Herschel Jantjies joins Scarlets
Herschel Jantjies has joined the Scarlets on a short term loan. I wonder if he will start ahead of Mike Phillips on Saturday.

Re: Herschel Jantjies joins Scarlets
The one wewk loan deal seams strange and maybe a bit dangerous. Fairplay to Scarlets when in need thinking outside the box.
But it does leavw it open it open to other teams abusing it. Could another team travelimg to SA in thier off season, sign the entire Sharks front row on a week long loan? Means they would have 3 less players to travel and give a rest. Also means they may get a very strong front row for a one off game.
I know that won't happen but it is possibly. I think there should be a minimal loan deal time frame of say a month or two months, just to make sure something like the above couldnt happen.
Think it would have helped Ulster when we were down to borrow (sorry 1 week loan) the stormers backrow for one game.

Firstly, you were lucky you didn't play the Cheetahs at their ground. Secondly, Scarlets injury issues at scrumhalf is well documented so this is totally different to Ulster cherry picking the Sharks front row...

Re: Herschel Jantjies joins Scarlets
Did Scarlets need special pernission to sign him on a one week loan? I actually like Scarlets outside the box thinking. But without controls this arrangement is open to abuse. Thats what I'm pointing out.
Whats preventing the next team going to SA signing Jantjies on a one week loan? Or a couple of big back rows?
Nothing is which is what I dont like about it.
Personally I think every team should name a squad of X number of players at start of the season and update maybe twice durning the year. Otherwise the big teams benifit by having a bigger squad and being able to afford higher quality medical jokers.

I understand the concerns over this, particularly when Super Rugby isn't on, it would be all too easy for the wealthier sides to cherry pick key players. I hope there is some sort of justification required for teams to be able to register short term players on loan.
