble there, "irrational exuberance" if you like, that will burst in England unless football finds a way to reconnect with its roots.
Hopefully PFC can lead the way with its Community initiative, the Green Bay Packers of English football.

Why would anyone group of people routinely and collectively invest massive portions of their disposable income in something and expect absolutely nothing tangable in return?

Depends what you mean by tangible really. Is pleasure tangible? You could pay a tenner a month to watch PGA golf, where is the tangible return on that?
Some people are obsessed by football, way over the top. But some peoples weeks are ruined if they shoot an 88 rather than a 86 in their weekly friendly golf match.
It's all horses for courses.

THey aren't really fans though are they? Well in the "fanatic/obsessive" definition yes, but they are closer to sycophants, glory hunters and armchair tv viewers than actual supporters. Surely you need at least some link to the club to have a connection, otherwise you might as well stick a pin in a map.

I also find the possessive "us", "we" in relation to the club they support somewhat embarrassing too. I saw someone on another thread saying "We" (meaning Man United) made a terrible error when "we" appointed Moyes".

You didn't have anything to do with it.

Of course they are fans. Who cares why they decided to care, as long as the giving a monkeys remains constant then they are a "fan" as far as I'm concerned.

That doesn't mean I jump to the support of another nation to which I have zero connection. I choose not to support Scotland precisely because I don't have much affinity with them, even though I have the tenuous link of being born there, which is usually a minimum requirement, or "my dad supported them" or my "grandad was born there"

It's not that I don't consider them "supporters", it's more that it seems credulous how they claim to have a love for something they have absolutely no connection with.
Who wakes up and says "I'm going to be a United, Arsenal, LIverpool etc fan today"? bet they wear their kit down the shops too.

Some people come from families with no football connection. It could be the first match they saw and remembered, or that a player they loved watching played for the club.
All these reasons are valid, you can live in Timbuktu and still chat to fellow supporters online. At the end of the day..who cares. If someone gets pleasure from supporting a team then why is that in any way a bad thing?

Reminds me of Mac. Anything that has at one point been successful he's on the bandwagon before you can shout "gloryhunter", desperate for a bit of reflected glory.

I wonder how many Rochdale fans there are in Laos? First game they saw? Or is it more about being a glory hunter?

I'm a Wycombe fan. I really wish I wasn't. Bloody rubbish and likely to be non league again. Little junior Ben is likely to be brought up a stoke fan like it's mother's side! We will tell if it's born feet first..

Anyway thinking of a little trip to the Scottish highlands. Not something to walky as the wife is getting fat, but thinking nairn or Elgin. Any Scots on here been their or gave advise or recommendations??
