Despite the best efforts of some of the best golfers in the world it seemed like a gentle stroll in the azaleas for wire to wire winner Jordan Spieth.  Five of the Fantasy Leaguers picked the winner and enjoyed the spoils but typically they didn't have many picks backing him up.

Fifteen picks finished in the top 20 of the leaderboard.  1GrumpyGolfer and RedRage were working with a full squad and both had four picks score well.  1GrumpyGolfer's lowest scoring finisher was 12th and two of those scoring picks birdied the last for 66s which was the low round of the day.  It's easy to see why 1GrumpyGolfer is being fitted with Spieth for a green jacket.  RedRage didn't quite have the same quality of picks and wasn't able to close the gap.  Raycastleunited fresh off his sabbatical had three scoring picks including Spieth.  TheCleaver, CJB, McLaren, Hibbz, and SirBenson were the others that had three scoring picks but their picks raged from the winner to a 19th placed finisher.

Sand and Boyhyde were also working with the full set but had varying quality and between them shared two top ten finishers.  Fantasy League rookie AlciG, Beninho, and Davie all had two picks including Spieth and they round out the top ten on the leaderboard.  I'm Never Wrong, Kouchi, and LadyPutt also had two picks score points but they towards the lower end of the leaderboard.  Augusta might not suit Kwinigolfer's eye, ball flight, or perhaps he couldn't activate his glutes; in a surprising twist Kwinigolfer struggled in not just the Fantasy League but Sportform's competition too.

Barragan, BlueCoverman, and SetupDetermines each had one pick score and for the reason they find themselves towards the bottom of the leaderboard.  However, both SetupDetermines and Barragan had high finishes in Sportform's competition; maybe an OWGR versus Sagarin ranking anomaly?  Another surprise was the fate of EmmDee57; all six picks to play with but no one in the top 20!

Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama shot 66 to share the low round of the day while Jason Day, Jonas Blixt, and Charl Schwartzel shot 75 to tie for the worst score of the day.  All of the players, except Schwartzel, were picks.  Thongchai Jaidee finished last on +9

It’s that time of year again as we head to Georgia for the Masters. The unofficial start to the season is upon us as the world almost steps back in time by crossing the threshold and onto Magnolia Lane. In this genteel place the golfing vocabulary changes, where there is no rough or spectators but different cuts and patrons. Pristine manicured fairways and flowerbeds set the scene for the tournament which really only gets serious on the back nine on Sunday. This is where players will negotiate the swirling winds of Amen corner and listen to the roars generated by those on a charge and hopefully make their own to don a green jacket on the 18th green.

There are 98 entrants to this year’s tournament as there were no last minute additions despite Johnson Wagner's 72nd hole heroics in Houston. There is a very top heavy field; 49 of the top 50 are at Augusta. The only one to miss out is the number 50 player Marc Warren who made the top 50 a week too late. In the field are 20 first timers, 7 amateurs, and 19 past champions.

With the limited field we are back to two picks plus reserve.  No additional cut bonus points will be awarded in this instance, the only cut bonus to apply is for all six picks through to the third round.

There are seven amateurs in the field, idenitfied by (Am) after their name, so we will have a separate pick for Low Amateur. The Low Amateur pick does not have to be one of your Cat C picks unless you so desire.  30 points will be on offer for correctly picking the Low Amateur; if no amateurs make the cut then no points will be awarded.

________________________________________________________________________

Everyone please notify others of changes in field before tournament starts and invalid or incomplete picks from participants.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Pick 1 amateur identified by (Am) after their name

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligble for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores.  If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.  Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Jordan Spieth marches on shooting 66 to share the Low Round of the day with fellow pick Ryan Moore and non pick Kevin Na. AlciG, Beninho, Davie, Raycastleunited, and TheCleaver are riding Spieth hard. Beninho also had Ryan Moore, Hibbz was also the beneficiary of Moore's good round.

The cut line fell at +2 and four picks made it on the number. For 1GrumpyGolfer, EmmDee57, and Sand it meant they kept the full set for the weekend. RedRage and Boyhyde also achieved that feat but they made it more comfortably than the other three. Eleven Fantasy Leaguers have five picks left with some missing the full set by the smallest of margins. Six Fantasy Leaguers have four picks left. Incontinentia's spoof picks for Super_Realist worked out a lot better than his own. For the first time in Fantasy League history a player is out of the event as none of Inco's real picks made it through to the weekend, three missed by a shot. Inco doesn't finish empty handed as Ben Crenshaw scored the worst round for the second day running.

There was some good scoring and some bad scoring but for Fantasy Leaguers the scoring was very good. 17 of the 55 players shot 70 or lower to be part of the Top 10 Low round scores. 13 of them were picks! 3 players, Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, and Justin Rose shot 67 to tie for Low Round of the day; Mickelson and Poulter were picks.

From the 13 scoring players 41 bonuses were awarded. 1GrumpyGolfer had five of his six picks score points, one of them was Mickelson. CJB, RedRage, and Sand also had Mickelson and two other scoring picks. McLaren and Raycastleunited also had three scoring picks but they didn't have a Low Round scorer. AlciG, EmmDee57, Hibbz, LadyPutt, Pedro, and TheCleaver each had two picks score points; LadyPutt had one of the Low Round scorers. Everyone else, except Barragan, had one pick score points. Barragan was one of two Fantasy Leaguers not to score points, the other was Incontinentia but he didn't have a dog in the race. Incontinentia can take some comfort in knowing that Super's Pet Hates had two picks who scored.

At the other end of the leaderboard was Thongchai Jaidee; he had an 80 for the worst round of the day.

Very creditable finish AlciG, plenty of veteran players would swap with you in a heartbeat.

"struggled"?
Understatement of the year. Hit the ball beautifully but the putter let me down time and time again.
Good for San Antonio, not so clever on the World stage.

Well done Grumps, great work. We go again . . . . . .

Credit to kwini though for having Spieth amongst his final 3 in his "process of elimination" thread.
