Congratz To Rory for reclaiming the #1 spot. Very well done by the Ulsterman.  Sergio gets to #3, his highest ranking since he broke up with Greg Norman's daughter.

I'm in.

I'd never hit a tree again. My handicap'd be 24 or so and I'd have a chance of a top 3 round my current course in a stableford.

Hang on, how wide are the fairways either side...

Depending on Wyndham results, Marc Warren could climb as high as #67 should he go on to win.

Watney can get to #58.
Fritsch can get to ~125
Slocum can climb inside the top 200
Freddie J can get to #54

Warren is a long way from the RC Team, can't see any opportunity for him to win automatic qualification. But he's playing better than Donald & Poulter right now, so you never know.

After today he'll be 23rd/24th on the lists, and too far away from automatic qualification.
Imo he needs a few more good results to be considered for a pick.

After today's win, Warren is going to be about 22nd in both standings.  There is no possible way he can qualify on merit either list, even he wins in Prague and Italy.  (and he is not playing in Prague).

I guess Gallacher will play the next few weeks on the ET trying to qualify?

What about Donaldson? On his webpage he's not scheduled to play before Crans?

Both Gallacher and Donaldson in the Czech Masters and Italian Open fields.

Both Luke and GMac are guaranteed the first two playoff events and a top 10 in either event will be about 10 OWGR points.  Guessing that they will be OWGR Rating of 70.

I can't imagine either Czech Masters or Italian Open being much more than the Euro Minimum Rating of 24.

You say that about McDool, but I think there's a very real doubt that he'll play with his missus due to give birth any day.

Sure he'll be a "Choice" but I would imagine his automatic spot is up for grabs - Donald and his son the obvious beneficiaries, but you never know. Sure McGinley would prefer Mrs McD keeps things tight for a few days while hubby gets a "W".

Barclays Rated at 74 despite missing six players in top 30 (Woods, DJ, Stricker, Doobie, Bjorn, Dufner, Jimenez)

Rory is safe at #1, Stenson and Sergio can get to #2, Rose, Furyk, Bubba can get to #3 and Kuch and Day can get to #4.

Special SuperRealist Tiger Woods falling down the rankings.  Lots of players can pass him this week down to #20 Charl Schwartzel.  Jordan and Rickie probably only have to finish in top 10 to pass him.  Kaymer in the top 5.

Czech Masters at the EuroTour Min of 24.

Any reports why Jimenez has given up qualifying on merit?

Some Projections besides the ones listed above.

Should they win:

Donaldson can get as high #25.

=====

Mahan  can get as high #19
Hoffmann can get as high #61
Na can get as high #15
BVP can get as high #47
Chapell can get as high #41
Tringale  can get as high #45
Todd  can get as high #19

===========

Fowler has to finish solo 18th (or equivalent) to pass Woods.  Fowler is the only player that has a reasonable to chance to pass Woods today.  As a longshot: GMac needs a two way T2nd or better to pass Woods.

"Na can get as high as #15 should" he win - let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Jamieson climbed 68 places in Round 4 - would think that must be close to a record - how many Pros blow as hot and cold as the Scott?

Rob Bolton tweeted that Kevin Na has earned the most gross OWGR points this season that is in contention for a Tom Watson's Captains pick.

[nerd alert]
I told him that Watson and the rest of the US Ryder Cup team is on a low Sodium diet so Na is not under any consideration.

True, but I think it's a poor reflection on the likes of Westwood, Donald, Poulter etc.

I think they need to be the three picks.....I think if Europe goes down the route of picking Gallacher....The American are being awfully underrated this year.

Europe's choice of nine names for RC qualification are exactly the nine highest Europeans on tomorrows OWGR list. And that is not for the first time in RC history. Perhaps they'd better apply the OWGR all together for their RC qualifications. Might even consider selecting all twelve from that list. Just like the "Internationals" used to practice for their Presidents Cup selections.

... this would imply picking three out of five from: Donald, Jimenez, Poulter, Westwood and Gallacher. Only a win in Italy could get Francesco in this mix. The others are to far down on the OWGR.

There is a not so subtle difference between the Int'l Prez Cup Qualification and the World Pt qualification for the Euro RC team

The Prez Cup Top 10 Int'l selections are the 10 highest ranked players as of the cutoff date.

The Euro RC standings are gross points earned for a 52 week period from ~September to ~September.

An international player can make the team based on performance from the prior year (kind of like Ernie Els did last year) which would not qualify him for the Euro Team.

A current example would be Tiger Woods.  He is ranked 11th in the OWGR but his OWGR gross points from the last 52 week would be around 30th in the Euro World Points list.  His current ranking is almost solely due to his early 2013 season.

Sobel is reporting that Westwood won't be seeking to play in Italy next week. He might play in Europe in weeks to come if he's picked for Gleneagles - don't bother son, you've chosen the path most travelled and lost your way.

Quite true kwini.

Euro's i.e the ET has been searching for years for the best scheme. Four from this, five from that. Eurotour ranking first, OWGR rankings last. Or the other way around.
Always trying to combine the three objectives:
1) Getting as good a team as possible
2) Binding RC prone players to the ET as much as can be done without jeopardising objective 1
3) Incorporation of some kind of guarantee through captain's (read: the RC committee, read ET management) choices. To be able to correct the balance between British players and nonBrits ("continentals") in the team. Most of the time through sentences like. "We need experienced players" or "looking for in form players". Words like "Stallwarts" tend to be used a lot in that process.
[So one of these days watch a trio coming up like: Poults, Luke and Westy. SkyChannel commentators have already been pushing for those for weeks now]

... but the outcome never differs that much from the rather simple Pres.Cup selection scheme of the International team which is starting from the top counting down to nine (or even twelve if you like) and voila there you have the perfect RC Euro team. Quite a big credit to the OWGR as a ranking system one must concede.

I wouldn't pick Gallacher, seems a bit of a no mark journeyman to me with no real form or upper gear that he can shift into.

His game is too unremarkable and standard for me.

So it seems all eyes are on Gallacher this week in Italy. The only player still able to bring about any change in the automatic RC qualifictions. A win or a T2 with two should get him past McDowell. The question is can he push himself to do a 'Donaldson'? I guess it won't work but if he delivers he not only would have silenced a lot of his doubters. The result of such an outcome would very much ease up on McGinley's realistic wildcard permutations. With no Molinari's holding a trophy in Turin choosing the trio of McDowell, Poulter and Westwood for playing spots and Jimenez in the buggy and the teamroom will not receive a lot of flak. Leaving poor Donald as the odd man out.

Does Gallcher being from Scotland have a say on potential picks? I think it shouldn't but will it?

Some projections:

Rory is safe at #1
Stenson can overtake Scott for #2 with a win.
Furyk, Day, Kuchar, Bubba can get to #3

===========

Spieth needs to tread water to overtake Tiger.  (about 20th)

Kaymer needs a top 4 (or 5 finish).

OWGR Wk 31 RC Standings for US and Euro - Page 4 Empty Re: OWGR Wk 31 RC Standings for US and Euro

With five of America's best apparently not playing any more tournament golf until at least December, there will be some freefalling in the Top 30 over the next three months:
Mickelson from 10th
Woods from 13th
Dustin from 17th
Stricker from 24th
Dufner from 29th
all as at Sept 2nd.

Mickelson is 10th, not 19th.

Projected year end averages and rankings** if these players do not play the rest of the year.

PMick 4.47 ---10th to 19th
Dustin 3.79 ---17th to 24th
Woods 2.93 ---13th to 36th*
Dufner 2.74 ---29th to 39th
Strick 2.64 ---24th to 41st *

Woods and Stricker fall faster because their divisor is not decreasing, while PMick, DJ and Duf are each losing tournaments from their divisor.

*Presumably, both Woods and Stricker will be playing the World Challenge in early December and every player in WC is guaranteed OWGR points.  I did not

If the Stars align against Stricker, he could fall out of the Top 50 and lose an exemption to the Masters.

** Rankings projection are based on 2013 Year End OWGR Rankings.

Hi GPB,
Yup, that was a typo, How'd I do dat?
I'll edit, Thanks.

PS: Bradley's self-imposed dq won't help his ranking either . . . . . He'll be slipping but guess he might play late in the autumn.

Keegan WDs?  Pfffft, I got him in play in Yahoo Fantasy.   Crying or Very sad

Should have been watching Golf Channel Pregame, instead of College Football pregame.

Rory is safe at #1 and could have a 3+ pt lead on Adam should he win.

Win by Sergio could get him to #2.  But Adam would have to finish 59th or worse.

Stenson can get #2 with a win, if Adam finishes outside the top 21.

Bubba can get as high as #3 should he win.
Palmer can to #22.
Horschel to #21

Spieth will pass Tiger with a solo 17th (or equivalent) or better.
Matsuyama needs to win to pass Tiger this week.

I will try to start a new thread tomorrow after the BMW.
