Terry Jenkins (Eng) v Darin Young (USA)

Mensur Suljovic (Aut) v Jermaine Wattimena (Ned)

Andy Hamilton (Eng) v Joe Murnan (Eng)

Mostly straight forward for the big hitters but I expect Cristo Reyes might be worth a punt over Wes Newton and I fully expect Keegan Brown to give Snakebite fits.  That is the toughest opening round for any of the 'favourites' and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Brown turned him over.  Especially getting to Wright early before he has built up a head of steam.

Any thoughts?

It's the dream final at the 2017 world championships after Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen won their semi finals.

Reigning double champion outclassed fellow Scot Peter Wright 6-3. Anderson's winning streak at the world championships is now 17 matches.

In the other match MVG recorded the highest average ever seen in the world championships of 114.05 to batter Barney 6-2. Barney himself averaged 109! And in the process landed the record average in a loss(he took the record from MVG from last year)

The final should be sensational. Anderson is different class at the worlds. MVG has won the eight other PDC majors in a row.

I'm pretty sure he took the record from Reyes in his loss to MvG

4 sets gone and the standard has been brutal & breathtaking. To think Bristow used to boss this tournament with mid-90s averages. We've certainly moved on.

Michael van Gerwen is ridiculously great. Gary Anderson is one of my all time favourites(and he's a sensational player in his own right) but MVG is a class apart. The Dutch destroyer won't get 16 world championships but he might be the best ever.

Might ? He is.  I've watched this game religiously since the spit'n'sawdust days of Leighton 'The Combover' Rees and, trust me, he's the best I've ever seen  ( and ever likely to ).  The first 5 sets from Gary would have outclassed 90% of the PDC.  After that it was like trying to stop a runaway train with a fishing rod.  Fair enough, Phil Taylor delivered a trophy-haul that will almost certainly never be surpassed  but I'll fill a bookie's slip to any amount you want that backs Shrek's A game against anyone who has ever picked up a tungsten.

As good as a darter MvG is, I really cannot warm to him. He is a truly unlikeable character. When his does his interviews in Dutch, even the Dutch commentators cringe.

I think he's quite refreshing. I hate fake modesty.
He's very confident and feels if he plays to his abilities that nobody can beat him and he's not afraid to say so.
Unlike f.i. Anderson claiming he was happy to just get past the 1st round. I have a hard time believing that.
