The v2 interview - Al Snow and Grado

Tomorrow night see TNA Impact return to the UK for another 3 nights of wrestling action, taking in Glasgow, Manchester and London.

The tour kicks off in Glasgow on the 26th January and features all of the major wrestlers on the TNA roster, including Kurt Angle, Bobby Roode and current TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Bobby Lashley.

However, there is one match that has drawn the attention of the Glasgow audience more than any other – Al Snow vs Grado.

Over the last year, Grado has grown from a guilty pleasure to  mainstay of Scottish television. Appearing in the BBC documentary about Glasgows Insane Wrestling Championship and now a regular on BBC Scotlands soap River City, Grado has carved out a fan base that most British wrestlers can only dream of.

In the last few months, Grado has taken part in TNAs British Boot Camp II, a reality show that took the best of the British scene and put them through the challenges of what it takes to be a TNA wrestler. And as always, Grado was the one who stood out but not for the right reasons.

During the try outs, Grado turned up late for his 2nd audition, incurring the wrath of judge Al Snow. The show captured Grados attempts to win over the respect of Al throughout the series, to very little success.

After being eliminated from the competition, Grado finally stood up to the former WWF European, Hardcore and Tag champion, issuing a challenge to Al.

Which leads us back to Glasgow.

Tomorrow night, Grado gets to live his dream of wrestling at Glasgows premier venue.

I was fortunate to catch up with Al and Grado ahead of their match on Thursday. The audio can be found below but lets just say that the animosity from Snow hasn’t diminished one bit!

Thanks to both Grado and Al Snow for taking the time to talk to v2.

The work style from Al felt a bit odd. But kudos for getting the Hell in the Kennel question into the interview. Difficult subject to interview or did you think the Al Snow animosity worked?

Firstly, he was incredibly tanned! He looked brown in the flesh!

He was nice before hand but I actually felt a bit of real tension when I asked the Hell in a Kennel question. The only time he cracked a smile was when I stumped him at the end about whether Grado would have given him a second chance at ICW.

The person who interviewed them before, asked Al to put her in a wrestling move for a photograph which he basically said "no. thats not going to happen".

Its always much harder to interview people in kayfabe but it worked okay, compared to some of the other ones we did in kayfabe (Brian Stiffler and Bravehart spring to mind).

Als blazer was a cracker though!

To be honest, it did sound like Al had spent the whole day being interviewed by people saying "wrestling, its not real, is it". I think you should get Grado back for a single interview, he sounds like he'd be fun to chat with.

He said he would come back on the show in a few weeks time as well. Havent told the other 4 yet though! I guess they know now!

Cheers.  Ask him what if he'd ever do a Hell in a Hutch match.  It is very much like Hell in a Cell, but on the outside of the ring are various rabbits, such as:
- The rabbit from the Rosebuds
- The Duracell bunny... with drum
- A cut out of Bugs Bunny

The match ends via pin, submission or if someone is eaten by the Killer Rabbit from Monty Python. On, and David Soul can be guest referree.
