Australia in West Indies 2015 Empty Australia in West Indies 2015

Post by msp83 Tue 02 Jun 2015, 5:08 pm

Australia are to play a couple of tests in the West Indies before the summer Ashes. Australia would be finalizing the makeup of the side and get going after the WC win, they will be playing their first test in almost 5 months. Fawad Ahmed, the legspinner is a chance to make his debut in the first test if the track could turn significantly.
As for the West Indies, they fought hard in the England series, and would be hoping to more of the same against Australia. It is the start of a new era for them, as Shiv Narine Chanderpaul's test career is all but over as he was axed for poor form in the last 2 series he played. The only regular test player from their IPL contingent, Chris Gayle is smashing it all over England and so the opening combination remains a problem and now they'll have to find someone who can step in for Chanderpaul.
Hope the West Indies would fight and make the series interesting enough.

the pitches in WI are relatively docile...always giving some chance to the home team...that has some good spinners.

Aus however will win 1-0 or 2-0.....
Chris Rogers is out defaults them to Shaun marsh opening ...which is a long term solution.

Is Ryan Harris bacvk ?

Australian batting being reorganized a bit ; will be interesting to see how West Indies go after their encouraging last match against England.
Fancy the Australia pace attack will be a big much for them ; but we will see how the pitches turn out...

I was quite impressed with the West Indies compared to say a year or two earlier. Ambrose is bringing a bit of steel into that side and I am sure Australia won't have it all their own way.

An hour in and Aus seamers have not looked good. Brathwaite out playing a defensive prod to a ball at least a foot wide of off stump.

The constant chirping from Haddin has re-inforced for me just how much i admire thway NZ play their cricket.

Or quite simply they relapsed to bad old habits ie sloppy shots which they did have V England getting away with a lot of them. It happens.

Australia in West Indies 2015 Empty Re: Australia in West Indies 2015

Post by msp83 Thu 04 Jun 2015, 6:19 am

So a 13 wicket day, and I would say Australia are slightly ahead. The West Indies batting was their usual awful self, getting bowled out for 148. Shai Hope, a middle order bat converted into an opener, top scored with 36. Jason Holder made 21 and that was next best. Hazelwood and Johnson taking 3 each and acouple of wickets to Mitchell Starc.
Australia in response were 85-3 at stumps. They lost the big wickets of Warner and Clarke and the makeshift opener Shaun Marsh. But Steven Smith was still there and we all know he loves situations like these. With him was Adam Voges, making his test debut at the young age of 35. Wicket each for Taylor, Holder and Bishoo.
WI would be hoping they can get Smith early and then dismiss the Australians not too far away from their score. All that the Australians would need is one partnership, and they have Starc slated to come in at 9.......

Lol. Windies fighting back hard. If they keep the lead less than 50, they have a fighting chance. Especially as they should have the best of batting conditions, if they get Aus out quick enough

They certainly do. But the West Indies have to think of rolling through them from here. Any hesitance because of Aus' long batting line up will cost them dearly.

A day on from discussing how deferred the dream of finding a decent leg spinner in test cricket is, Bishoo is weaving a masterclass. To be fair, Asutralia have probably taken over England for the mantelpiece of not being able to play spin for love or money.

Hang on, we aren't handing it over so easily! Didn't you see us get bowled out by Kane Williamson the other day? Please retract your comments!

Well we shall see if Australia can get a lead of 100 after the first innings like England managed. From what we have seen so far I am closer to the truth than you or perhaps Australia aren't as good as being painted?

After taking his 6th and Australia's 8th wicket, Devendra Bishoo had to go off the field for some treatment on his finger. He's now back on, Australia meanwhile moving on to 196-8. Voges on debut, going strong at one end.......

The problem for the West Indies is that with the older ball, only Bishoo looked like taking a wicket. The others haven't bowled too badly, but they haven't asked enough questions of the batsmen.

I haven't seen Bishoo's spell but the mere thoughts are fascinating.....the dismissal of Haddin must have been a ripper.

I dunno how the pitch is playing....if it is spinning and in Lyon and Smith they have one good and one better than a part timer

a 90 to 100 run lead in a low scoring game might be hugely decisive

and i juts saw a ball from gabriel popp off a good length.....and another one dug in short that did not rise and hit him on the helmet

I have a suspicion that this pitch is bordering on  under-prepared and every run is worth 2 runs.
and batting on D2 is already much more difficult than D1

selection of likes of Rogers, Voges, Harris in the Aussie squad shows that they don't live in what's a ludicrous notion " building the team for the future"

they pick whoever is in good form for a series....and age is a a mere number

Voges looks a very correct batsman....low back lift,  gripping bat unusually high......plays bat very close to the body and very straight batted...generally a front foot player, and head right on top of the ball when defending...or driving

it's his technique that has stood out on this pitch...it's rare to see someone play so correctly and almost entirely on the front foot. He even pulls offf the front foot...merely transferring the weight back.
technically correct and straight guys like Dravid , Pujara, Trott, Kallis, Amla are all genberally back foot players.
his height and "standing tall" allows him to play otherwise back foot shots off the front foot ..merely transferring the weight back

Think the West Indies moment in the game has come and gone. Won't be surprised if the Australians win by an innings from here on....... Voges playing a fabulous hand on a demanding pitch, and the last wicket partnership is building. First Ramdin didn't use Taylor with the new ball, when he came on he did produce a chance that was promptly dropped by Shai Hope. This could be a long partnership here. Hazelwood took a blow early on, but has stuck it out there, its been a fine supporting act from him so far.......

Finally all out for 318.  Didn't quite make century last wicket partnership, but match turned decisively in Aussies favour - and they won't mind having bowl at the (possibly demoralised) Windies for a few overs this evening.

What a debut innings from Voges! I am with msp on the innings defeat, or very close here.

Well bowled Bishoo though, the ball that got Haddin is one for the archives, the perfect dismissal!

Denesh Ramdin thinks Marlon Samuels is the West Indies version of Murali with the ball!.
Anyways he's batting with greater sense than what is on usual display as the West Indies are trying to weather the early loss of Darren Bravo.
They are 97-3.......
