Not sure to be honest. Firstly I found it strange that boxing news reported it before the usual suspects (Fat Dan etc). Secondly, I think they would move it before cancelling it.

Hope it goes ahead two guys whose styles gel beautifully, however get the feeling Margarito is gonna steamroller him in the latter rounds again, Not sure Miguel can fight at a constant pace.

Interesting in that Cotto says it's not worth putting his health on the line in the ring in the way Margarito did vs Pacquiao.

I don't know why so many dislike Kellerman. I think he's a massive asset to HBO.

Thanks scott, I think thats the best face-off that i've seen yet. Reaffirms my belief that margery had loaded wraps for Cotto. Max seemed to catch him out, by saying "how would you know that they weren't loaded, when you say that you didn't notice in the Mosely fight"

Really hope Cotto does a number on him.

New York State Athletic Commission are being appealed by Arum so that Marg can fight in the New York State area, I think the hearing is on the 18th of this month.

yeah that was the main section of the film, im with cotto. he may be a boxer, but he's got a family. he'd be a Tinkywinky to say he'd die in the ring.

its a pride thing for marg, and it nearly left him blind when he was getting his arse handed to him by manny.

God I hope cotto destroys that slime bag. Don't think he's got the stamina or the strength for it though - cotto has shown fragility in the ring, marg may be many things, but in fairness he is a hard man - plus he has a psychological edge.

Best face off I've ever seen. Genuine tension between the two. It's really good to hear Cotto talking in English. He seems like a really good guy. It really does seem obvious that Tony is hiding something, but, as someone mentioned above, I just don't think he really cares. The guys an animal - great trait in a boxer, terrible in a person.

Really want Cotto to pull this one out of the bag, certainly has the ability but his last few performances have been very laboured which plays into Marg's hands. Hopefully the Margerito factor really stokes up that fire in Cottoa and he shows us some vintage Cotto!. Would be a great end to the cheat affair.

Cheers Scott.

There seems to be some severe spice between these 2.

I have to say - Kellerman handled this quite well. Must've been tough for Cotto not to start attacking him.

Margarito's eye isn't perfect. I'd love to know how his vision is.

Cotto a decent honest pro against a dishonest cheat,Margarito who is a disgrace to all the great Mexican boxers who have fought.
Hope Cotto still has enough left in him to deal with this clown and do everyone in boxing a favour.

Perhaps the fight fans who on here who are cheering Margarito on should read about the Luis Resto v Billy Collins jr fight and what happens when you tamper with gloves not just in the fight but the impact after,Margarito should have been banned for life.

Cotto-Margarito Face Off, First Fight, First Fight Highlights, Ring Life and 24/7 Ep 1&2 Empty Re: Cotto-Margarito Face Off, First Fight, First Fight Highlights, Ring Life and 24/7 Ep 1&2

Post by AlexHuckerby Fri Nov 18, 2011 3:42 am

Hey guys some news on Cotto - Marg and what's happening...

Bob Arum is furious with the New York State Athletic Commission and chairperson Melvina Lathan over what appears to be an imminent denial in Antonio Margarito's application for license to box in the state, which is sending the scheduled December 3 Cotto vs Margarito rematch west. From Jake Donovan at BoxingScene.com:

"The commission completely sandbagged us. During their testimony, Melvina Lathan – the commissioner – turns around and says, 'Don’t believe them; they’re lying.' This woman who knows nothing says that the two leading ophthalmologists are lying. A building that is 90% sold out and they’re going to pull this."

As the New York commission has denied request for comment, we're getting only the Top Rank side of the story right now, and frankly speaking, it appears as though Arum has a legit complaint, but there are two sides to this.

Margarito's eye, opthamologist testimony or not, is in questionable shape at best. Good enough for some commissions, apparently not good enough for New York. The NYSAC is a very strict commission. Other commissions -- Arum says Texas, Colorado and Mississippi -- will let this pass, but there are also commissions out there who licensed Tommy Morrison (West Virginia) in the last decade, too.

One commission licensing Margarito does not mean all of them will, or that all of them should, or even that any of them should. Israel Vazquez fought in California with a bad eye last year. Didn't go well. Not all commissions are created equal, to say the least, and New York is known for taking a hard line on medical issues. Texas, on the other hand, is not. Texas re-licensed Evander Holyfield after Holyfield had his taken away in New York, and they also licensed Edwin Valero despite his having a brain bleed due to a motorcycle accident, earlier in his career. I also think Jermain Taylor would have had a tough time making his upcoming comeback if he'd targeted New York.

BUT!

If the NYSAC only recently gained knowledge of Margarito having eye surgery this year -- which is the only good explanation for why they would allow Margarito and Top Rank to apply for a license late in the game, why Lathan and thus the commission would support the September 20 press conference in New York (Lathan attended), and why they allowed for tickets to be sold to the Madison Square Garden show -- then why didn't they know more? Infrequent readers of boxing web sites knew that Margarito had eye surgery this year for bad injuries. Wasn't anyone on top of this?

This is a situation that just doesn't happen often. There will be an official announcement made tomorrow as to whether or not Margarito will be licensed by New York, but the odds aren't looking good at all, and if Arum is bold enough to make the statements he's making, then it's almost a lock that New York isn't licensing Margarito, and Arum is trying to find a new venue immediately.

Another possible consequence here: Big-time boxing has been largely absent in New York thanks to a lot of factors, notably the taxes on fighters' purses, and this may make Top Rank reluctant to go back any time soon.

Cotto-Margarito Face Off, First Fight, First Fight Highlights, Ring Life and 24/7 Ep 1&2 Empty Re: Cotto-Margarito Face Off, First Fight, First Fight Highlights, Ring Life and 24/7 Ep 1&2

Post by AlexHuckerby Fri Nov 18, 2011 3:51 am

Oh and by the way Margarito was licensed in Texas yesterday so most likely the fight will be moved there...

http://www.badlefthook.com/2011/11/17/2569723/cotto-vs-margarito-antonio-margarito-licensed-texas-cowboys-stadium

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated has more on the ongoing saga that is the Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito rematch, scheduled for December 3. According to Mannix, Texas licensed Margarito this morning, which may point to the fight being moved to Cowboys Stadium or San Antonio, as previously rumored.

Margarito (38-7, 27 KO) is likely being denied his license in New York, which hasn't been made official yet, but making it official is about all that remains. If Top Rank believed that Margarito would be licensed in New York after yesterday's closed-door hearing, they wouldn't have gone to Texas at all, and all of these venue rumors wouldn't be floating.

For those wondering why New Jersey, which is of course next door to New York, isn't being considered, it's pretty simple. Jersey may simply not want to make a spectacle of licensing a fighter that New York won't. It could be a political move. Crossing the New York commission wouldn't help them out in any way, and frankly, the medical concerns about Margarito are probably very legitimate.

This all should have been sorted out a long time ago, at any rate. The fight looks like it has to move, HBO is reportedly furious over all of this (and rightly so), and Texas appears the likely destination.

I wonder how Miguel Cotto feels about all of this? MSG was supposed to be his home field, and he's losing that.

Interesting stuff! HBO could be in a real huff with NYASC due to this and Top Rank will no doubt hold a massive grudge due to this also, so the East Coast could see a massive drop in big fights (Even more so than they are now)

They've made him up to look like one of the Mexican villains from a spaghetti western. Its amazing.

Margacheato should be allowed, nay, forced into this fight even if he's half blind so Cotta can dish out the resptrospective punishment his crimes deserve. The fact he's been allowed to build on these crimes to add millions to his bank balance is one of the biggest disgraces in boxing today.

Antonio Margarito is the victim in all of this

Agrees to take on proven drug cheat Shane Mosley. Incompetent trainer Javier Capetillo arrives late and applies illegal hand wraps. Tony has no knowledge of this and after losing to the proven drug cheat gets banned due to Capetillo's idioticness. Tony disgusted by Capetillo cuts all ties with him

The Boxing Commision ban Capetillo in the US but realising their mistake with Tony allow him to come back and make a living by fighting in the sport he has given so much to providing he agrees to take on Manny Pacquiao...a boxer who makes a living off fighting weight drained opponents and Mayweather leftovers. Pacquiao is also a fighter who refuses random drug testing

Tony takes a beating from the smaller fighter. He suffers damage to his face. Tony has been in the ring with much bigger punches from other fighters...but some how Pacquiao manages to break a major bone. How is this? Videos out since show that Pacquiao may have been using loaded gloves. Tony being the true warrior goes the distance though

Tony agrees to a rematch with Miguel Cotto. Cotto uses dirty psychological warfare during the buildup. Calling Tony names such as "criminal" and "liar". All this because Tony took away his unbeaten record. Cotto accuses Tony of using loaded gloves. Even though one of his own staff went into the room and watched the gloves being wrapped. Now all of a sudden Cotto claims that no one from his camp went in and checked...yeah right...very convenient Miguel

So best wishes to a brave warrior who has put his health on the line to give us all great fights

Not sure how you want Marg to win, i guess you've never watched the Pinto documentary or appreciate what he carried in his gloves?

Side note, what's happened to trash talk? I can't be held responsible this time as i was too busy getting interviewed by the biggest digital agency in the world.

Congratulations on your interview! Hope it went well. There's an announcement regarding trash talk at the top of the page.
