CL Last 16

First topic message reminder :

Part Moyes, part the squad SAF left him. Naive in the extreme to think yesterday would've ended up any different with SAF at the helm

I will genuinely be worried for Cavani's and Lavezzi's mental health the next time they have to come to Stamford Bridge.

It would shut those twit former players up who keep saying every few years that Brit teams won't win in Europe.

And then they win.

Allways happens . year in year out nonsense about pl teams. When all the evidence suggests otherwise.

Pl teams play so many big games and are used to it. The league is so strong.

Whatever certain posters say. They always end up eating there words.

The pl will not be out of the top 3 coefficients for donkies and could take back that no.1 spot soon.

Don't write of Liverpool doing a dortmound next year.

Great performance by Chelsea this was night and day to the way they played in Paris. I thought Chelsea was fortunate with the 3-1 scoreline in the last leg and in this leg PSG was fortunate not to concede more. Looks like we will get great semi finals no matter who advances tomorrow. I think Barca and Munich will advance but anything can happen.

Can't remember who I said it to last week. We are a different animal at home.

3-1 definitely flattered PSG. If the couple of mistakes Luiz made for the 2nd goal don't happen then I think the 1st leg would have ended 1-1, we were quite comfortable until that goal. One downfall in the 1st leg was not scoring before half time. Dominated the last 15 minutes and PSG went in to the break with that mental victory.

Verrati looks like the type to get upset and off his game very easily. I don't think he'd be able to cope in a stronger league. Alex looked half the player he was at Chelsea, looks terrified of any kind of pace. The only players that scared me going forward were Lavezzi and Pastore.

I think the transition from dominating their easier domestic league & always attacking to having to suddenly defend & not play to their usual attacking style just confused them last night. Thought PSG were terrible. I've said for a while, how on earth does Verrati starts ahead of Cabaye? You can tell in the Ligue 1, Verrati has so much time on the ball, no pressure & he's allowed to dictate play. Try that in the Champions League & see what happens.

Great to see Chelsea in the semi-final, anything can happen but they will desperately need Ramires & Hazard back in that line-up. I'm guessing Azpilicueta to right back & Ashley Cole coming in at left back because of Ivanovic's suspension.

Utd stand a good chance this evening as Fellani isn't playing.

Can't see why Chelsea would be interested in Cavani at all. Do not see what all the fuss is about...would have back Suarez to bury the chance he had late on but not that lad.

Still, if Roman wants to spend £50+ million on another dud then all power to his elbow

Totally agree with you about cabaye.

He is wasted at PSG- like certain players are wasted in the prem just because they are english.

He should have started. He made Newcastle a top 7 team . Its that simple and tbh I think if he played from the off Chelsea may not have gone through

I think its harsh on both Verrati and Ligue 1 in general tbh. He was outstanding in the Nou Camp last season and is by all accounts a fine prospect. Ligue 1 isnt as much of a step down from the PL at present as some think.

Cabayes exceptional when he feels like it.

And hindsight is 20:20. I'm sure Blanc would've played Cabaye had he known beforehand Verrati wasnt going to have a good game.

I think what happened was they just thought they had won already- and didnt think tactically enough. You dont do that v chelsea ever. Chelsea's midfield was all over them and wernt even close to being at there best.

Re: CL Last 16

It was a poor game from both sides really, Chelsea looked a little bit lost attacking, PSG retreated into their shell too early, there were plenty of times they could have broke at pace but slowed it down to hold onto the 3-1 aggregate score, one PSG goal would have likely killed the tie so the tactics were odd.

Chelsea just seemed to lack that final touch going forward, gave the ball away far too much when it mattered.

Couldn't see either Chelsea of PSG getting through the semis, which should be ridiculously strong, not a nice tie to have: Real Madrid, Bayern or Barcelona? (Most likely) Would Chelsea pick Barca then?

Chelsea have been out of shape for a few weeks though crimes. They are getting slightly better- that 3-1 loss came of the back of some poor results domestically

get hazard and shurlee playing and the rest up for it and i think they could beat anyone if there form returns.

I love how people saying Real are the big threat. I'm telling you now, I don't care if they have Ronaldo, Bale & Benzema......you don't win Champions Leagues with a central defending partnership of Pepe 'the play-acting clown, whose atrocious' & Sergio 'I get red-card's every other game' Ramos & only gets nominated for FIFA team of the years because I play for Madrid.

I'm not saying Chelsea will win it but Chelsea are the best defensive side left. The hardest thing to do in football is score a goal.

Dante and Boateng are hardly world beaters either. Nor Terry and Cahill tbh. Its more a question of mentality. The other teams are prepared to play an expansive game.

I'm not too fussed who we get in the semis. We'll have to beat two of them to win the thing in any case, so... I still think Bayern are the best team I've seen this year, by some distance, so I guess I would like to avoid them (if they get through).

Barca I don't think have been that good this year from what I've seen. Had City not been ridiculously over-cautious in the first leg I think they could have done something there, while Athletico will start tonight as marginal favourites IMVHO. Real also only just squeaked past a Dortmund team who aren't all that strong this year, so again, while I don't think Chelsea would be favourites, we wouldn't be massive underdogs either.
