2017/18 Aviva Premiership Round Six
Friday, 6th October
Harlequins vs Sale (19:45)
Saturday, 7th October
Bath vs Worcester (15:00)
Exeter vs Newcastle (15:00)
Gloucester vs Northampton (15:00)
London Irish vs Leicester (15:00)
Sunday, 8th October
Saracens vs Wasps (15:00)
You want to see the team sheets these days, to see who is fit to take the field. Then again, not all the surprises so far are down to injury lists. All these matches probably have favourites but, with the possible exception of Bath against Worcester, the season results so far mean we shouldn't be surprised to see th e other team come out on top.

Re: 2017/18 Aviva Premiership Round Six
I would consider Bath, Exeter, Leicester, Saracens clear favourites
Wasps look a bit of a mess and for all the good results Newcastle have got cant see them winning at Sandy Park.
They are playing well but this is a different level
I'd also be fairly confident of Quins
The other game very interesting and the pick for me

If Gloucester play like they did last week, I can't see anything else but another BP win for Saints

True but to be honest Sale haven't looked great - last weeks result apart.
As for Gloucester a very different team at home than away - already beaten Exeter this year

He's been out of his depth from the start - sneaking a few results last season gave him a bit of breathing room. But a few more dodgy performances and the fans will turn on him again.Scottrf wrote:propdavid_london wrote:I'm not confident of a Quins win! They are so frustrating to watch....

I agree that his comments about the Sinks incident were incredibly reactionary.

Sale did look good last week, helped by three interception passes and some disinterested back three defending by Glaws. It could be a morale boosting win, same team this week and O'Connor on the bench again to offer impact and leadership. If Sale have gelled then they could revert to being a team that are very difficult to put away and then it's game on because Quins are as likely to score as concede on any given play at the minute.

Playing at home makes a big difference.
Only away side I think will win will be Leicester but there have some funny results this time round.

Re: 2017/18 Aviva Premiership Round Six
We're going to need to play very well to get anything this weekend. Good to see Tonks getting the start at 12 as he has been very good there when coming off the bench, but this is our 5th different centre pairing in 6 games so far this season, so whether it's going to gel or not is open to debate.
Petrus is lucky to keep the starting jersey as Ollie Hoskins has done well of the bench so far as well.

Good bit of rotation. Evans deserves his chance and Smith needed a break after his defensive heroics in recent weeks. Need to get Dan Cole off on half time or fifty minutes so he gets a little breather and Cilliers can get some minutes under the belt.

I was surprised with the LI scrum Oz, I thought it would be stronger. I think it's the first time we've had parity all season last week.

We were a lot stronger there before Hobbs-Awoyemi got injured and we've had to switch Franks to the loosehead side. I know he can and has played there, but he's been with us for 2 years and only played tighthead. du Plessis, apart from in the opening game against Quins has also not scrummaged brilliantly. I'm surprised he's starting this week.

Re: 2017/18 Aviva Premiership Round Six
Saints team looks interesting, Francis starting at 12, Mallinder still at 10 despite Myler being fit. Could be interchangeable, but I can't see how it is going to work.
Good to see Lawes getting a bit of rest, even if he is on the bench.
Feel a bit sorry for Ludlam, I thought he has looked very good when he has played. Lawes could have had a proper rest as both Gibson and Harrison can play across the back row.

Ahh so Flood is going to finally make an appearance.
Glad Willis is continued at FH as I think he's way better than Hodgson.
Ill be happy with a losing bonus point if we can get one....but I expect a defeat.
However i just want to add...I really want to see us going at Exeter. Playing the high tempo offloading game that we can play.

The Care kick is lovely but Robshaw was 100% holding on and should have been pinged after falling on the ball.

Re: 2017/18 Aviva Premiership Round Six
Having so many players on their feet in defence is only good if you're going to get off the line and pressure the opposition. Quins are winning all the collisions and are finding it too easy to achieve gain line success. Sale have to get after their half backs and hang on to the ball themselves if they wants some points.

Re: 2017/18 Aviva Premiership Round Six
Was a bit annoyed at Care forcing things too much at first but Sale's defence is so flaky it's working.
Dislocated shoulder for Clifford
Matthews seems to be going backwards, terrible hands and fitness is dreadful.

Re: 2017/18 Aviva Premiership Round Six
Care has tried the golden pass too often he just needs patience and the slow Sale defence is giving up easy yards. Sale defence coach should be going crazy, Quins have an age on the ball whilst Sale have so many defenders on their feet. They have to start using those numbers to blitz Quins playmakers.

That lineout is not straight but Care has an age to put that kick in. Who is in charge of the Sale defence and why do they still have a job?

There's so much space to aim at though because Sale are defending like a league team. Everyone is in the line. There's no pendulum system and no sweeper. You can't do that and have the line speed of a geriatric prop.

I think any team with ambition should be disappointed to not get 10 points vs Sale. They have some good pace in the back 3 but if you cut out silly errors they have nothing but mistakes.

There's plenty of talent there. The tactics are shocking. Away from home why are you playing wide and in your own half? How can you not compete at the breakdown but have no line speed?
Sale have barely been in the game but have three tries. The players can play. Too many league coaches at Sale?

Kicking the ball put of the 9s hands was a worse offence was wrse than anything that occurred in the scrap.
