Re: 2016 WWE Draft

Post by Crimey on Wed Jul 13, 2016 4:52 am

It's most likely Daniel Bryan for Smackdown.

I'm not sure for Raw, it won't be anybody we saw come out in the previous weeks. Triple H is possible, but then doesn't he already have authority? I wouldn't be too surprised by somebody like Edge & Christian.

Draft wise, I expect Cena and Reigns will be kept separate as the nominal two biggest stars. I'm guessing Cena to Smackdown, Reigns on Raw.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one or more of the Shield moved to Smackdown, so that Battleground is set out as where does the WWE Championship end up, Raw or Smackdown?

@shanemcmahon
I'm very excited to announce that terms were agreed to today with the new SmackDown GM. The person will be revealed live this Monday on Raw.

Someone at WWE.com Frak up:

I assume that's a D Bryan reference.

I wonder if JBL might be a contender for RAW GM, I've always felt he'd be a good authority figure and I think he'd have the presence not to be overshadowed by Stephanie

I'm really intrigued to see how the WWE go about this, I'm glad Shane has SmackDown! because he's been going on about changing the WWE up for months, there's no-way Vince would do anything to out the box to RAW so it gives the WWE some real lee-way when changing the whole look and feel of SmackDown!

I want them to lose the ramp, get back to blue ring ropes, change the colour of the canvas too, I'd like to see them narrow the isle so there's a more intimate feel between the fans and the Wrestlers, either reintroduce the SmackDown! fist or something else that makes SD instantly recognisable, hopefully see them with their own individual announce team and even give the referee's their own uniform again.

As for the talent, for it to remain as credible as possible and as realistic as possible then neither brand can get too much of an upperhand, looking at the main event guys on the roster right now you've got Cena, AJ Styles, Rollins, Ambrose, Reigns, Rusev, Bray Wyatt and Orton - realistically if picks are to be believable 4 of those 8 guys need to end up on SmackDown!

Then you have Owens, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Jericho, Sheamus, The Miz, Darren Young and Del Rio - 4 of those guys you'd think would need to be on SmackDown!

The New Day and Enzo & Big Cass should be kept apart too, both are quite similar in what they do and given their own show you'd see them continue to have the space to breath.

The Big Show should be headed to one show while Mark Henry headed to the other.

All the Wyatt's should stay with Bray IMO, a smaller roster will hopefully make their group a much more formidable force

I think this would be a good opportunity for Bubba Ray Dudley to get a heel run for the next year, he's more than capable of holding his own very high on the card and now there's a thinning out of the roster he could be quite handy for the next year

You then look at Finn Balor, Bobby Roode and Samoa Joe alongside Nakamura and Austin Aries in NXT, guys who are already World Class talents and not only capable but more than deserving to be on the main rosters

Im with you KayFabe, its exciting times but WWE really need to go for it. Full seperate identity, almost to the point it feels like two seperate companies.

The only thing Im worried about is RAW. Cant see that doing well with a thin roster and a three hour show to fill.

I think RAW has to be a bit more top heavy with that extra hour, I'm quite disappointed in the WWE with this though, they have their own Network and could and should be getting hours and hours of exvlusive footage on the draft to promote the hell out of it.

I really like what they did with that "Bracketology" show which highlights the cruiserweights, they should be doing that with RAW/SD and have 'experts' speculating on how it could go down, play put potential scenarios, what if's...make next week's SmackDown! draft one of the most must see shows of the year.

Totally agree with you KF about Smackdown needing it's own identity again. I fear that Cena and Reigns being kept apart will lead to them meeting at Wrestlemania next year.

I hate the idea of Daniel Bryan being GM though, I immediately think of him goofing around in weekly comedy segments. For me it would be....

Raw - Paul Heyman
Smackdown - Sting

As if the WWE Draft on SmackDown Live’s Tuesday night premiere on USA Network July 19 wasn’t big enough, the WWE Universe will also be able to watch a special WWE Draft Center Live second screen experience at 8/7 C — exclusively on WWE Network — as well as a SmackDown Live Pre-Show at 7/6 C across all digital platforms. Then, following all the exciting Draft action, there will be a Network exclusive SmackDown Post-Show at 10/9 C to break down all the events of the evening.

While Superstars like Seth Rollins, John Cena, Charlotte and the rest of the roster anxiously anticipate their fate with the clock ticking toward one of the most critical nights in WWE history, the action will begin with the SmackDown Live Pre-Show, featuring expert analysis on what may unfold throughout the evening.

Then, as the WWE Universe tunes in to the WWE Draft on SmackDown Live, fans will also have the opportunity to enhance their experience with the WWE Draft Center Live, a special supplemental show airing exclusively on WWE Network during the SmackDown broadcast. The revolutionary telecast will allow the WWE Universe to get inside the Draft in a way unlike any other as the lives of Superstars change forever – exclusively for WWE Network subscribers. Subscribe to WWE Network today to be part of this incredible experience!

The night will then conclude with the SmackDown Post-Show, exclusively on WWE Network, where reaction and analysis will surely be at a premium following all the memorable moments that the Draft will surely cause.

Watch it all unfold on Tuesday, July 19 beginning at 7/6 C, when SmackDown goes LIVE with the SmackDown Pre-Show, the WWE Draft Center and of course, the WWE Draft itself!

Wouldnt mind having Joe debut on the main shows still holding the NXT title. Owens still had it when he debuted i think?

He's dropping it to Shinsuke by the sounds of it in the next few months or so

RAW has the first overall pick
Since SmackDown Live is a two-hour show and Raw is three hours, for every two picks SmackDown Live receives, Raw will receive three picks

Male Superstars

AJ Styles
Alberto Del Rio
Apollo Crews
Baron Corbin

There's 58 individuals and tag teams here (including six NXT picks), so Raw would get 35 roster members and Smackdown would get 23.

They're small rosters, but not ridiculously so. I expect though that this means there will definitely be a couple of tag teams split up to pad out each roster.

Be interesting to see who comes up from NXT.

I would assume Balor,American Alpha,Bayley

Possibly Dillinger,Itami,Blake & Murphy

Can't imagine they would bring Joe,Aries,Roode,Nakamura or Dash & Wilder up just yet.

So the WWE Draft rules are

● RAW gets first Pick
● For every two SmackDown! picks RAW gets three
● Tag Teams are drafted together unless a Commissioner/GM specifically only wants one half
● Six talents drafted from NXT

Really glad they specified this, make its a whole lot clearer.

I'm more excited about the WWE right now than I have been since about 2009, there has been guys Punk/D-Bry thst have captured the imagination and PPVs but as a whole I've not been this interested in years.

Initially Im underwhelmed. I think they've made a massive mistake splitting the tag and Womens divisions - SmackDowns in particular looks shocking. Half the NXT call ups arent ready, RAW doesnt have a stand out Babyface unless Rollins turns which means Sami or Finn are going to be thrust into that spot. Not seperating Owens and Zayn is a mistake, especially when SmackDown really has a harsh drop in quality between upper and mid card.

Not as exciting as I could have hoped, but Im still willing to give them a chance to see what happens.

Random thoughts:

Cesaro still stuck in a packed card. He could be a massive face and I wanted him on Smackdown to really establish that with a bit more room to breathe.

Don't agree with splitting Dean and Rollins either. All the Shield members should have stayed on Raw as they are the main event right now excluding the veteran stars (Cena, Orton and Styles)

Glad those three moved together and ended up on Smackdown. Very happy with a few of the NXT call ups, Finn and Alpha are going to be over very quickly, and Bayley too obviously but shes not confirmed til Battleground. Alexa Bliss is the hottest Diva since Maria.

Raw seems a lot more excessively stacked when you realise the cruiserweights are there exclusively too

The announce teams have been shaken up aswell.

RAW: Michael Cole, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves
SmackDown: Mauro Ranallo, JBL and David Otunga

Watching it Live i was thinking RAW's 2nd & 3rd choice picks would have made far more sense if Shane had drafted them given what he said about a new era, as a shoot draft though it was a little hard to believe that a huge draw like Cena was overlooked for Charlotte and Bàlor...

I quite like the rosters, Cesaro had to be on SD and I'd have kept Orton & Cena apart

I also wasn't a fan of RAW always getting first pick, while we all know the drsfts are pre determined it just made most of SDs choices look like second choices instead of first

Re: 2016 WWE Draft

Post by Keiguers on Wed Jul 20, 2016 8:44 pm

Few thoughts from a new poster.... sorry if I waffle!

Feel they missed a chance to make this a really, really good 2 hours of TV here and its left me a little underwhelmed.

My views:

- Darren Young and Zack Ryder are challengers for titles this Sunday.... neither got announced as draft picks on the show, way to make them look credible leading into Battleground....

- Why bother with the whole Wyatt family/New Day compound segment.... then casually split the Wyatts up via the draft?

- Same with the Club..... big match coming up Sunday..... already know AJ will be on separate brands and Balor will be on the RAW alongside Gallows/Anderson..... fairly predictable what is gonna happen Sunday?

- Few NXT guys I am a bit gutted for in regards to call ups, Tye Dillinger I think would be a great addition and has certainly done enough to get his character over and grow NXT enough to warrant that call, also think Bobby Roode and/or Austin Aries could have been a decent shout, Blake and Murphy also would offer more than the Ascension.......

- Natalya gets named as a pick on the show..... Paige doesn't...... same with ADR, the USO's etc..... think they could have spent more time on the draft picks and less on filler matches we have seen time and time again

- Little confused on the belts and how title matches will now get made given the tag teams and women are scattered between 2 brands..... would have preferred the US, womens, and cruiserweight on RAW, and the IC and tag on Smackdown.

Also think they missed an OMFG moment by announcing Balor in the draft..... could have left him out, which would have confused a lot of people.... then have him appear Sunday..... what a pop that would have been.

Any one else have any thoughts to add?

Im prepared to give them a chance, but i really can't see Smackdown doing anything.

Agree that Smackdown was made to look second best the whole show..... Shane ripping up his paper when Raw got Enzo and Cass etc.... time will tell I guess, interested to see if they change the layout of the show (ring, stage etc)

The worst part is splitting the Wyatts up, the only way to save it would be for Harper to return on Raw and control Strowman for Wyatt, giving the family control over both brands.

Smackdown isnt too badly stacked for me tbh. Styles, Cena and Orton are main eventers and Wyatt can hold his own in that between space between main and the upper mid

The thing that worries me the most about SmackDown is the sheer gulf in quality.

RAW has quite a steady incline with a diverse amount of talent and not much seperating upper and mid cards. SmackDown is like a cliff face going from Ambrose and Styles to Corbin and Crewes. Hopefully ADR and Ziggler can get built up a bit better to try and bridge that gap a bit.

I'm hoping Ziggler can get a bit of a boost and a lot of people have been waiting on ADR to do his out of WWE schtick, if they let him loose then he could become a must see guy, something I'd never contemplate saying previously.

What an awful thing to watch, and how poorly its panned out. Which is no surprise to me as someone who is not a fan of the brand split in general. But then that may be blinding my view.

The main problem with picking like this is the logic. Why would anyone want Carmella, Alexa or Nia but not, well, any of the main event calibre people on the NXT roster?

Think this highlights how dull some parts of the roster are.
