Lucha Underground results 7/1
Dario Cueto kicked off tonight’s broadcast with the still un-awarded Lucha Underground Championship. The rules for tonight’s Aztec Warfare match are similar to the Royal Rumble, with guys (and girls) coming in at 90-second intervals, but with eliminations decided by pinfall and submission only.
AZTEC WARFARE
LUCHA UNDERGROUND CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Fenix and Johnny Mundo will start the match.
Cisco is the third entrant. Mundo hits him with the End of the World (Starship Pain) for the pinfall elimination. King Cuerno is out fourth, but Fenix flies off the ropes with a crazy dive to meet him. Son of Havoc and Pimpinela are five and six.
As the ring starts to fill up things turn into a more standard brawl. Prince Puma is out at seven and there’s a “mystery woman” sitting at ringside. I believe she’s actually Angela Fong. Ivelisse Valez is out at eight as Son of Havoc knocks off Pimpinela by pinfall. Six people left.
Drago rushes the ring at nine and hits a massive DDT on Fenix, then another on Johnny Mundo but only gets a two-count. King Cuerno eliminates Valez as we approach the 14-minute mark.
Bael comes out as the 10th man. Things are getting a bit crowded in the ring, so Prince Puma eliminates Son of Havoc for the first potentially “big” elimination of the match at the 15-minute mark.
Cortez Castro comes out as #11 so we’ve got most of The Crew out there in Castro, Cisco and Bael.
Ricky Mandel came out at #12. Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo came together against the heel faction to eliminate Bael and Cortez Castro just as Big Ryck came out at #13. Good timing.
Ryck is making short work of just about everyone. He knocks off Ricky Mandel around the 22-minute mark, and helps Cuerno eliminate Drago. Mundo pinned Cuerno off the celebration and the Crew is down to just the big man.
Pentagon Jr. is #14. Super Fly gets a big pop at #15 as the crowd is expecting some big moves. He doesn’t disappoint. Chavo Guerrero is #16 and he brought a steel chair to the ring with him. Vampire tells him to “do the right thing”, and he blasts Super Fly and Pentagon with it, eliminating them.
Mascarita Sagrada Jr. is out at #17 as we’re getting near the end here with entrants. He took out Chavo and did a dive to the outside, caught with a Fenix dropkick, who has been in this thing for over a half hour. Sexy Star is out at #18.
Sagrada and Big Ryck face off, with Ryck eliminating him with a clothesline. El Mariachi Loco comes out at #19, so we know that the 20th and final entrant is Mil Muertes.
Muertes hits the Flatliner on Mariachi Loco to eliminate him. Chavo Guerrero and Fenix work together to eliminate Big Ryck, who is not happy about having to leave. Chavo turns on Fenix with a chair shot to the head, eliminating him after 38 minutes.
With everyone else on the outside, Chavo Guerrero attacks Sexy Star with the steel chair. Vampire calls him a bastard, but Striker says we know he has no honor in Lucha Underground. He puts the chair on her head and climsb to the top rope, but Blue Demon Jr. (not in this match) runs out and makes the save. He throws Chavo off the ropes, Sexy levels him with the chair and picks up the pin.
Had some issue with El Rey cutting out, but came back to Mil Muertes getting pinned. Sexy was eliminated at some point in there as well.
We are down to Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo. Mundo has been in this match for 53 minutes, or as Vampiro says, “since he learned to walk”. Mundo drops Puma with an electric chair and puts him in a single leg crab. A ropebreak separates them as a “this is awesome” chant breaks out. They fight up to the top rope and Puma hits the old Sin Cara moonsault side slam for a very close two-count. He stomps away in the corner and they fight up the ropes yet again. This time Mundo takes control with a reverese Frankensteiner. He climbs back up and hits End of the World! 1…2…Puma kicks out!
Both guys slowly get up, and for the third time fight up the ropes. Puma knocks Mundo down and hits the ridiculous 630 Splash. 1…2…3.
Winner and NEW CHAMPION: Prince Puma
Mundo shook Puma’s hand after the match, and the show ends with Konnan coming down and celebrating with the new Lucha Underground World Heavyweight Champion, Prince Puma.

Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
I'm really looking forward to catching this. I thought the final 2 episodes of last year with the ladder match and then the 10 man elimination match were both excellent.

Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
I have seen the latest episode to find out who is the new world champion and man what a show that was?
This is so much better the WWE and TNA put together, Who needs flashy lights and terrible costumes this is by far the best wrestling out there and I am a very big fan.

In fairness, some of the costumes are pretty bad
This and NXT are my main wrestling fixes right now

Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
I finally caught up with it. I still think that the 10-way match was their high point, but it was one of the best Battle Royales that I've seen.

Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
I think that Johnny Mundo/ Morrison is doing the best work of his career - he looks like a genuine star.
Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
Agreed. Is it not always interesting how a wrestler can get an overhaul and so quickly become a new character that flies (or fails)? His work with Pince Puma really has been exceptional from the first episode and shows no signs of weakening, or of me getting bored of another way to engage Puma and Mundo in the ring.
What El Rey are IMO doing very well with Lucha Underground is booking every wrestler strongly. So, even the diminutive Mascarita Sagrada is allowed to hit moves, he's not the joke that WWE would make him. Hell, they've made Chavo into a relatively interesting heel, Chavo interesting!?! I'm not sure that Vampiro is the best announcer, but he and Striker are making every wrestler out to be a big deal, whether it is El Mariachi Loco or Fenix or Pentagon Jr.

Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
Even the jobbers are given credibility such as Son Of Havoc.
The spot a few weeks ago where Johhny jumped from the office roof to the ring was fantastic. Havent watched it for two weeks but will catch up soon.

Just caught up with the very first episode of this and it's phenomenal if a bit ott.
Going to try and catch up on the rest of the eps because from what I read it's worth the watch.
Agreed with the comments above Morrison. Always liked him in the E and it looks like they're really letting him flourish here

Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
Been reading rumours that JR will be joining Lucha Underground. On his own podcasts, JR has been critical of elements of Lucha Underground (mixed gender matches and match pacing). I do believe that LU could benefit from improved commentary, let's just see if JR is the man to provide that.

Re: Lucha Underground results 7/1
- 14 /jan episode:
- Not entirely sure that they had to turn around the champ to have a match the week after winning the title. I think they'd have been better building up the title and Puma, maybe having a #1 contender tournament. Having said that, a good match. Interesting debut from Cage, the spot where he caught the guy from the turnbuckle I thought was really cool. Not sure we needed the 15ft splash in the other match, but Holy Poopie
