US Open - Day Two

Post by CaledonianCraig on Tue 30 Aug 2016, 6:03 pm

Day Two sees Andy Murray begin his quest for his fourth slam win later. Heather Watson has already crashed out. Dan Evans is locked in a tight battle at one set all and Kei Nishikori started off coasting but is now being pulled into a battle. German supposed star of future Zverev also in trouble early on.

A fine win for Dan Evans and he will play Alex Zverev in the Second Round. Ranking points that help keep him on the verge of breaking into the top 50. Kei Nishikori won in four sets and Wawrinka and Verdasco are level at 5-5 in the first set in what could be the match of the First Round.

The all British clash between Brody and Robson just underway. I fancy Brody to win this though it would seem many favour Robson.

Some intriguing results/scores today. Donaldson taking out Goffin in 4 is a big shock. Tomic also out. Thiem down 2 sets to 1 to Millman and Johnson down 2-0 to Donskoy. Would open DP's draw up nicely if they both lose.

I do not want too many early upsets in the bottom half.  I am planning to go to the USO on Saturday, so am hoping that most of the really interesting players stay around until then.  Ok for them to lose in thrillers on Saturday Smile

Thiem breaks and leads 4:2 in the final set. Hopefully he will advance today.

Murray wins 6-3 6-2 6-2. I never saw the match as was working but seems like a solid performance. The shock of the day was Goffin crashing out to Donaldson although other seeds such as Querrey did exit.
