Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
My wife and I were already booked up to be in Vegas weekend of 28th and she managed to get us tickets to the fight.
So I am really looking for any tips from people that are seasoned Vegas big fight go-ers and can recommend the best places to go pre/post and best ways to make the most of it.

Sorry have no experience of Vegas to offer but you probably can't go wrong by following the big drunk green mob around afterwards. Who knows maybe Frampton will book out another irish bar like after the first fight...!

It would have been perfect for me: massive Frampton fan and my birthday weekend (a big one)! Instead, I'm heading to Belfast. DOH!

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
never been to a big fight in vegas, but have been there before. the most obvious advice would be stay near the mgm. biggest surprise to me was just how big the strip is. just walking through/past one of the big casinos takes a while. we stayed at the stratosphere which is right at the other end of the strip to mgm so avoid there, otherwise its a taxi every night (there were eight of us so wasn't too bad)
nightlife is all personal preference, some of the lads enjoyed the big clubs but they werent really for me, if your with the missus i would suggest the piano bars. bit cheesy but good laugh. theres one in new york new york and harrahs that i know of. new york new york was the best casino for bars imo. also has a irish bar and coyote ugly bar. theres quite a few irish bars knocking around and im guessing most of them will be packed during the fight weekend

Thanks guys. I have been to Vegas a few times and even a fight previously (but just because I happened to be there and got tickets on the day - was Abril v Rios at Mandalay Bay). We were really lucky here as had booked the trip in August (way before the fight was announced). Really looking forward to it!
Haz our tickets are right at the back, you will probably have a better view of the fight on TV, and in Belfast the atmosphere will also be immense I would think!

That's what I was thinking but apparently it isn't being shown anywhere!

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Great timing and you are a lucky man with a wife that does that!!
I went for Calzaghe v Hopkins and one tip I would give is make sure you know the estimated start time. The fight started about 7:30pm local time which is obviously early for a main event in comparison to here but I guess being West Coast they need to accomodate East Coast and U.K. TV schedules. I was at my hotel when my mate text me asking about the fight saying it had started. I got there at the end of the 8th round!!!
Enjoy, great fight and you'll have an amazing time. Very jealous!!

Wife that thinks holidays in vegas are where it's at... and buys fight tickets. Sounds like the perfect woman. Does she look like a supermodel and have an oil magnate for a father?
Never done the Vegas thing, but consider me jealous on all counts.

Haz - there must be places showing it. Might be not much advertising yet because it is on regular sky (rather than SBO) and still over a fortnight to go?
Melv - thanks for this and you are absolutely right, they make it really clear on the ticket, the card starts at something like 4pm (and I want to see a fair bit of it)
Milky - no oil magnate history but she is the spitting image of Scarlett Johansson. I do realise how lucky I am!

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
I was there for Calzaghe v Hopkins and been there once before
Good if you like gambling and drinking I guess. Went clubbing one night which was a ok
I'm sure it will be good while the fight is on. Make sure you attend the weigh
The Calzaghe one was better than the actual fight
My only advice would be:
Be careful walking off the beaten track at night
If you go lapdancing do not play up
Some taxi drivers will try to rip you off
A call girl costs more than what it says on the advert
Other than that have a great time and enjoy it

I'm heading over for the fight along with a few mates. Have you your hotel booked yet?
Been to Vegas once before, but not for a fight only real advice I can give is if you intend on hitting any of the big clubs book in advance we just queued up the first night and were in the line for over an hour.

Milky - you're absolutely right mate so no more jealousy required !
Alan - we're at Luxor. Not too bad. Won't be up to much other than the fight on that day. we're arriving Friday morning and flying to LA Monday night so plenty of time for other stuff. As Melv mentioned earlier, make sure you don't miss anything. Start time is mega early local time. Might see you there. You'll recognise me by my Mrs ;-)

Apparently not due to start time (4-5 am)! There are no late licences in Belfast (and no casinos etc.). Saying that, we arrive in at 9:30 am and will likely hit the pubs just after lunch - so we'll never see 4am. I'm sure it will be repeated in the pubs next day.
I have a feeling he may lose a contentious decision.

Got a feeling Carl may get robbed on the cards so they can justify a third fight. Could happen, especially with Haymon involved.

I just think LSC will be a little better and Frampton will be more or less the same. The fight may be a shade tighter as a result, with rounds going to LSC due to his improvement. Don't think there'll be much between them. Can't wait.

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
I think Leo can start faster this time and is going to get in Carl's face from the get-go don't think he intends to give Carl as much room to work as last time. He'll have his dad for the training camp again and I think a more vocal support than in New York. It could be another close one really looking forward to it I enjoy Santa Cruz' perpetual motion style

We are currently booked into the Luxor too although keeping an eye on prices in the MGM so may change.
Arriving Thursday night so will make the weigh in.
Yeah seen on the tickets doors open at 2:30pm or something silly like that. Undercard looking pretty decent too. Looking forward to seeing Garcia v Zlaticanan

It's not such an easy one to call is it I think that's why people are looking forward to it?

It's a smashing card. You have to like Garcia but it's a good quality fight.

I must admit I've never seen Zlaticanan but some people are calling this Mikey's toughest test to date so if he dispatches him easily I guess that would be impressive

I think Frampton will have his work cut out for him in this. I suspect if the fight is any way close then Santa Cruz will get the decision in Vegas this time around. Theres also money all round for a trilogy.

I have a feeling that Frampton will win this one more convincingly. This is quite often the case in rematches. I would not bet anything on it though, and I can see most seem to feel differently on here, it's definitely a tough one to call !

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Carl's going to feel he has the ability to outbox Leo and will be looking to stick more to a game plan this time, Leo will be looking to negate Carl's slightly superior skill set with pressure. Not too complicated really! But should make for another very exciting fight. Lot on the line for Leo he doesn't really want to be losing two in a row at this stage of his career

The strip was buzzing this morning. Heading over now to ensure we catch most of the great undercard. Shame about Selby, normally the fight would go ahead without he belt at stake, was the guy like WAY over or something?

Zlaticanan ive only seen before beating burns who had a heavy 1st round knockdown and fought with a kind of scared approach for the duration, felt like if he was on form burns could have beaten him on points, id imagine garcia will be able to fight within himself here.

Cruz looking to box...Frampton looking for tear up...nice 1st Rnd for Cruz..1 up
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Id have 2nd 10-10 but if i have to edge to anyone its Cruz..2 up on Vegas cards id imagine

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Froch and Smith completely missing the left hook and two nice short uppercuts from Frampton in that round (seems they have their narative now)...good round for The Jackal...2-1 Cruz
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Frampton just nicking that for me..hes starting to control the ring now and making Cruz miss a lot.. 2-2..
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Frampton got to be careful when pulling back..trying to just bob and weave his way out a little too much.. very close round which couldnt split so even for me and even after 5 rounds
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Nice round from Frampton there, looked lovely on the inside with the short left followed by uppercut working nice. Made Cruz miss everything at end too..Frampton 1 up now
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Totally agree - he pulled it back the last two. LSC won the first two more convincingly but it's still 10-9 a round

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Personally have Leo up by one in the arena. Any idea of what Shane is saying in the corner between rounds?
Would personally be going he is telling him to stop dropping his hands the last 10--15 seconds of rounds.

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Frampton looks like he can go up another level and probably needs to now to pull away..i have him 2 up which seems against the consesus according to SKY/SHOWTIME. Feel like Carl is controlling the ring, landing the nicer shots. Cruz has the jab which has been nice and the last ten seconds he presses on which could cost Frampton
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Framptons round...nothing much in terms of clean punches from either but Carl now pushing Cruz back and Leos work rate dropped considerably- interesting enough Shane said Leo won the last one
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Big round from Cruz there, suddenly Frampton looks tired! Did the Shane comment have the wrong effect...carl looking lost coming back to corner there...i have Carl 1 up (possibly 2 have to actually go back and count)
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Even now...i do wonder whether the fact Carl is the one pushing Cruz onto the ropes may play a big factor in the scoring of this
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Cruz with big round...1 up and looks like this is going to be a trilogy!
Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Think Cruz has edged it; going to be another close call but seems we are heading for a 3rd fight..Carl seemed brilliant between the 3rd and 7th and then changed tactics again..when he backed off a little more in those rounds he took control but then he went back to trying to march Carl down.
One thing is for sure...3rd fight has to be in Ireland though!

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Gutted for frampton, scoring honestly i had lsc ahead by 2, he boxed much smarter which not many expected. Was pretty sure that he'd have gotten it even if it was close in framptons favour, theres been rubber match talk all week $$$

Re: Frampton v Santa Cruz II - Is anybody going?
Had it Santa Cruz by 3 - thought he fought a smart fight this time round and frampton had no answer. Would prefer the rubber match on neutral ground so there's no excuses if there's a dodgy decision.
Great to see frampton accepting the defeat with no excuses though - certainly makes me a bigger fan than I was before. Good start to the year
