ATP unsurprisingly taken a hard line on his lack of effort in Shanghai. Sounds like his ban ends just in time for him to play the Australian Open.

Apparently this will be reduced to 3 weeks as he has agreed to enter a plan of care with a sports psychologist.

I'm both amused and bored by the sense of outrage Kyrgios's latest antics have yielded

Of course he'd have been in trouble at any time in the past, but he would be just another 'bad boy', if it was 40 years ago - with an amused shrug of the shoulders

I suppose it's shows how sanitised the world has become. I mean I'm sure the ATP are poised to send Novak to the same sports psychologist, given the mutterings about his shirt tearing / and racquet smashing during the recent defeat

I don't see what you think the ATP should do Banbro. Fair enough, 40 years ago, players may have been allowed to throw matches without sanction. However, we are now in an age of compulsory tournaments where players are expected to put in effort - not unreasonable given the vast monies they receive.

It's possible to put on an entertaining match whilst not caring if you win or lose. Rolling serves in at 30mph and walking off court when your opponent is serving is not the way to do so.

If anything, the ATP appears to have been fairly understanding in this instance.

I'm not blaming the ATP and have said before, that of course there had to be some kind of reckoning

I'm 'amused' by the outrage. But I always am, whether it been the tittle tattle about Hamilton's latest strop (i.e. noting compared to Senna) or the way we think footballers should be perfectly behaved and then laud the ones from 40 years ago, who simply didn't and were encouraged not do
