Marquez joins long list of top fighters struggling to find opponents

Today we discovered Marquez will fight unknown Argentinian Cesar Rene Cuenca (42-0) but with just 1 KO. JMM is just coming off another superb display against the supposed p4p best and a large percentage of boxing fans felt he won. Now he finds himself dropping down many levels for his next fight. The Peterson fight fell through as did the Manny rematch andd as it stands no-one is interested in JMM as an opponent.

Martinez is having similar problems having to fight lower opponents in Barker and Macklin as he waits for a big name fight.

Then there is fighters such as Rigondeax, Golovkin, Matthyse, Pirog, Silakh and Gamboa who are trying desperately to lure the big names but are failing as they fall into the high risk, low reward category

He done a similair thing before Pacquiao fighting Likar Ramos. 42-0 with one knockout is quite something though.

I heard a rumour somewhere that Marquez was looking to fight David Diaz... though I'm not sure what truth there was in that.

It's a shame though. A guy like Marquez, who has done what he has done in his career, is overshadowed.

Although the fight wouldn't prove anything, the biggest and best option for him would be to fight Morales in May. Huge Mexican draw during their national holiday. It would earn both a massive payday.

Perhaps JMM can fight Mosley after Shane gets beaten by Alvarez and STILL decides he's a big name attraction. Then after being beaten by Marquez, Shane can travel to the UK and get battered by Kell Brook

I think its dreadful that these fighters who are the best in their divisions are not getting the shot they deserve

Don't be giving Mosley any ideas Dave. I'm absolutely fine with the Alvarez fight mainly because it's an undercard fight. The only other card he should be topping would be the likes of Kell brook in the UK, other than that he needs to start fighting down the card. If he beats Alvarez we're in trouble.

I think people are a little put off after his performance against Pacquiao.

Its a decent match up; but i would hve much preffered Canelo vs Kirkland

God Almighty, Kirkland was flattened in his comeback and in all kinds of trouble last time out. It's only a matter of time before he's given another beating followed by another spell in prison. May as well hope for Pavlik to turn the clock back.

Forget Kirkland and put Alvarez in with Erislandy Lara

but this is only the case in the early 1/2 round, he takes 10X harder shots in the later rounds and doesn't flinch....

Well that goes without saying but my point was if the Ishida fight is a true valuation of his chin he should not go anywhere near heavyweights

Maybe the Ishida fight was more a reflection on the quality of his opposition prior to that bout

Well he's just after KOing the No.1 ranked WBC Angulo...I just have a feeling Kirkland will prove alot of people wrong

Hmmm Marquez opponent is a southpaw and a light-welter. He might be keeping busy waiting for Marquez Pacquiao IV to happen.

1. Keep himself at the light-welterweight limit,
2. Keep himself fresh (fight isn't exactly going to be a war) so he won't lose a step
3. Fighting a southpaw.
