On paper this should be a massacre - Leinster looked very good indeed for large spells against Glasgow, but Glasgow just found another gear.

Edinburgh always struggle to play against teams that play at tempo and I fear that the new Leinster 10 will find a lot of space to run riot.

Our usual tactic of dominate up front to starve the opposition of ball won't work if our pack performs like it has done so far - the lineout in particular has been a shambles.

On the positive side, I think our bench offered a lot of impetus last week - Dell, McKenzie and Watson in particular - and I think the balance of our team against Scarlets was much better. Solomons still doesn't trust anyone but Nel though who played 80 minutes.

Loving the thread. Not that much can be improved on this, but just for info the game is being shown on BBC Alba. I can only imagine this is some plan to turn people off rugby by showing 3 Edinburgh games in 3 weeks.

Poor old Nel is in for another season of being flogged, isn't he? When he eventually heads off to pick up his retirement cheque in the south of France, nobody will be able to say he hasn't earned it.

Leinster won't be as bad as the Scarlets, and perhaps they might have some of the big guns back? Leinster by 10+.

I know he would never do it but it gives the benefit of reducing time on key players. If the game is close at the hour mark, the front 5 gets a huge injection of talent to terrorise the pack.

My expectation is SHC and Scholes will come back in. Bryce and Ritchie could do with taking a game off to reset. Not good to have players in poor form keeping their spots when there are reasonable alternatives.

It's a fair point on SHC and Scholes HS - both have a point to prove if given a start and it might be a masterstroke of man management from Solomons if they are given a chance. Fowles and Bryce haven't exactly been star performers either.

Still I'd be surprised if he didn't pick all but one or two of the starting XV from the Scarlets game - it just isn't his style.

So a combination of what I think he'll pick with some hopes of what he might pick to shake things up would be

In all seriousness though, if this run of form continues who are Edinburgh going to beat apart from Dragons and Zebre? The win vs Scarlets came from sloppy mistakes from Scarlets - Edinburgh didn't get any points in the second half.

The serious answer is that if things were so bad that the SRU decided to sack Solomons to show that they are actually doing something about it, I suspect Stevie Scott will take over for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent new coach being appointed next season.

I don't see that solving much though as Scott would probably just use the same gameplan as Solomons given that we will be in the middle of a season.

Agreed. I'm rapidly moving on from the idea of Scott being the next Head Coach. There's very little going right on the pitch at the moment and I'm not so sure the solution is to promote those responsible (otherwise known as "doing an RBS").

The concern with that is that if on the off chance Edinburgh are doing ok on the 60 minute mark, Leinster have oodles of class and experience on the bench. We'll have Fraser McKenzie and Simon Berghan.

For the one or two Leinster fans who won't be travelling over for the match, the game will be also be available on the normal Gaelic speaking station - TG4 - on which the presenters are better looking, and the analysts decidedly not.

Scarlets let me down last week - I had them to win with +7 headstart at 1/2 and they went and lost to fecking Edinburgh by 11 points!

Unfortunately for the spectators, that’s the way we’ve had to play our games over the last two weeks, so I really hope we do get some dry weather.

“We do have a style of game we would like to play in those conditions and I think you will see it if it is dry. “Glasgow have had a couple of dry games and we haven’t. They do play a different style to what you’ve seen [from Edinburgh] in the past couple of weeks, but if we get a dry night you will see a different team. “Looking at the conditions last weekend, we had to play that way. It was one of those games where you couldn’t throw the ball around. Those balls are like a bar of soap when it rains.

“I think we did very well in those conditions. We played them better than the opposition did.” Burleigh added: “The weather dictates our gameplan. We have some very astute footballers and they dictate how we play in those conditions. Last weekend might not have been what people want to see but that’s the way it had to happen to win the game.” Following their defeat at the hands of a Tommy Seymour-inspired Glasgow at the weekend, Leinster are the next  visitors to Edinburgh and will be searching for a first victory in Scotland since they won at Murrayfield on the last day of the 2014-15 season.

Burleigh accepts Edinburgh will need to raise their game for the Irishmen and said the squad had been poring over the tape from Scotstoun. “The coaching staff had a busy weekend and the players get it all [the video],” he said. “Leinster are a good team, there’s no doubt about it, so we’re going to have to be on top of our game to beat those guys.” Burleigh, who received a first ever yellow card in  Edinburgh colours last week (“My bad. I had thrown a poor pass in the middle and out of frustration I went straight through the ruck. It was a bit silly of me. Never again”), is enjoying focusing purely on the inside centre berth after a couple of years covering stand-off too. With last Friday’s man of the match Duncan Weir and the currently injured Jason Tovey now in the squad, Burleigh knows that, barring a run of injuries, he has a settled position.

“I’m enjoying being back at 12,” he said. “That’s the position where I’ve played most of my rugby so I’m back at home there and feel good. “It’s easy playing outside Duncan Weir and the likes. They are making it easy by putting the ball in the right places. I don’t have to do a lot of kicking any more, so that’s nice. “My focus now is on playing 12. Obviously, Jason is injured at the moment and if there are injuries I may have to step up into the role. Blair Kinghorn is here as well and he’s a very good young player and he’ll get his chance.

“Having that depth there in that position is huge; we’ve probably not been like that in the last couple of years so it’s nice to have a few good tens.”

He's also come out on the bbc saying that we don't need to play attractive rugby to improve attendances and that winning will get the crowds in. Sure everyone likes winning, but we're not doing much of that either.

"It is not something we take notice of as players. If we are winning games, that is the end of the story.

"If we win all our games in that style [the win over Scarlets], I bet we'd have a full stadium at the end of the year watching a Grand Final, with us in it.

"I know it may look that way in the last couple of weeks but it doesn't frustrate us at all."

What's it like playing in front of a few thousand in a 67,500-capacity stadium?
"You don't notice it to be honest. You are so focused on the game. It would be brilliant if you had a full stadium [at Murrayfield]. That is not going to happen, we know that."But you take your mind away from it and you get on with your job. We have still got our good local supporters here. The same crew come along every week so we respect that."
Burleigh, who has switched to his old position of inside centre with the arrival of fly-half Duncan Weir from Glasgow, says weather conditions dictated Edinburgh's game plan in their opening two Pro12 matches.

He believes fans will see a more expansive style given a dry evening, starting with Friday's visit of Irish province Leinster, and maintains progress is being made despite last season's ninth place following eighth-place finishes the two previous years.

"I think it has definitely come along in the last three years," the 29-year-old added.

"We have built strongly as a squad, and I would like to think that this year we will definitely better ourselves again.

"When we make the move to Myreside [in early January], that is going to be big for us. I hope we end up getting a few more people to the ground - that would be brilliant.

"Hopefully we will have a few more wins under our belt by then, and we will get a full stadium. You never know."

I agree to an extent - there are plenty teams in rugby that don't play an exciting brand yet get big crowds - but it is the combination of losing and playing crap rugby that is the killer.

If we finished 9th last season yet threw the ball about and played some attractive rugby I bet the attendances would have been bigger.

Totally agree, if we could do one of the two that would be a great start. I mean under Bradley we were terrible but threw the ball about and the crowds were better. Or as you say if we played our current style but it was successful then great, but being dull and sh*te is a potent mix of being incredibly unappealing. Throw in there being no atmosphere (at MF) and it's really hard to convince people to come out and spend their hard earned money on the product on offer.
