Why is it...
...that when there is the slightest bit of handbags a thread gets locked?
Just curious that's all...I notice there has only been 1 post on the golf forum in the 16 hours since the 'Farewell' thread was brought to a halt.

Still, at least it proved Dewsweeper right, I suppose. Of course, if he hadn't posted such a pointless, negative thread it wouldn't have happened.

It's probably because it breaches the UN Convention on Human Rights to let the village idiots fight or something like that.

Don't think thats really accurate Bluey, there's often handbags but thats only about the third thread I've seen locked in about 2 years. (on the golf board anyway!)BlueCoverman wrote:...that when there is the slightest bit of handbags a thread gets locked?

So it's farewell to the farewell thread. As usual Super is the controversial character with his outspoken views on life, especially the Irish. He really seems to rattle a few cages. I am Irish myself and to be honest what he says doesn't annoy me that much. I think it says a lot more about him than the Irish in general. I would like to think that most people would see it as it is and not be influenced by his opinions. We are all grown ups here and should not take the opinions of one poster so seriously.

For the sake of consistency and proof I don't simply turn up to "abuse" the Irish I've got plenty opinions to express about fat people, religious people, the England football team, Scottishness and why I don't like it, etc etc
Given how defensive some of those categories can be, you get very little push back from them.

im oirish too- doesnt bother me in the slightest. whats bugs me most is that the faux offended guys very rarely have anything to contribute to a golf discussion- they only get involved when theres some offence to be taken.

I think he might have been being somewhat sarcastic Lorus.
If I could influence anyone, I'd be trying to influence women to sleep with me, not get my fellow posters to poke fun at the Irish.

Prince Dracula was a top contributor and no longer posts here. He was Irish too, how would you feel if he left due to Hiberniphobic content? Banter is all well and good, but when it gets to the point that good people are leaving the site perhaps its time to make a collective effort to tone it down a bit?

Come on Inco, What I've done is no worse than you posting the picture of Atkinson dressed as a Scotsman. Yourself and Diggers often have a go at the Scots but I don't see anyone running away and crying about it. Anyway, when was the last time I actually said anything remotely "offensive" about the Irish anyway?
Lets' not get another thread locked just in case someone gets offended about overuse of the letter "e" or something similarly trivial or disconnected.

Prince Drac was indeed a top poster here - and I'm pretty sure his departure from here was nothing to do with Hiberniphobia (is that really a word?) - IMO he left because the place was dying

Re: Why is it...
The real Prince Dracula was a sadist racist who impaled the Turks for fun. Taking name after him offends me in retrospect. I'm glad he left. (Or maybe some Irish admin banned him?)
In fact "incontinentia" was married to Biggus Dickus, Roman despot in Jerusalem - and we all know how they felt about the jews and JC. By closer consideration I'm also offended now. Admin please?

What an utterly pointless comment?!
So, you don't know he left because Hibernatophobia, just what if?? Laughable.
What if he left because of 'blue phobia', maybe we should lobby for a change of site colours. Or maybe because of 'Englishophibia', maybe we should all post in a different language. And so on......

To be perfectly honest I find a fairly blatant attempt by one poster to have another poster chucked or punished in some way far more offensive than anything I've seen on here before.

No it is nothing like that. Ridiculous comment. Its more to do with xenaphobic abuse. By your logic you should just soak up whatever abuse is thrown your way and never challenge it.

What about a rule about people looking to be offended?
If you're going to be offended by something Guns, at least know how to spell what it is you are claiming to be offended by.
You said it yourself:
So that wouldn't be you then.
As far as I can tell, no one has been discriminated against or bullied.

You routinely post derogatory comments about other posters' culture or religion etc. Just because you seem to be given free reign to do this doesnt mean it isnt against forum rules. It clearly is.

It is not irrelevant at all. Whether they do or not the onus is absolutely on moderators to sanction such comments but there is no reason why I cannot highlight it.
If it was against forum rules to do so then why is there a report a post option?

Re: Why is it...
Perhaps then as previously requested you ought to provide specific examples and explain exactly why you deem it to be discriminatory or bullying.
If it was up to us to determine what fits in or not then the Admins/Mods would never get anything done.
You'd have all sorts complaining about all and sundry.
Is a few words said in jest really all you have to be worried about today?
A "report" button is to report posts which actually cross the line.

That's a bit sad really. Implied threat of a battering because someone might not like a few jokey comments.
Perhaps we'd have a lot less violence in the world if people didn't take everything so seriously.
Certainly I have nothing but utter contempt for the person who uses violence to prove their point, it's truly for the apes of society.

There is no implication of a battering at all. You have interpreted it that way but that certainly wasnt the intention. I would sooner buy Super a pint. All Im saying is that people tend to post a lot differently when they post under their real name and Im guessing SR would too.

Forums allow people to do that as there isn't the threat of some ape thinking he's a hero by giving someone a kicking. That's by and large a good thing, I utterly despise bully's as I'm sure do you.

Guns, If all you can do is claim I've offended you, but you can't explain why you're offended, (offence is such a laughable stance, especially on a forum) then I or anyone else is hardly going to take notice of your supposed "offence" are they?
Last time you mentioned being offended by the term "Oirish". Really? Come on. Your sig say you are 34, not 4.

I never claimed you offended me and I never commented on the above quote. I did point out that you have posted derogatory comments against certain cultures and religions. We both know that to be true and to be against forum rules.
