Seems like a strange choice by Ulster but fair enough.

I think he's done okay at Saracens but he's clearly a 2nd choice 2nd row. He's a good squad 2nd row/cover but if I were you I wouldn't want him to be your 1st choice.

James Johnston was one of the few poor signings by Saracens in the last few years. From what I heard is that his conditioning wasn't good enough.

Sure Saracens have some big lads but they are expected to be sufficiently fit. Johnston wasn't.

Compare him to the Vunipola Bros who though big lads who have high enough workrates to contribute well to the team.

Hamilton is big and aggressive but he's well past his best.

Beshocked what I like about the Vunipola brothers is that they are more than big and fit. The hard work and physicality is there but they both work hard on the technical side of their games. Mako has very soft hands for a prop and works hard a his scrummaging. Johnston never looked like he did.

As I say I reckon Hamilton is as much about knocking heads together and doing some coaching as playing.
Henderson and Treadwell, who has come on a bundle, will be first choice locks.

Hopefully. They had one very good game together and then that was that. Henderson has been at 6 ever since.

Just a word of warning. Him and Goode mess about with his phone for the podcast they do. He tweeted (and then quickly deleted) that he was joining LI the other week, after it had been rumoured.

TRP have since suggested that he may be retiring.

The Ulster move may well be true, but I wouldn't count your chickens based on one of his tweets

Sam I know it's not as simplistic as Vunipola bros being big and fit but they've grown as players.

If you compare Mako in 2013 to Mako 2017 - he's just a better player.

Billy Vunipola's conditioning has improved. He couldn't play a full 80 but then he played he played every minute in the 2015 6 nations.

You have players who have potential but they need to work on aspects on their game.

Equally I've been impressed by the work Tigers have done with Genge.

Genge hs developed very nicely. Cooled his temper just a little and with Stanko and Ayerza guiding him he is demolishing opposition tightheads at the minute. A tour to Argentina will be a great test for him. If there's some injuries he could yet be a Lions bolter.

So much potential.....and then a guaranteed brain fart at least once every couple of matches.

Harlequins have a history of pretty flaky back-up 10s.......A.Jarvis, Clegg, Botica, R.Jackson (sort of).
Think we might have solved that now with Swiel (just needs gametime)

You'd have thought they'd have to be some massive compensation paid over to get Saints to agree to let him go. That compensation could be used to get rid of West and Voldemort though so the board might be tempted.

If Saints agree it would be the dumbest thing they have ever done.

Picamoles has been the best 8 in the Aviva.
Without him they would be nowhere near a place in next years Champions Cup

They need to strengthen their backs - a decent 10 and 13 urgently required not weaken their pack

Francis is really not a 10 IMO.

And if Picamoles wants to go not much they can do to change it.

Maybe changes the coaches would be a good start but apprently can't afford to.

Montpellier have been in touch with Picamoles directly about him returning. And it's reported that Picamoles isn't happy with his move, misses France and his family and wants to be more involved in the Int squad.

Doesn't look good for saints there

This is all rumours from Midi, but they're quite knowledgeable usually. And they have spoken to Montpellier not the player.

"Midi says if Saints don't want Spies they will demand that Montpellier buy out the remaining 2 years of LP's contract - €470,000 a season"

I'd go far as to say Picamoles has been the signing of the season despite Saints not being able to turn good positions into enough victories.

Can understand that Picamoles would be frustated though, he's individually contributed so much but the rest of the Saints side aren't doing enough.

Saints have shown they aren't that far off the top 4 with 4 narrow losses but something has to change for the better.

they get stuff right but in terms of percentage they will be very low when it comes to rugby rumours.

Matt Kriel is rumoured to be joining the Tigers development squad from the Bulls.

He's the younger brother of Jesse Kriel, as always with these signings there seems an indication that the club are hoping the brother might follow...

Roberts out and Saili in for Quins? Saili would certainly fit the way they play (likes an offload). Taute the favoured option of the two for Munster who have been told they can only keep one (allegedly). Taute is still under contract with the Stormers until the end of the current Super 15 season.

Stunning signing for them. Will Cliff has also returned but with Phillips and probably Stringer leaving they needed  big game player. De Klerk will certainly offer that and give their forwards some real tempo in attack.

Sale have made two outstanding signings in Faf de Klerk and Josh Strauss. Jono Ross is also a good addition.

Diamond is still yet to make any serious improvements to his tight 5 though. Beaumont probably moving to second row should help this but could also back fire.

They to strengthen their props, especially at tight head.

Agree on their toght five situation. Harrison at loosehead is good but he's relied upon far to much. Longbottom at tighthead is passable and Aulika I'd a walking penalty who pops up with tries occasionally. If they can grab a couple of quality options up front to give them a secure scrum they'll be doing well.

Beaumont to lock with Evans or Ostrykov will give them good lineout jumpers and with Ross probably at 6 and Strauss at 8 there's some ball carrying targets to rumble on to de Klerk's passing game. The back division looks decent enough for Sale and is mostly home grown. I wonder if they still fancy signing another 10 with McGinty still a bit flaky.

Scum bag.

Twice he done it against us. Ended Vea's career and then exactly the same with his shoulder barges in the back against Sale.

Are you sure that it was deliberate?
Shoulder barges and hard hits are often a bit of a calling card for the PI heritage players.

Ive seen deliberate acts of foul play - but surely rarely its deliberately designed to retire another player.
The one that stands out for me is the Callum Clarke incident on Rob Hawkins. Clarke should have been given a life ban for that.

Nah the Taione Vea incident was a blatant intent! Smashed him with a shoulder charge from behind.

And in the reverse fixture he did no arms crazy shoulder charge against Wilson but fortunately Wilson came through it ok!

Was thinking what Gloucester need is more wing/15's. Three just isn't enough and after all its not like Marshall and Woodward are practically interchangeable...

I suspect Bristol might look to offload a few more players before the start of next season. They have a massive squad a good proportion of which they haven't used much this season.
