Faking injuries Empty Faking injuries

Here's an interview with the Fox broadcast crew, former Dallas head coach Jimmy Johnson and Hall of Famers Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw on players faking injuries and what the league is possibly going to do about it. They also discuss a few other things like the explosion in passing yards.

Interesting take on it, i agree that itl be difficult to enforce but as he mentions with the early discussions with agents if they cath someone and lay down a severe punishment it could deter other teams doing it

simple solution, the 'injured' player can't return until the end of that current drive

They were talking about this on the ESPN Football Today podcast, someone said mentioned about the player having to sit out the rest of the current drive.

Ross Tucker the host and former Offensive Lineman said that this would be a start but he felt it would not have any real affect in stopping this happen. With so many rotations on the Defensive Line, coaches will nominate one of his lineman to go down as they won't be missed as much during the drive and gain in getting the game stopped would well outweigh losing one of their guys.

There was suggestions that the player could be sat out the rest of the quarter as that would be a bigger "penalty". My problem with this is what happens to players who are genuinely hurt? First play of the quarter there could be a hit on a QB (or any other ) that draws a flag but also makes the QB sit out a couple of snaps. Under the “out for the quarter” rule, he would not be allowed back into the game, thus his team is being penalised for doing nothing wrong!

This is a problem that is going to be hard to stamp out, once sanctions are introduced to wipe it out teams will just get more cute in the way they go about the fake injury. I am not saying that is a reason not to introduce penalties, it’s just I think it’s going to be very hard to prove.

Its unenforcable. All a player has to do is to claim he has cramp.

When the league is trying to reduce injuries, they can't really make this work.
