Post by Adam D Wed 22 Jun 2011, 5:38 pm

To start with, I hate my local Sainsburys with a passion (the Kirkintilloch one). Its run by unhelpful management who always seem to overcharge me on my bill. But thats another story.

I found this on the net - and it makes me forgive Sainsburys at head office level. I hope that we can all take a little bit of this away into our day to day lives....

I think I've got bad enough handwriting that I could send a letter like this, may have to target Tesco though.

Asda has got to be the worst super market in the whole wide world.
The have no clue about 2 different prices for the same items, they have no clue why it say special offer on the shelf and "no special price" at the check outs, they have no clue, why the quality of their bakery products is so awful, there is no aroma in or around the bakery.

and Asda is the only one, I have experienced over charging, BUT the winner is Morrison's, since giving up on Asda I have been a faithful Morrison's customer, even prior to that I have been on and off with Morrison's, never ever experienced 2 prices, every thing is so neatly shelved, you have bigger choices on every item, when once over charging happened with a special offer stuff, the top manager was so apologetic, he him self got involved in sorting the mess out.

Like most things I used to complain a lot about the supermarkets in Britain. However, after living for a period abroad I can tell you that the supermarkets are much more customer friendly in Britain than there Italian counterparts. Customer service here means the customer serving the shop and being grateful for having the priviledge of doing so.

They're rubbish! I find their stores have too much of their own brands so there's not much range, and the two times I've tried their home delivery service they've messed up the order. They do it in a bizarre way as well, like they'll deliver 15 avocados when I didn't order any at all. Rolling Eyes

as long as you enjoy (the free) avocados, but there is nothing worse than Asda, I am shocked where they get that claim " voted the cheapest supermarket of Britain year after year" ??
who decides this title?? I dont, you dont.

Re Asda

My wife is a bit fastidious and you know the Asda cheapest etc well they do a price comparison with an independant company and they will refund your money. It is dead easy to use, all you need to do is quote your receipt number.
She averages out about £1.50 a week. refund on around a £40 check out price. [£70 a year saved]
A bit sad I know but she does it for the principle not the money [she tells me].

saving may be, but Asda's quality is awful, you take their own bakery produce to milk produce, they are not good quality at all.

We don't have Tesco, Asda, Morrison's or Sainsbury's here. Lots of M&S and Waitrose for the snobs. Co-Op for everyone else.

Co Op is severely under rated - yes its expensive (you pay for the convenience) but the actual food quality is very good (especially the fresh bread).

If you get over charged at Asda 9even by 1p) they give you a £2 gift card.

Bought my holiday books with the ones I amassed over the last year two weeks ago - £20 worth (although the wife was suitably embarassed that I gave over 10 x £2 gift cards!)

Everything is expensive here. You can't get a loaf of bread for under £1.50.

Lady Doon generally goes ballistic on Supermarket pricing.
Advice to all is to look at the small print on the pricing lables this tells you the price per unit.
The 'Special Offers' are sometimes very misleading.
EG~ Special offer on a big packet of widgets is more expensive than two unspecial smaller packets which weighs more.

Doon I always check price per 100g to make sure it's the best choice.

Also at Tesco if you buy 6 seperate cans of baked beans, it's cheaper than a 6 pack of baked beans.

Derbyblue - you're correct, it's right at the end of the advert I saw today. It wasn't on the others I'd seen. Must be back by popular demand.

What's the obsession Iceland have with mums? Can't dads go to the supermarket or what?

What's their obsession with "famous" mums, why would anyone go to Iceland just because Stacey Soloman does, or because Kerry Katona did? Maybe dads aren't allowed into Iceland?

correct, that is the thing every one need to check, price per gram, per litre, per ml. etc, but the manufacturers are too crafty, look at the price of multi pack beer, they so cleverly keep on changing the sizes of bottles, from the original 340ml to 300ml to 275ml, and even 250ml, customers hardly notice the small change in contents.

I was in ASDA in Irvine yesterday and the young man operating the self service checkouts did not have any hands.
He was brilliant at his job and faster than others I have come across.
Good for him and for ASDA.

PS
Am I the only one who finds the automated female voice who keeps telling me what to do at the self check outs really annoying?

Those self-service checkouts are hypocritical. You're encouraged to use your own bag so you bring it along and then when you go to use it, the electronic woman's voice starts panicking saying she doesn't recognise it and you must remove it from the bagging area!

Why isn't the check out a man's voice too?

They can't do that because if I went on holiday to Geordieland or the East End of London I would not understand what they are talking aboot.

Doon - you could choose your regional accent. In Wales you can choose Welsh language or English so they could add a few buttons like Glasgae, Geordie etc. Same principal Smile
