Gennady Golovkin will make his debut on DAZN against unbeaten Canadian Steve Rolls at a 164lbs catch weight. This will first bout of 6 under GGG/DAZN partnership worth $100m

Rather surprisingly Golovkin decided to part from Sanchez after the pair had a disagreement over future payments now that GGG is earning around $16m per fight

Gennady Golovkin has announced Johnathon Banks as his new trainer. Banks was a protégé of the last Emmanuel Stewart and previously trained heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Gennady Golovkin beat Steve Rolls by 4th round KO at the Garden. The fight was at 164lbs catch weight, GGG was ripped at the weight something never seen at 160lbs.

Golovkin looked a little vulnerable early doors but there was some noteable changes in tactics. A lot more body shots not just the continual head hunting that Sanchez was a fan off.

Looks like GGG vs Canelo 3 in September, despite de la Hoya wanting GGG to fight Andrade.

I think it was Kell Brook who showed how easy it was to hit GGG.  Not sure whether GGG has done anything to tighten up his defences.

In this fight against Steve Rolls some say he introduced a new punch - the straight left downer hook to the top of the head - though some say he already had that in his armoury.  Despite getting caught with a few heavy single punches (which generally doesn't seem to have a lasting affect on GGG) - GGG eventually unlocked Rolls defences in the fourth for a well worked out knock out.

Gennadiy Golovkin(40-1-1 or 42-0) beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko(13-2) in a thrilling middleweight contest. Golovkin dropped Derevyanchenko in the first round. But the Ukrainian made GGG work very hard for the win. The scorecards read 114-113 115-112 115-112, Golovkin regaining the IBF/IBO titles.

You can see why no one wants to fight Derevyanchenko. GGG has aged and looks like maybe only a couple of fights left in him.

Callum Smith would stop GGG early..

No wonder he wants the blown up 154 pounder Canelo instead..

Fight Callum Smith and go outside his comfort zone for once..

Typical nonsense. Álvarez a ‘blown up light middleweight’ more like natural middleweight being s weight bully.

As for Smith, a 10 year career where his one noteworthy win was against Groves with one arm.

Smith another weight bully, 200lber hiding at 168 as he’s very mediocre

So mediocre that GGG won't step up to fight him, we all know who the real fraud is.

Smith’s mandatory is the juiced up Álvarez, but Oscar’s son looking to face damaged goods Kovalev instead.

I was surprised to see Derevyanchenko pushing GGG backwards from time to time especially towards the latter part of the fight.  GGG new trainer Jonathon Banks (hired May 2019) was very disappointed with GGG for taking the heavy punches of Derevyanchenko rather than avoiding them.  He said it seems like GGG enjoys these types of fights - you hit me I'll hit you back.  But Banks thinks GGG is not going to last much longer if he doesn't improve his defence and head movement. GGG is getting older (37) and the competition is getting "younger" and fresher. Derevyanchenko is 33 but with less miles in the clock. Canelo is 29.

Don't understand this. GGG has fought for his entire career at middleweight, but now he's regained a MW title, he has to "step up" to face a Super Middle nobody outside the UK has heard of (great achievements or not), when he could earn ten times the money against a far more accomplished Middleweight who is the only person to beat him. Ok...

GGG thinks he won both fights and feels aggrieved to have lost his titles. You could argue that Canelo deserved the win more in the 2nd fight, but not the draw in the first - that was GGG's fight. Why the hell wouldn't he go after his conqueror in order to regain what he thinks is rightfully his. Canelo will be up for it as I think he has ggg's number now. Too young, too much chin, too much gas now. But it'll set GGG up for life, whereas Smith would be a pittance by comparison. Smith needs GGG, not the other way round.

It's like saying Calzaghe ducked Roy Jones Jr at Super Middle when he didn't win his first title til 1997 when Jones was at LHW. Pointless argument.

Alvarez isn't going to be fighting at Middleweight again especially after fighting Kovalev at light heavyweight so GGG's only real option is to move up out of his comfort zone for a change. I'm not saying that he's ducking Smith but fighting yet more mediocre middleweights isn't doing anything for his career any more.

Are you sure?

I think you may have got your facts wrong

I saw a YouTube video at the weekend and he clearly says he intends coming back down to middleweight said with the right diet he could do it comfortably

Who knows though maybe you’re right and he’s just saying that

I want to see him or Golovkin fight Charlo or Andrade. The Kovalev fight would be so much more interesting if Alvarez would first prove himself the best middleweight in the world which he or Golovkin have never actually done

Not saying for sure but maybe Andrade would beat both Canelo and Golovkin? Can’t comment on Charlo as still haven’t seen him fight but suspect he’s run either one of them close too

The one thing thing you could say about Golovkin though is maybe he built his knockout reputation on lesser oppo- every time and I mean every single time he steps up.. Jacobs, Canelo, Derevyanchenko ie genuine top 5 contender.. the power is nowhere to be seen

Haven’t seen the Derevyanchenko fight yet but you could also argue he lost to both him and Jacobs

There isn't a chance that Alvarez bulks up to 175 then drops back down to 160, not a chance.

Who Alvarez?

He's running from Andrade and Charlo so fighting the far more dangerous Kovalev instead?

I don't see him as much of a threat in all honesty and is a far less risky fight to take than Kovalev, not sure how you can be accused of ducking someone by taking a riskier fight?

I'm not sure how many times it needs repeating but he's fighting Kovalev instead. Andrade has a big reputation based on a career of mediocrity, the only name he's ever beaten was Martirosyan many years ago.

Boxing will never recover till contenders from different organizations are mandated to fight each other

Charlo against Andrade what a good fight that is
