Skins haven't brought in 5 WR's on FA. We've signed Stallworth and traded for Gaffney. Stokley changed his mind after the Gaffney trade (after talking with Shanny).

Typically the lockout ends whilst I am on holiday without internet access so am frantically trying to catch up with the skins activity. Have we spent big on anyone?

Chicago Bears sign RB Marion Barber who joins other ex-cowboys Williams and Hurd. Raiders also sign FA QB Trent Edwards and the bengals sign Nate Clements.

Not from what I've seen. Articles seem to indicate we're looking at solid productive team players instead of going gaga over big names. Cofield is a solid pick up for DL, and given his work ethic will hopefully be the NT we wanted Fat Al to be. Stallworth and Gaffney give us weapons to take the focus off Moss and with Armstrong and Hankerson (should he work out) 5 WR's that we can use to spread the field with Cooley and Davis. Shanny likes to use his backs in the passing game, so I'm interested to see if they can develop Helu or go after a back a little later in FA. I wouldn't have been averse to seeing Barber picked up. Something tells me Shanny's looking at drafting a franchise QB and RB tandem next year, and this year is about giving them a team to slot into.

Re: Team by Team Offseason Breakdown
Skins shipped Holliday and a draft pick to Cards for Hightower. Not sure this gives us the backfield we ideally wanted, but if Helu sticks, and Torain stays healthy, Hightower offers us a rotation while Helu shows if he can be an NFL back.

Quietly impressed with the Chargers if I'm honest.
Only special teams killed them last year and the additions of Spikes and getting VJax/Weddle/Tolbert to re-sign plus having agreed deals with most (if not all) rookies, they'll have to be favs to take the West but whether they have what it takes to get past the Pats, Ravens, Steelers or Jets is debatable.

Yeah I have a feeling that Shanny will become besotted with Luck, which would be excellent. He was really really sold on Bradford but obviously couldn't get him at 4 last season. There was no point drafting a qb this year as the class was shaky and people got taken early due to uncertainty with the lockout, glad we didn't waste a pick when the qb would have had his confidence smashed out of him due to our lack of an offensive line!
I really like the look of Helu from what I have seen and reports I have read. Hopefully we can develop a couple of draft picks this season to give the new QB some weapons, plus start to solidify our defence. Signings like Atogwe (albeit before the start of the lockout) and colfield should set us in the right direction. Still think our defence will require a couple of solid drafts and FAs before we return to a top 10 defence.

Don't think we will go after a RB in next years draft unless we have made mistakes. We have Torain (depends on his fitness, and he is already injured), if Hightower manages to work well in our system, if Helu or Royster convert in NFL sucess. But i think it is far to early to say he is going after a RB next season when he drafted 2 and traded for 1 this year.

Re: Team by Team Offseason Breakdown
Plus Shanny has a history of bringing through late round running backs into 1000 yard season players. I like the look of Torain when fit but he is always picking up little niggles which seem to occur due to lack of playing which has a hint of vicious circle. Don't know much about Royster. To be honest I wouldn't be suprised if Shanny is gone before the end of the season as Synder is due a stupid decision as he hasn't made one for a while...

Re: Team by Team Offseason Breakdown
I like the Skins' offseason moves so far - too many holes to fill in one year so am realistic about what we can do this year and I like the fact we've brought in a couple of younger, hungrier guys on the D-Line (Cofield and Bowen) to add to the boy Jenkins that we drafted. Of course there's Kerrigan too so I'm hopeful we've really upgraded the defensive front 7. I like the O-Line changes and the additions of Chester and Locklear (who I confess I don't know much about but he's been a regluar starter for Seattle so should add decent depth). Still think we're light on O-Linemen though and that will be a killer again as the year goes on but like I say, Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.
As for WR and RB - no idea what will happen here. Torain is too injury prone to be a reliable starter and Hightower too fumble-prone. Hightower is very durable though and a great receiver. Who knows what we've got in Helu - who knows, he might be a star! I'm not sure Royster makes the team. At WR, who knows what will happen here! Moss and Gaffney make the team. Most likely Hankerson and Armstrong too. I'm not convinced Stallworth makes the final cut if Paul shows up well in training camp. Might depend on whether Banks stays or not as the return man or whether they think someone else can do that - maybe the new boy Josh Wilson? He's been a return man in the past. Should we mention Malcolm Kelly in the WR equation? Or are we figuring he's finally done? I noticed he sat out some of last week with some kinda sore leg!
Then's there the QB question................ now that should give us all a good laugh!!

Who is DRC that the Eagles have traded in?
I'm pretty happy with their signings I have to say. Nnamdi Asomugha is a good signing. Gives us a very strong pairing at cornerback.

Re: Team by Team Offseason Breakdown
From what I've seen written up, Helu should suit Shanny's 1 cut zone blocking scheme, but Royster is debatable as he lacks the speed to make it big as an NFL back. Still they said that about Riggins...
I don't think Shanny is gone. The new build with youth approach seems to be improving team chemistry (no prima donna's) and even if we only have 4-6 wins this season, we should be in a much better shape going into the draft next year. In fact, finishing 2011/12 with the #1 draft pick may not be a bad thing in the long run!

I see we have signed Ronnie Brown and Vince Young as well. A lot of interesting movement in Phillie.

Re: Team by Team Offseason Breakdown
I like Banks and from what I hear Shanny is sold on his version of events on the stabbing so I reckon he will be the return guy this year. His performances last year were positive on the pitch if not off it!
Just to clarify my statements about Shanny, I don't think he will be fired yet but I was just saying that we are due a stupid bum moment from Synder at some point and it hasn't come in the draft with the likes of Mallett nor in free agency a la haynesworth! Who knows maybe he has actually turned a new leaf and will let shanny do his stuff!
I wouldn't mind a bad season if we got first pick, doubt 2-5 would land us Luck and I'm not that clued up on any of the other prospects so far.
As far as we have done this off season I agree that having a much younger feel is great and the guys do seem to be gelling as a team which must be a new feeling! As Orakpo says we must be the most boring team in the league but that suits us just fine!
I really liked Armstrong this season and he deserves another go, with Moss and Gaffney being solid we would need some productivity from Hankerson, I too reckon Paul will get in there too. The less we mention about Kelly the better!
John Beck is without doubt a franchise QB, not sure why we aren't paying him top bucks and why people are finding it funny...

Be careful what you wish for. How many QB's have been in the NFL for a couple of years and then seen their careers take off after being written off as journeymen. Though I agree, Grossman is a stop gap not a solution.

Is there any chance we could ban the name Andrew Luck from the board until the build up to next years draft?
He is constantly talked about by so many fans and analysts yet no-one has any idea how he will do in the Pro's, who will have a chance of getting him and whether anyone will even want him until February of next year. The constant chatter about him being the second coming of Christ is starting to get to me.

Being a fan of a Pac 10 (now Pac 12) team, I've seen Luck play and he'll probably be the real deal. He's got athleticism, good mechanics, intelligence (he goes to Stanford, a premier academic school), good decision making, leadership skills, and supposedly has an excellent work ethic. He's definitley in the mold of another Stanford QB who was a can't miss prospect -- John Elway. With no reputation whatsoever to risk as an NFL analyst, I'm predicting franchise QB.
If he fails, someone obviously hacked my account to post the views expressed in this post.

Re: Team by Team Offseason Breakdown
I'm not doubing that he looks the real deal but what happens if he gets a serious injury this year. Da'quan Bowers was talked about as a number one pick during last year, one operation later he falls to the late second round.
Jake Locker would have probably been picked ahead of Sam Bradford if he had declared a year earlier. A year later and all kind of doubts surrounded him. So much so that it was considered a major shock when he went in the top 10.
Anything could happen between now and the 2012 draft.

Yeah, a lot of people were enamored with Locker before he decided to remain in school, but there were thoughts about his shortcomings, they just didn't get much air time.
True you can't account for a future injury, but as of now, he looks like the complete package.
But we'll see how it pans out.
