Wimbledon 2016 - Mens Quarterfinals Empty Wimbledon 2016 - Mens Quarterfinals

Post by laverfan Wed 06 Jul 2016, 4:27 am

Schedule and Live Scores.

All four QFs are intriguing.

Raonic v Querrey - Raonic played a five-setter vs Goffin, while Querrey has been good nick. An upset with Querrey coming through, perhaps?

Federer v Cilic - Federer may have reached his limit. A miracle is needed for him to go through. I keep Pancho at the back of mind, though.

Berdych v Pouille - Big stage for Pouille. Berdych has experience, but Pouille has youth. The Vesely match may help Pouille with a bit of confidence.

MotD - Murray v Tsonga. Tsonga is a dangerous Grass player. Murray's taming of Kyrgios should give him faith in his own ability to get to Final.

Sam Querrey Performance Time Line.  Let's pick it up when he was 24 years old and the year beginning 2012:
AO . 2012: 2R
FO . 2012: 1R
W .. 2012: 3R
USO 2012: 3R
AO . 2013: 3R
FO . 2013: 3R
W .. 2013: 1R
USO 2013: 2R
AO . 2014: 3R
FO . 2014: 2R
W .. 2014: 2R
USO 2014: 3R
AO . 2015: 1R
FO . 2015: 1R
W .. 2015: 2R
USO 2015: 1R
AO . 2016: 1R
FO . 2016: 1R
W .. 2016: QF at least

So what has changed? Luck? Alignment of stars? Change in coaching / training regime? Something else?

Expecting Fed to lose to Cilic. Am taking Murray to beat Tsonga, Raonic to overcome Querrey and Berdych to be too much for Pouille.

I personally think cilic will tighten up with the occasion to let fed through.
The final we all want (neutrally at least) is fed murray III. So I'll go for those two

Raonic and berdy to make up the other 2

Raonic in 4
Federer in 3
Berdych in 4
Murray in 4

Feel that Cilic is being hyped up a bit more than his current record against top players shows. So expect Federer to take him out quite easily. Hoping that Murray can keep the focus that he had against Kyrgios as prior to that match he seemed to imply that could be his biggest hurdle on way to final. Berdych to use his experience to beat Pouille. In the battle of the big servers I feel Raonic has more outside of his serve than Querrey.

Pretty much with you on all of these - although I think JWT could put up a very good fight v Murray. Hope it's a quality match either way.

One of the TV pundits was showering praise on Fed for his last round performance, but personally I saw only periodic glimpses of the full fat Federer from times past. He has yet to drop a set, and think he could well falter if Cilic were to take either of the first two (or both ....chin ) today - which he is more than capable of doing. Plus.....even if Fed were to pull though a hard-fought 4 or 5 setter, it's highly questionable how much would be left in the ageing tank for a SF battle on Friday.

Fed playing well so far but not quite able to get the break. I think it's probably heading for a tiebreak - vital for Cilic to win that to have any chance. Wouldn't surprise me though if Fed took it 7-5.

Am not convinced that Fed is playing that well. You just feel that he can begin spraying wild errors at any time.

Cilic looks controlled & comfortable.

All the bad signs were there in the early rounds, but opponents weren't strong enough to expose the rustiness.

Cilic is able to do just that.

It has been poor beyond belief. What is even more amazing is that RF had break point chances in both set 1 and 2. At all the crucial points in the match - he has been desperate.

Cilic is not playing amazing. Just slightly better.

Really poor quality match if I'm honest. Miss hits, poor timing.

Fed takes 3rd 6-3 after being 0-40 at 3-3. It was though he suddenly realised how to time the ball.

The "heat" of London won't make a difference. It's the coolest of all grand slams. 3 or 4 hours on any court regardless of temperature isn't going to help him at his age.

I don't think either is playing particularly well. The cold hard facts are one break of serve a piece and RF has had break points in 3 service games compared to Cilic's 2. And one tie break is all that's between them. It really is that close. Between two average performances it should be said.

And Cilic blows 2 consecutive break points in game 4 of set 4. He's currently 1/6. Fed 1/4. Both vying to become Mayor of Bottlesville, Tennessee.

Fed is beginning to get a good read on the ultra-powerful Cilic serve.

Way too late now - but if he had played like this in either of the first two sets, could well have been a different story.
