Lions 2005 - where did it all go wrong? Empty Lions 2005 - where did it all go wrong?

There have been some interesting articles recently stemming from an interview with Sir Clive about the 2005 Lions tour. It (slightly) eases the pain hearing him admit he got things wrong but feck me that tour was a catastrophe.

The BBC article sums things up pretty well

Admits he got things wrong??

"The hurt was huge. Any sensible person wouldn't have done it. But the template was right. You needed to take that many players. You do need two different teams. I think the template should have been copied.

"Did we lose a Test match because the players didn't room together? No. Did we lose the first Test because we picked Jonny ahead of Henson? No. I don't regret taking Alastair Campbell. He was fantastic. That was one of my better decisions.

He admits he shouldn't have been there which is fairly central to the discussion.

To be fair that interview does come across very differently to what the BBC have cherry picked.

It also features a very succinct summary of why a lot of people can't stand politicians, courtesy of Alastair Campbell:

'All you've done is answer every single question put to you. That's not a press conference. A press conference is about putting the message out that you want to put out. Ignore the question, just say what you want to say.

The article is further proof that England won the 2003 world cup in spite of Woodward and not because of Woodward.

All kinds of things that are coming out of the woodwork now.
How ridiculous for the England players to have their own rooms.

How could anyone with even the slightest idea about people not understand how divisive sh!t like that would be. Players are units of production to Woodward. They're certainly not people.
