World T20 Final England vs West Indies

Post by VTR on Fri 01 Apr 2016, 7:31 am

I thought this now warranted a separate thread. We have a final that not many would have predicted either team would make, and a combination of finalists that probably no-one predicted!

Hoping for a good game but ultimately an England win

Looks like it should be a high scoring final on paper. Both teams have powerful batting line ups, and have bowling line ups that can ship runs. Hard to call, as is any game in T20, but my mind and heart says England.

I think both sides have batting line ups that could let them down on the day. We might see a one sided contest. Windies are all or nothing, they mainly try to hit boundaries rather than take singles and twos. If it comes off they win most times but on other days those big shots could go up in the air or find long on for example

England's issue for me is the over-reliance on a couple of players with Morgan in awful form, Hales looking scratchy and Stokes who has never played a significant T20I innings

Morgan and Hales have proven they can score in this format. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them make a contribution tomorrow. In fact I'd say we have more match winners than the West Indies.

I agree with that, it would be nice for Hales and Morgan to step up as Roy/Root/Buttler are not always going to come off

Id certainly agree theres more quality in depth in England, but then the real superstar of the piece is Chris Gayle. Even though it was others who stepped up to the plate (as Roy per England) in the semi hes still the one. And hopefully England will have a ddifferent tactic for bowling to him in the final.
If you look through the line ups England have more players who perform consistently than the Windies.

I reckon both sides would be happier chasing, it suits their style.

The game is so tight with bookmakers - largely a 10/11 spread on both teams.

England have got more match-winners in their batting, and their bowling and fielding has slowly risen to the required standard - so I give England a very narrow nod.

England have the better more consistent batsmen but as we saw against India, somebody like Simmonds might play a lucky blinder, the death bowling of Stokes and Jordan could be key.

Hi Duty - I was at the Oval today where someone said - in apparent seriousness - that he was ''going to bet on both teams to be sure of getting something back!'' Smile

Technically he's not wrong, if by "getting something back" he means the bookies giving him some money. Problem is, it will be almost surely (in the probability sense of the term, that is, with probability equal to one) less than what he paid them initially Very Happy

This game is literally just whoever turns up and plays better on the day wins - we may have the more match winners in our batting line up, but the west Indies have players with far more t20 experience.

Hoping we get a good pitch 160-170 par type pitch.

I put money on both England and New Zealand (admittedly at different times) in the semi, and with judicious use of cash out options made money on both.

My favourite bet though was Bangladesh at 33-1 to beat India at one point, which I cashed out in the final over at 11-1.

Please note, only gamble what you can afford and you will in the long run lose more than you win.

In the women's final Australia racked up 150 from their 20 overs

Pitch seems to be a good one, outfield is quick too

Congrats to the ladies. Just go to show that talent can beat money. Australia with their big leagues ,great infrastructure etc and the west indies with only talent and drive beat them.

Sport is such a great and objective leveller .

So under 19 world cup ... won

Women's t20 world cup... won

Mens ... to be won

Well done West Indies ladies clap

Didn't expect that result.

Pitch looks like a good one - high score needed whoever bats first tonight : given both teams have some excellent chasers I'm not sure what , if anything , will be considered "enough". Which I suppose could lead the first team to overreach ...

I would have batted if I were Sammy.

Put on 200 and put pressure on england to chase .

Chasing in a final can be high pressured.

Mr Brown - take your point about chasing in a final can be high pressured but would still have preferred England to chase than set. Particularly with the depth of the England batting. Anyway, we are where we are and off we go ....

These two are the best in the side. Root and Butler.

We need to get them. They can take it away.

Butler is the perfect foil for root

Excellent bowling from Badree. Credit to Sammy for keeping him on and cashing in at the time. The subsequent rebuilding has slowed England's run rate. Currently 67/3 at the halfway point of the innings. We'll do well to get 160 from here and I doubt that'll be enough.
