Welcome to Season 7 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game.  Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to.  If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.

Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players.  If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (SJE) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.

Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 20 players.  Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1992.

Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:

  • Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.
  • Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the National League Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on its own merits before being accepted or rejected.  No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
  • Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.

    Open Window

Open transfer window, teams have unlimited bids provided they have the financial resources to cover them.  Teams may only bid for one player at a time.

The window will open from the 9th of June but only to those sides that finish 8th and below at first. They will have a week to make one signing each before the window is open to all.

Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation

Compensation will be paid as follows

£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other

All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the National League Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players.  Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be European Rugby Champions Cup, European Rugby Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches.  These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Failure to meet these deadlines is punishable by the addition of three match points to the oppositions final score, unless both sides fail to do so. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 15:00 hours on Sunday. Managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved).  An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.

Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result.  To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.

In addition, each team must have the following:-

For domestic competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.

For European competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 6 of those must be in your starting XV.

At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.

All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).

Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 1 league point deduction.

If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.

Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.

Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.

Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.

£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc upto a maximum of £5m per fine.

BDP with 3 poor lineout throws.

He never seems to have a long spell as first choice hook.

BdP line out was shocking for the most part, really stopped SA momentum. Pollard's distribution wasn't great and he fluffed an easy kick, SA really could have won that one. AB's very rusty at the breakdown, be happy to take the win I imagine.

Reports that Steffan Arimitage has applied for a French passport.

Good on him. Whilst I agree with not picking players playing abroad, he deserves another shot at the top level.

On a side note talking about English 7s, both Robshaw and Fraser had differently very good games in teams playing different quality of rugby yesterday

Pretty accurate ratings

Pollard was simply excellent and definitely was the best 10 on the day

Vermaulen was man of the match. Him and Coetzee went well together r

For me they are welcome to him. Don't see him as a top top player. Don't like the law which will be closed and see it as being a bad thing for French rugby.

But if it's allowed then good on him.

Have done similar things in the past.

Burns kicking game is top draw, really impressing.

Slade playing at 13, he seems to have the full package, possible England 12?

Slade is a good prospect. Potential 12 in the making hopefully. Its
A bit like England footballs constant search for a decent creative centre midfielder the elusive 12 who can pass and create.

Only in England would Steven Gerrard, Nicky butt, Carlton Cole etc have as many caps same
With brad Barrit, noon etc

Just seen the glos highlights.

We got a penalty try from scrum dominance which is a novel thing after last year.

Cips tore us to pieces 1st half but a good come back. 2
Bad injuries also.

Going to take us time to gel.

Nonu been hit and miss this year for AB's when he has been good been superb.

Crotty was superb for one half and will come in for next game if fit. Gave them distribution and worked well with smith.

SBW if on form will slot in somewhere.
Played most AB games at wing I think. Would work well with smith but needs to show some form.

Takes a special talent to switch between codes and SBW is mentally talented.

Dreadful boxer though !!

Meant in World Cup when they won
He played
Most games on wing.

England rugbys search for a decent 12
Mirrors England footballs search for a decent midfield

Had dross players like Butt, Gerrard, Carlton Palmer (not cole sorry)

England rugby  midfield had erinle , noon, Barrit etc

Loads of players
Who in other counties
Would not have got caps

Midfield is an issue for football and rugby

SBW never been 1st choice 12 for NZ. Was wing or sub in World Cup.

Shows NZ depth as he is a cracking player. Would walk most NH int teams.

Can we not sign him under the law that the French are poaching Steffan under !!

How many games did he play for
NZ as a starter ?

He scored 3 tries as replacement which is a record in the WC. Henry said in his biog he saw him as a impact sub who could change the face of any game.

Imagine he has more sub appearances
Than starts.

Southern Hemisphere really get benches. Truly is a 22 man game. Bench so important.

It's why I shudder when England bring on players like Dickson Goode or Barrit.

Bench is to add to the game or change.

Bench players should be selected to reflect the opposition . England often have the same bench regardless
Of the opposition which is missing a trick

Rugby needs X factor players like him and Folau.

Hope burgess can do the same.

Forgot nonu  went to Japan after World Cup so he got starts at centre.

I think SBW is world class but also think nonu is.

Such options to have.

Henry trusted nonu due to Auckland links and did not like the hype that went with SBW despite rating him highly as a player.

Worth a read of the henry biog. was 99p on kindle a few months ago and really insightful.
I don't like Henry as met him a few times when he was in Wales and he was unpleasant to fans but he is one sharp rugby mind

As far as the last meeting went, he's currently losing money and wants the club to be sustainable in the next 2 years. I can't see us getting close to the salary cap any time soon.

Furno can't have come cheap. I know he was talking to a few clubs, a number of whom turned him down as he wanted too much money. He was decent for you today, but does look as if he might attract a few cards.

Yeah, your loosehead was appalling. He got one penalty where he'd gone to the ground and tried to drag us down and Halani's bind slipped as a result and we got pinged for binding on the arm. Other than that he got munched all game.

Hammersley looked decent for you, but Cato is barely Premiership standard and provided little threat. Why is Tuilagi not starting?

He's not fit.

I'd prefer Cato to both your wings tbh, I thought he played ok today. I don't rate Short or Lewington at all. Your back 3 and 13 were pretty poor.

Add a physical 13 and a couple of decent wingers and you'd be a mid table side.

Fenby was far from poor, he had a good game at full back, which surprised most of us London Irish fans if I'm honest, as he wasn't great when we saw him there pre season.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this, but for me Lewington and Short are considerably better players than Cato, who is a shadow of the player he was when he broke through at Saracens.

13, we know Mulchrone is limited. Really good defensively, but doesn't provide much of an attacking threat. When Eoin Griffin is fit we are all hoping that he comes in and claims that jersey.

Cato improved dramatically throughout last season, I was a big critic of his but he's a decent AP winger now.

He's not our first choice with Sonoti and Tuilagi. Lewington and Short are really poor imo, they'll need improving.

Fenby played ok today, I agree.

Great game for Wasps today - first time we've beaten Saints in 6 years or so! Have a new defensive coach in and he's made a huge difference for us - Mullen, Simpson and Gaskell are looking great this year for us.

We were losing money badly thenlast few years.  Then new owners have a few quid but not silly money and are setting about making the club self financing.  They are ploughing loads into the academy and trying to make what we have sustainable, which for me is the right way for us to go rather than just chucking money at senior players to get them into the club.

What have people made of the new Sarries tight head - Longbottom I think? Saying he is eq and we're looking at him as an option now.

Quins need to find their form quick, they needed to sign a top class player in their front five to keep up with all the other teams as other squads have got better and better.

Varndell looked blooming good yesterday, defence has really improved a lot.
