LA Fights fails to reach crowd funding goal

Post by Adam D on Mon 02 Feb 2015, 3:36 pm

Some of you might recall we interviewed Nigel McGuiness with regards to his desire to create a new type of wrestling show called LA Fights.

He was trying to raise $370,000 through crowdfunding to film the 6 episode series and the date ended yesterday. Unfortunately, he didnt reach his target.

Below is the press release.

It was a good interview. He seemed a nice enough guy, but I didn't really get how the concept was going to work in practice.

In theory a cross between the high-spots of wrestling and the real action of MMA sounds great. In reality, I think there is a very good reason why you don't see pro wrestling spots in MMA cos its just not realistic and that breaks the flow. And of course, if you did try to do them kayfabe you'd lose.

But he sounded a cool guy. I loved his advice of if you don't like what the current players are doing stop giving them money, because while you do there is no impetus for them to change. So good luck to him on his next step in this.

Do you remember him in ROH or TNA, P?

I only ever saw him as Desmond Wolfe and I thought he was brilliant in that character.

No. I've never ever seen RoH. Don't blast me for that, if I knew how to get it I'd be watching it. And I'm more off than on with TNA.

Ive never seen ROH either so no worries!

He had some great matches in TNA and was also in a team with Magnus called London Brawling who were really good.

His matches with Angle were excellent and he was over with the crowd.

It was as tough as that. No wonder I've never done it Very Happy Can I call myself a real wrestling fan now, or do I have to watch it. I'm a bit dubious of the watching bit as JR keeps telling me that lighting is poor Rolling Eyes

On last weeks Ross Report, JR admitted that he doesnt watch Lucha underground and didnt even know who their champion was (Prince Puma).

There is your finger on the pulse, v2 forum.

He did know a lot about saving car insurance and fantasy football though, as he kept on reminding us through his excruciating adverts.

I love how you added Prince Puma, just in case there was doubt you didn't know too Very Happy

That bit was awesome two guys talking about LU then neither knowing the champ, or being able to use Wiki to cover that up.

I think LU is great. I haven't watched the last few weeks (since cage debuted) but I do read the spoilers still.

It was embarassing when they were fumbling over who it was. I listened to it but didn't find it that great. I enjoyed the Russo one the best so far. The ending went on for about 5 minutes too with Jim Ross not knowing how to end the show. I would have marked out if he had said "cue the jingles"

Really disappointing that following all the negative buzz around the WWE on the internet that only 441 people were prepared to back this.

Ha! I just figured DB not winning the Rumble had led you all to cancel your podcast in a protest as effective as the cancel the network hashtag one.

Well if it makes you feel better, we are doing one tonight!

And I have an interview with a major name tomorrow. My only clue to his identity is that he featured in my favourite gimmick match of all time (and its not Al Snow again!)

If you are interviewing a dog from the Hell in a Kennel match, then that is already just the best interview ever.

"So, Fido. Hell in a Kennel... how was that match?"

A further clue - it was a double gimmick match.(In that two things made it unique at the time)

It says very little for me that all I can think of is Bra & Panties. I may be turning into Jerry Lawler.

Cool. FWIW I've a question. That you can answer here, there or choose to ignore.

I know you don't really rate matches, but if you will just humour me. From the Impact's that we've had so far, does the team think there have been any 3 star plus matches? And is the wrestling of sufficient quality for the show to keep drawing.

As a background to that question. I've watched 2 of the 3 Impact episodes so far. And I'd say only the Hardy's / Wolves tag match in the first episode has been of that quality.
