Roy Jones Jr : Max Is Going Down!

Roy Jones Jr. is fired up and confident ahead of his Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title fight on December 10 against Max Alexander. They will clash at the Atlanta Civic Center, and live on Internet Pay-Per-View on ustream.com.

“I am ready and I am sharp. I have a whole new plan. I’m gonna shock the world with my agility and skill level”, said Jones (54-8, 40 KOs) recently during his preparations for the UBO Championship bout.

The former four-division world champion has a new co-trainer in his corner in Tom Yankello, and warmed up for the Alexander-fight with an exhibition bout against Heavyweight prospect Bobby Thomas Jr. (11-1, 8 KOs) this past Wednesday Nov. 23 in Pittsburgh.

Against Thomas, Jones displayed some of the flashy moves that once helped make him the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and sources within the Jones-camp report that the now 42-year-old future Hall-Of-Famer is once again looking like his old self, after some below par performances in recent outings.

Max Alexander (14-5-2, 2 KOs) has publicly declared that he plans to knock Jones out within six rounds, and even said the promoters wouldn’t have to pay him his purse if he didn’t. At a press conference last week Jones was asked what round he is going to end the fight, and stated:

“In the first round that Max slips, that’s the round he is going down. That may be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or even the 10th. But, whenever it is, I will knock him out in the first round that he slips, I am ready!”

So, it appears that both boxers are hell-bend on knocking each other out. Jones promises that it will be the start of the greatest comeback in boxing history, and Alexander claims he will send the living legend into retirement. It remains to be seen who will come out on top, but it promises to be an interesting evening in Atlanta on December 10.

If Jones keeps going it's going to cost him his job with HBO. No one wants to listen to a man slurring their words and getting confused live on air.

When you look at the UBO's list of champions, every single one, you go "who"?

I think RJJ's job will become compromised, should he lose as you can't really have an active fighter getting beaten by cans criticising other fighters losing to much better opposition!

This is beyond sad... My god, just reading those quotes about how he's looking back to his old self in training make me cringe. He's going to shock the world... My god, this isn't even on TV it's an internet PPV, who will pay for this!?!?

I hope RJJ gets KO'd so he retires. Frankly him fighting this level of opposition is embarassing to him and boxing fans who will actually pay for this farce.

At least Leb had some form and is a probable cruiserweight champion.

Anderson has only 2 KO's from his 14 wins and hasn't won in his last six, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see Roy lying on the floor again.

Sadly I actually think Roy might win this one, the guy he's facing is god awful, he is of course god awful now himself but think this has been picked so Roy can pick up a W.

Perhaps Roy just wants to go out on a win and as a "champion".

A win could be even worse for Roy he might start believing he's found his mojo again and keep going.

Spot on you should never try and apply logic to delusion, if the likes of the Green or Lebedev fight did not send the message loud and clear to Roy that his time has passed, never to return it is not likely to happen in this one irrespective of what happens.

I wasn't being serious just hopeful that is what might be going through his mind. Doubt it though. I actually like him on HBO, don't know why he won't stick to that instead.

Selling off his mansions, five Lambourghinis and two luxury yachts in order to pay off his debts and then downsizing to a nice three bed detached in the Florida suburbs, with a well-paid HBO gig to supplement his income, would seem a better alternative to getting your brains smashed in every few months in my opinion - but what do I know!?

Spot on Chris, this is what I don't get, were Jones to retire you would have to think he would walk into a job as a colour commentator, add into that the memorabillia and "evening with" market and struggle to see how he would fail to end up with a pretty decent six figure income, appreciate it may not be what he is used to but is a damned sight more dignified and safe than how he is making his living now.

Rowley remembers radio commentators - the true old masters. Now they were more skilled and all round infinitely superior to today's dross.

Was easier back in the good old days. You had the BBC champion and the ITV champion, and that was it. Now you have those two as well as the Sky Sports champion, PrimeTime champion, BoxNation champion...Even fans are unsure who the real commentary champions are these days!
