NXT Results 25/3

NXT Women’s Championship Match
Alexa Bliss vs. Sasha Banks (c)

Lots of quick cover attempts to start things off. Banks steps on Alexa’s hand and slaps her in the face. She hits the double knees spot in the corner and locks in a straight jacket submission. Bliss fights back with a headscissors out of the corner and sends the champ to the floor. They tease another count-out spot (a reversal of last week), but Bliss throws Sasha back into the ring. She goes to the top rope but is taken down with a single-arm throw and taps to the Bank Statement.

Winner: Sasha Banks

-Backstage interview with Kevin Owens. He tells Finn Balor to “bring the demon” to tonight’s title match.

-Emma tells Bayley “I told you so” about being too nice to everyone, and her personality costing her the title. Bayley says the fans got her where she is, and Emma slaps her across the face and walks out.

-Tyler Breeze cuts a backstage promo about wanting to become the NXT Champion. Hideo Itami shows up and says they’re 1-1 in their rivalry, and challenges him to a three-falls match on next week’s show.

-Another “coming soon” promo for Dana Brooke

-Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy confront Carmella backstage and apologize for their behavior. They give her a gift, which turns out to be a diamond bracelet. Enzo and Big Cass get upset and claim the jewelry is fake.

NXT Championship Match
Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens (c)

No face paint tonight.

The bell rings and Owens takes a walk, playing some mind games. The champ takes control with shoulder blocks and rest holds and yells “where’s the demon now?”, so Balor dropkicks him in the face.

After an ad break, Balor rolls through a sunset flip with a dropkick. Kevin fights back with knife-edge chops and they fight on the apron, with Balor getting dropped over the top rope. The assault continues with right hands, kicks and an elbow drop. He throws on a rest hold and after a few minutes we cut to another commercial.

We come back with Owens stomping away at the challenger. Another chin lock until the crowd tries to build momentum, and Owens throws him to the floor and continues the beatdown. He sets up for the apron powerbomb but gets flipped on his back. Balor throws right hands but is caught with a crucifix sideslam, followed by a senton splash for two.

The next segment is yet again all Kevin Owens. Lots of rest holds. At one point Owens does an Irish whip into the corner so hard you hear something in the ring shift.

After a third break (we’re going on 20 minutes here), Balor begins to fight back. He breaks out of a headlock and hits a dropkick. The Slingblade connects followed by a double under-hook slam for two. The champ bails from the ring and wraps Balor’s knee around the ring post before going to work on it. They roll back into the ring and Owens locks in a half grab after beating down on the knee. Finn barely makes it to the bottom rope. He counters a powerbomb with a double foot stomp; both men down.

Challenger is up first but he gets his legs kicked out. They fight to the top turnbuckle and Balor hits an enzuigiri. He tries for a big superplex, but Owens hooks the leg and drops him with a top rope Fishermen’s buster! Holy **** chant. The champ hits a cannonball splash in the corner and continues to work over the now-obviously-injured knee. He wraps the knee around the bottom rope and does another cannonball. Owens comes up empty on a third attempt and Balor follows with a running dropkick. He heads up for the double foot stomp, connecting, but his knee is too messed up to make the cover. When he finally gets up, Owens hits him with a pop-up powerbomb for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Well that almost definitely means that Balor is moving up. I don't really see any feuds left for him in NXT any more, I think he'll be on the full roster from now on.

Do you think he'll win the four-way to get in the ATGMBR at Mania, or is that gonna be Neville? Maybe Balor will tag with a returning Sheamus?

If Balor left his top position in New Japan to come to WWE.  WWE raced him through developmental.  And after that he ends up tagging with Sheamus I'll give up all hope.

The status of Balor is he's 35.  That doesn't mean that he's not got some good matches and years left in him.  But it does mean that as WWE went to all that trouble to get him they must have had some plan, which has to be put in place fairly rapidly.  Because they had to at least think he has the potential to be wrestling the 2nd spot on a PPV if not in the main event.  So, it will be interesting to see what they do with him from here.

I had my doubts about not putting this match on a Takeover, but it was a hell of a match. Just goes to show what two guys at the top of their game can do. They could have a rematch of Owens vs the Demon, but they did so much in that match I dont know what more they could add to it to make it better.

I think you could be right Prom, looks like Balor is on the up, and Im warming to the idea of the Demon entrance in the Battle Royal. Hell, at this point winning it would be huge for him. I know its not exactly the most prestigious thing in WWE, but thats one way to make a statement. The demon winning the Battle Royal would instantly make Balor a big deal.

I dont know where Owens goes from here, but Im happy to stick around to find out. I think there'll be another title match with someone before Zayn comes back. Regarding Zayn - I cant help but think he's being booked exactly how John Cena should have been booked after being destroyed by Lesnar. Take time off to get you're head back in the game, not come out the very next night and act as if nothing has happened.

I said it last week and I'll say it again. I love Sasha Banks. So very much. Mrs Samo isnt very keen on my infatuation but screw her, Banks is on the list.

Tyler Breeze vs Hideo Itami in 2/3 falls? Yes yes all of that in my face. Cant wait.

Sasha, Becky and Charlotte are all IMO very talented. So much so that I hope they don't go up to Raw. They go there and we have 2 minute matches vs the Bellas. I get the idea that the silicon sells, its not something I agree from the standpoint of what entertains me, but I'm not sure if WWE is ready to "give women a chance" on Raw because they are selling the Divas.

I dont know where Owens goes from here, but Im happy to stick around to find out.
Hopefully he has a speedy and full recovery from his surgery. I'd put him in a program with Samoa Joe then. And after that. He can take down a few pretenders also. Then when he looks completely unbeatable I think Uhaa Nation walks into the ring.

A match vs Samoa Joe would be good, both guys have a similar build, but Joes more technical to Owens brawler style.

Yes.  I'm thinking that Owens can learn from Joe.  And IMO that is why Joe is in NXT to teach (and if they travel to draw).

In the meantime, I'd have Zayn take a belt in WWE and then when Owens comes up there can be a rinse and repeat for the Raw crowd to enjoy.

BTW: Balor's drop kick. One of the best I've seen in WWE since Billy Gunn.

I don't agree with the consensus that Owens and Balor are done. I thought it was a brilliant piece of booking. Owens looked strong by going over clean, and continues to look ruthless, by exploiting the slightiest bit of weakness. He reminds me of Steve Austin circa late 96.

Balor looked like a valiant babyface, and the knee injury gives him an out for this defeat. I can see Finn earning a rematch at some point.

The women's match was decent. There were a couple of rough spots, but this was Alexa Bliss' best match.  Sasha Banks is always entertainin, and continues to prove to be one of the best workers in the WWE.

The show contained some good build to future matches. It's great to see Emma develop a character, and she and Bayley should deliver the goods.

Whilst Breeze and Hideo have worked a lot of matches recently, the 2 out of 3 falls match should be good, and a fitting way to blow off the feud.

Cass and Enzo were great in their segment with Team Dubstep. Loved Cass' Donnie Brasco line.
