ROYAL ASCOT DAY ONE

Well children,the start of five days of the highest calibre racing that anyone could possibly require.All the glitz,glamour,pomp and ceremony and top class action rolled into one.Heres day one as the Nut sees it.

2.30 A so called match between Canford Cliffs and Goldikova,ive got it down as a mis match,Goldikova just isnt good enough,even the softening of the ground doesnt help her cause in my opinion.Shes a turning track,soft ground performer.Canford will just sit on her until late on and then have far too much for her going home.
3.05 Cracking renewal of this with challengers for all parts.Hope they go "over quick" as this will suit a real five furlong specialist in the shape of Sole Power.You need luck in running as always in these big field charges and theres always the effect of the draw but given a level playing field then surely he wont be far away.
3.45 Frankel....end of.
4.25 Two year old event .........bottle of Moet and relax in the shade...watch some of the posh totty go by
5.00 Humdinger of staying handicap,plenty with chances but a "notebook" horses appears in the shape of Zigato.Won round here first up and showed a real potent weapon for a stayer... a change of pace.If young Buick can get he settled early doors then im sure he can pick his way through in the straight.
5.35 Two year old race....another bottle of Moet and one last look at the posh fillies.

got to agree with you about Canford Cliffs.
i know Goldikova has this great winning record but the way Canford Cliffs has won here twice at the Royal meeting already plus a top class performance to win the Sussex Stakes makes him a worthy favourite I think.

no idea who will win the King's Stand this year. I just wonder if Overdose may have the right ground though? another of the overseas entries that I like the look of is Bridgetown but I wont be betting much in this race.


Frankel looks a class apart in the main feature - my 1 concern is if the Guineas has taken more out of him than was thought but at the same time where is the danger? I don't see any to be honest, as much as I have supported Wooton Basset and Dubawi Gold in the past.

I quite like 2 year old races but not the Coventry. It is an absolute minefield. Having been impressed by Fulbright at Epsom though I may have a little each way at a big price.

I still think Junior is the 1 to beat in the 5.00, but Buick's horse certainly will be a danger. In the last can Wesley Ward do it again? Gentlemans Code could be very interesting.

Basically though tomorrow is as good a days flat racing as you will see all season and if Frankel wins in style possibly one of the finest days ever seen at Royal Ascot. And it may be the only day the sun shines
