Lads, I have been wanting Hoolahan in the side since he was playing in Ireland and then when he was at Blackpool. You don't understand how Trap works, you're lucky. Wes should get in absolutely but he won't. Trap doesn't want flair in his centre mids. Whelan is a very solid player but I would have McCarthy or Hoolahan with him.


Ireland actually have better players that do not play. It's one of the reasons I'm not a huge Trap fan.

But surely Trap should change his formation to accomadate his better players. It would be like Hodgson not picking Rooney or Gerrard because they don't fit his formation or style

That's not the Trap way, I will give 20e to any charity if Hoolahan makes the squad. He is just too conservative. It suits Ireland in some ways, there not really capable of playing like a Spain/Holland/Germany. The way Ireland play works so he won't change it. He is also pretty loyal to the original guys who got him to the Euros. It's why McClean (another cracking former LOI talent) is probably the only new guy in there. Despite the likes of Ian Harte,Ciaran Clark and Hoolahan playing very well.

Who are the usual midfielders who are in the squad then? Surely you would take Hoolahan to give you another way of playing, plus he works very hard. Always one of the top 5 in terms of covering distance in a match

I want Hoolahan in there, a lot of people do. Midfielders in the squad are usually something like McCarthy, Whelan, Andrews, Fahey(winger and centre mid), Gibson. Sometimes Paul Green gets in

Hoolahan is a hard worker but all of those guys bar Fahey are primarily defensive which is what Trap likes, not my view but he won't change the formation so that's how it's going to go down.

He is not the Irish messi. He is the reincarnation of Liam Brady. I want Wes to go but I doubt he will. If he got there he wouldn't get a game.
