Bulls 29 - 27 Bath

Bath look to have gone with a RWC pack, and against a physical SA side this was a risk. Think they run the risk of losing a fair few of the battles up front, especially in the back 5 of the scrum. This would usually mean a defeat, but the quality they've put out in the backs means they can still compete and score off very little ball. Think the key would be Pollard and Kriel, if they perform then they'll match the Bath backs and probably sneak a win. The impact off the Bath bench is negligible, and think Bulls will hold on

Bulls 21 - 21 Bath

Young Bath pack which would require some of their more experienced heads to compete in AP. Bath's real strength is in their outside backs who are physical, quick and creative and will cause anyone problems. Not sure the half backs the best pair to out them on the attack. Can't separate the sides.

Bulls 23-25 Bath

Not too much in the packs with Bath edging the front row but Bull having more in the engine room and backrow. Half backs pretty close but mostly Bath past that. Bath just enough to take a good away win with Bulls back line and goal kicking not the best.

Bulls 19 - 22 Bath 
Second row might be a slight issue for Bath, but again the Bulls have been pretty poor and can't see them getting a platform from their forwards and Ewels is a future England player. It comes down to the backlines and in terms of attack Bath are up there as one of the best around, Williams gives them a top class fullback, haven't seen anything of Debrenczeni so a little hard to rate and could impact on predictions.

Bulls 18-17 Bath
See a scrum edge for the Bulls but else where hard to separate the forwards. Halfbacks one a piece but Bulls shade due to more form to go on. De Allende in top form will cause problems for anyone. Bath back three great on the front foot but defensively has issues. Bath youngsters off the bench will struggle late on. 

Bulls 24-28 Bath
Step up for Bath in front row, feel Bulls edge 2nd row but Bath eq options there are very good for the league. Think Bath will edge the back row battle. Half backs 1 a piece and the same in the centres too. It's out wide that Bath can cause the trouble so long as they get quick ball their back line will be very dangerous on the hard ground. Strong Bulls bench helps against a good but fairly inexperienced Bath bench which will be a great bench if all the players progress as per over the next couple of seasons.

Bulls 20-19 Bath Rugby
Ewels and Matthews as a lock pairing doesn't work for me and gives the Bulls an advantage up front.  Better attacking back line for Bath, but stronger bench for the Bulls.  At home, the Bulls have enough to win this one despite having a pretty average back line overall.

Wasps 23 - 28 Waratahs

Wasps pack really has improved, and is a good match for the Waratahs forwards. Robshaw has got the better of Hooper before, and the rest of the pack will match them physically. Behind the scrum is where the side is still lacking though for me, the halfbacks are a bit too flimsy for this level, and Russell is definitely not a 12 IMO. Up against quality like Foley, AAC and Folau this will cost them, and its only the pack which keeps this from being a bigger defeat. CJ - I'd start Robshaw, Skivington and Pennell as definites. Outside of that, Fearns needs to prove himself in France, I'd probably stick with Lowe as the 4th starter in the league

Wasps 23 - 26 Waratahs

Not sure at all about the Wasps centres. Small and will have real issues defensively for me. Quite like the pack and it should be ok at set piece and in the loose. Don't feel the back line has the right balance. Not enough go forward. 

Wasps 21-24 Waratahs

Waratahs better engine room but Wasps better backrow with Robshaw/Vito better than their opposition. Past the pack it's mostly Tah's with Wasps centre combo not working too well imo. Tah's too strong here and will the win.Fearns, Robshaw, Pennell, Hodgson, Lowe good options.

Wasps 21 - 23 Waratahs 
A few selections seem a bit of an experiment for Wasps, especially Finn Russell at no12 who I haven't seen play there before and Catt needs more starts for Bath in the AP. Robshaw always seems to get the upper hand on Hooper in internationals, but more threat from the Tahs backline as they have some powerful strike runners. Fearns has the slight issue of joining Lyon so might not get seen as much. Probably worth trying to use any funds to bring in some EQ like Guy Thompson at Wasps as there are still some good cheap players out there. 

Wasps 20-30 Tahs
See a big Tahs pack winning the collisions and getting on the front foot more often. Wasps compete well at the breakdown though. Is it suppose to be Spencer at 9???? Tahs stronger at halfback with international standard players. Really not sure on Russel at 12 think he will struggle defensively against big runners. Feel Tahs can get on the front foot and get Folau/Naiyaravoro in space.

Wasps 25-30 Waratahs
Tahs could take the front row with the 2nd row slightly closer. Hooper vs Robshaw would be interesting but feel that Tahs could win this battle. Half backs again to Tahs but Hodgson will be a steady head for Wasps and will be a good player to have this season. Like the look of the Wasps centres but see that Tahs have too much international experience. Again in the back 3 I just feel that Wasps have come up against a very strong team. A better bench for Wasps which will make this slightly closer. Cj, I'd look at Robshaw, Skivington possibly Hodgson but not sure and Pennell if he hits form in the Premiership.

Wasps 19-28 Waratahs
Forward battle belongs to the Tahs, and witht the backline they have they could cut loose.  Wasps have some good defensive players in Skivs and Robshaw who will keep them in it, but I can't see where they will trouble the Tahs enough to win the game.

Saints 37 - 35 Chiefs

Saints should have the edge up front at scrum time, but I've never seen Johnson play hooker so tough for me to rate him at the set piece. Back 5s of the scrum very even round the park, plenty of power and breakdown ability on both sides. One apiece at halfback, with Cruden just ahead of Ford and I'm a big fan of SHC. Outside backs have threats on each side, can see plenty of tries in this one. Its just the bench that seals this one for Saints, as you'd expect our strongest sides to have quality benches

Saints 25 - 23 Chiefs

I'm not having Johnson as  hooker and mark it down massively. Saints have a decent side out and have enough to beat a good Chiefs side. Very physical pack and exciting backs marshalled by two talented young half backs.

Northampton 25-28 Chiefs

Chiefs take the front row with Johnson a strange call at hooker causing all sorts of set piece issues. Chiefs better engine room and backrow very close in a good contest. Chiefs step up at 9 with cline not quite at this level, great 10 battle though with Crudens form evening things up. Chiefs better in midfield but Saints back 3 strong bar Bowe. Chiefs strong throughout take away win.

Saints 30-27 Chiefs
Johnson at hook causes a lot of problems at the set piece for Saints. Great battle between the packs around the park. Halfbacks one a piece and hard to separate. Chiefs midfield edge as a unit but Saints a step up in the back three. Benches are different class though and this is what pips it for Saints. 

Saints 34-33 Chiefs
Close in the front row as not sure how Johnson is going to do at hooker (expect well but need more games to prove it). Good eq 2nd row for Saints but Chiefs strong here. Back row even with Cane causing problems for Burger but Saints have the stronger carriers. Half backs very close think Chiefs just take it at 9 but not alot in it. Good centre battle, currently I think SBW would cause more problems with a running game looking likely with these sides. Saints stronger in the back 3 though and a very strong bench takes this game for them but it's close in a very high scoring game.

Saints 30-27 Chiefs
Superb Saints back line, but slightly experimental in the pack, with Johnson at hooker a potential issue,  and du Plessis at 6 also maybe a bit hit and miss.  I'm not sure that a well drilled Chiefs pack is the right one to go up against like that.   Draw.

Worcester 27 - 31 Sharks

Really good game. Both packs have a real hard edge about them, and can see this being a really heavy hitting battle up front. The extra quality at the breakdown of Coetzee and BDP is likely the difference between the packs for me. Behind the scrum, Lambie is the standout halfback IMO, and the likes of NMS and Naholo add a real threat to the Worcester side. They'll keep this close, but think Sharks have enough to hold on, despite the stronger Worcester bench

Worcester 22 - 22 Sharks

Goof Worcester side. Physical pack with a breakdown presence. Not having Goneva as a 12 but ok at 13 with the right balance around him.Half backs not as strong as the outside backs who have a good physical presence as well as creativity.

Worcester 18-23 Sharks

Sharks a touch better throughout 1-10 and can get control. I like Wuss back line but not enough in pack or halfbacks to get foothold.

Worcester Warriors 37 - 29 Sharks
Cracking backline again from the homeside the back three combination is great, but probably start Tait as he's got a new contract at Tigers and no great difference in what Dulin offers. Thomas should have a big season and a definite starter, Wray might struggle a bit for gametime at Sarries this season with emergence of Itoje and Conlon signing. Goneva doesn't have the hands for a no12 but can deliver at no13 as a ball carrier.

Worcester 22-26 Sharks
Worc struggle massively here at the scrum and think they may have problems at the breakdown as well. 11-15 Steyn is the only one who competes against Worc but the Sharks halfbacks have more about them. 

Worcester 22-25 Sharks

Leicester 30 - 25 Brumbies

Leicester have the pack to starve Brumbies of possession, and think if they play that game tactically then they'll have real success against most sides. Plenty of set piece prowess, and the breakdown will always be strong with Smith and Lobbe around. A lot of big men in both backlines, will be a real physical battle. Think Brumbies have a bit more guile about them, even though i'm not a fan of Lealifano as a 10. Good game, Leicester strong enough

Brumbies 22 - 21 Leicester

Leicester's pack strong with the exception of Mafi who isn't a brilliant lock. Like the backrow and the front row. Backs reliant on form as there are hit and miss players at 9, 10 and 12 which isn't ideal.

Brumbies 17-24 Tigers

Tigers looking strong and take the pack at a canter. Just prefer Tigers halfbacks/centres but Brumbies back 3 a bit stronger. Good win for Tigers.

Brumbies 27 - 25 Tigers
In bad conditions the Tigers pack will take most teams, especially when they can bring on guys like Louw from the bench. Great lineout and scrum, can see them being very effective with rolling mauls and the breakdown. So they do have a great platform for their backs, just not sure whether they will always take their chances that they will create with their pack, a bit more creativity or a WC finisher outwide and they could get some big wins. 

Brumbies 18-19 Leicester 
Packs wise very hard to separate the sides here and both compete well around the park and at the set piece. Not an awful lot between the halfbacks and back threes. Bastareaud a good focal point for Tigers but Brumbies midfield has that little bit more. Quality of the Tigers bench snatches this late on.

Brumbies 27-25 Tigers
Front row close, 2nd row a slight edge for Tigers. Think it'll be a close back row battle but Brumbies could get a small advantage. Half backs goe to Brumbies at the moment and slightly in the centres too but it is close and if 12T could get Bastareaud into space it''ll be a good battle. Bit more about Tigers out wide. A strong Tigers bench will make this game closer for them.

Brumbies 20-20 Leicester

Quins 27 - 33 Hurricanes
Quins haven't gone with their full strength side, and up against the best side in Super Rugby last year they won't find it easy. Not sure on the balance in the Quins back row, and McGrath is going to be up against it at this level. The Hurricanes backline is just ridiculous, and that centre combo is probably one of the few that could challenge Quins full strength combo, with Burrell lacking a bit of form they'll do well. A full strength Quins side has enough to beat Canes, but here I have to go with a Canes win on the road

Harlequins 20-26 Hurricanes
Hurricanes take front 5 with a few form issues for Quins. Similar story in back row with Canes a bit better. Canes much stronger in back line bar Kearney who's better than opposite number. Tough ask for 2nd string Quins side against strong Canes outfit.

Quins 36 - 33 Hurricanes
Canes have the more threatening backline and some great finishers all over, but the Quins pack is much better with great combinations throughout and can starve the away team of quality ball. Joseph, Cordero and Kearney can offer some great attacking threats as well. Haven't seen much of McGrath at no9. Bench options strong for late impact to see them just hold off the Hurricanes. 

Quins 26-30 Canes
Not a lot between the sides at the set piece and breakdown but Canes pack has more carrying about it. Canes halfbacks a step up as is the midfield and can see them causing Quins a lot of problems. Quins wings with a lot of potential about them.

Quins 26-30 Canes
Can't really call it across the whole pack to be honest and I think that neither team is really going to give much of an edge to be honest. Looking at half back I think that Canes gain an advantage here and they do have a wc centre pairing which the Quins centres will be able to hold off for a bit but don't think it'll be neough today. Outwide Quins have some form in Cordero but Canes are incredibly strong here and think this'll get them the win. Quins bench will make it closer with the front row impact and Hooper to come on but it won't be enough.

Quins 27-29 Canes

Thought playing AJ at hooker was going to get some comments, he played there in s15 and a lot for Wasps last season. Apparently he's now our first choice as that's where he wants to play, he had better lineout stats than our Italian but not so sure about the scrummaging part just yet.

Chris, we know he has played there and that Wasps are looking to move him there permanently, but whenever I saw him there, he was pretty hit and miss in the set piece, which is understandable.  After a full pre season working on playing hooker, he should be better, but currently, he's a gamble in the 2 jersey.
