Post by KP_fan on Fri 14 Oct 2016, 6:20 pm

it's a home game for Pak...first test in Dubai and maan...it's a road strip.....lights, pink ball didn't given an inch of deviation...
we'll see how WI bat but given their depth.....it's heading for a draw

Windies closed on 67-1...must have been flat for them to have only been 1 down..

wahab riaz plucked out two quick wickets even on this dead pitch to give pak the advantage.....
WI have to avoid the follow-on....these two and Bishoo can bat.

so WI need too last one more session and if they do.....Draw would be the likeliest result

Pak bowled out for 123 leaving Wi 350 to chase with plenty of overs.
Bishoo 8-fer....was it the spell of his life
Or an effort from pak that is suspicious ?

If WI go on to win and without too much effort.....my suspicion theory will become validated.....at least in my mind

Gabriel and Holder - last wicket pair - need 61 to win.  Or to bat out last 13 overs.

Its good to see West Indies being competitive* with a top side and actually showing some dog in last innings

*well competitive if you ignore that Pakistan declared with only 3 wickets down, they got murdered in the first two days

Whats with Bishoo? He seems to be capable of delivering some destructive performances but is usually massively innocuous. It clearly wasnt just the pitch doing the work in this case. You could argue that for the West Indies side as a whole....that they have a number of players capable of delivering spectacular performances but who bring even their B game far too infrequently and are usually content to pick up their (meager) paycheck for wandering around looking bored.

The left armer all rounder in the Pakistan side looks like he could make them an even more dangerous side , although they still have a hell of a tail by modern standards.

Im not even going to mention the betting odds of how the next test will pan out, but Im sure there will be more unexpected events and drama.

WI dismiss Pak for 281 in the first inning...and although they are also 122-4...there are prospects of a more even contest in this game

Looks like it might be quite a handy lead, at liunch 33 ahead with Braithwaite still in and 7 down. If the tail can hang about or club a few a lead noticeably over 50 gives them a real advantage.
I wouldnt go as far as to say favourites though, Pakistan are still much the better side.

chasing 4th inning 153 for a win...WI need 90 more with 6 wickets in hand

tough batting on a spinning ptich where Yasir shah is running throuhg them.....but doable.....I put it as a 55-45 game in favor of WI still at this point.

Bratihwate still holding one end and has 4 more allrounders to support him

This is getting tight, but an exciting finish for the neutral. Braithwate does not deserve to be on the losing side and it still out there, but has seen 5 wickets fall at the other end already, with over half of the runs still to get

Riaz is breathing fire...they have to see his spell off without any further damage..and nice 35 run partnership will get them to within 40 runs of a win

Dowrich has stroked 31 runs in an unbeaten partnrship of 40 odd with Brathwaite
WI need 46 more....
they need to get it to 25 without losing a wicket and then they can breathe better

They SHOULD win from here. But all is possible, especially with Pakistans quality all round bowling.

Nice to see some fight from WI. Its not just Braithwaites test, although he will go home with the plaudits others have made solid contributions to bail out the failings of 2-4 (England would play these guys if they were eligible)

Pakistan still favorites in my book, though West Indies need less than 40 to win now. All that Pakistan need tomorrow is 1 early wicket, don't think the West Indies lower order would be up to it when it comes to dealing with the pressure. The likes of Gabriel, the only way they would score is by slogging. The game situation means they won't be able to do that, and they are not capable of defending....... If these 2, Brathwaite and Dowrich can see it through then great. But beyond Holder and Bishoo, there is no hope really.

Braithwaite becomes the first opener in tests to not be dismissed in either innings as West Indies win!

quite easily done today....and what a test match for Brathwaite Shocked

and that's why WI are never out  inspite of being lowest ranked....they have talent and a cricketing history and top level temperament...and every now and then they turn up in full force with all those attributes to topple a top side.....

Dorwich had a good test too....47 and 60*.....Holder took his first 5-fer.....Bishoo has had wickets all through the series and gets useful lower order runs too

The came close to winning or drawing the first test on the back of 2 good innings from Bravo.

a good series as was the last series against India where they showed some fight.....
Chase, Dorwich, Bishoo, Hodlder, Brathwaite, Bravo, Joseph, Miguel form a nice core...and I think Cralos Brathwaite should also be in the side...

an optimistic would see a new dawn for WI in test cricket.....realists will reserve their judgement for now and enjoy the good game and a good series this was

Think this would be yet another false dawn as the test win coinsides with Marlon Samuels, Carlos Brathwaite, and most importantly, Darren Bravo rejecting the WICB central contracts. Samuels is done and is a liability as a test batsman and should have been dropped long time ago. Carlos Brathwaite would have been a decent seam bowling backup and useful bat, any better than passenger Samuels, but is not demanding test selection. But Bravo's case is different, he has to be their batting mainstay in tests along with Kraigg Brathwaite. Unlike his half brother, the younger Bravo hasn't been the biggest T-20 attraction across the world, but the rejection of the contract indicates that he would also be looking at that direction.......
Seems all that the West Indies has become for players is a platform to get international attention. Ones they get that, they would move on to greener pastures Who would leave next? Young Joseph perhaps? Only those who wouldn't be picked up by T-20 leagues across the world would be playing test for them.
Hopeless........

Overly Optimistic view:

If its seen as a pathway to riches then that has to be a bettr motivation than the previous situation of being a pathway to nothing.

If it encourages a conveyor belt of talent that can only benefit the wider game in the West Indies, if players move on from the national team every few years that means more psots available and a greater sense of opportunity for aspiring young cricketers....and hopefuly more peopel being attracted back into the grassroots. It may also force/encourage the boards to invest in grassroots devleopment, knowing they need a constant stream of fresh blood to come through.

Maybe the like of Samuels wont feel so able to laze around and misbehave if the aspiration is to put themselves in the shop window for a big global pay deal.

I don't hold out much hope for the windies, it was a good win but a dead rubber and all the old issues remain. I don't buy them being competitive in the other two tests either, they were essentially pulverised in both, but only the vagaries of Pakistan having to create time for a win gave them any chance.

First test Pakistan could have made a thousand first innings if they had time. Second test, they could have set 600

Well what does that say about England VTR ?
Right now theyd pay IPL money for a spinner like Bishoo...as infuriatingly hot and cold as he is.

Well England are far from perfect at the moment, but are a lot more competitive and rightly far higher ranked than the Windies. Bishoo is decent but not a world-beater - not the kind of player I am dreaming of England unearthing to be honest
