Bowlers getting us out of trouble yet again! At some point we will have to score some runs though. Not over yet though.

Re: t20 cup
Essex 111-9 off their 20.
We win by 17 runs.
Good performance from the spinners and Batty in particular.
As Carrot commented above, we shouldn't be fooled by the win - most seem to agree we were 25 short of a par score. The batting must improve if we are to be serious T20 challengers.
CF - bad luck, mate. Your bowlers put you in a good position but your batsmen blew it! Two dreadful run outs by all accounts.

Re: t20 cup
Surrey using same approach as last season - bowling four or even five spinners in a match. Worked again, with Ansari, Batty and Spriegel all going at 5 an over, and Kartik at just over 4.
I didn't see or hear any of the match - puzzling as to why Essex fell apart quite so badly unless pitch was low slow turner....
At last Water Carrier got to play for Surrey and did a solid job.

Meaker in for Dernbach is the only Surrey change. BTW, where's KP? I thought he was going to be available for T20?

Good post, JimBob.
A middle order of the Brain, Spriegel and Wilson at 4,5 and 6 looks a bit light and lacking the power to accelerate. Even though we won last night, our batting wasn't impressive.
That said, Spriegel and Wilson currently holding it together ....

Re: t20 cup
Wilson and Spriegel doing a fine job for Surrey tonight, both on their highest T20 scores and 100+ partnership! By no means a brilliant total though but more defendable than last night and we won that one, over to you bowlers!

Re: t20 cup
A very good recovery by Wilson and Spriegel although not a certain winning total by any means.
The Brain's place must be in doubt when Winegums comes down from the naughty step.
As Carrot says, it's now up to the bowlers ....

Middlesex 53-1 off 6. They're above the run rate and surely are too savvy to muck things up from here ....

Middlesex cruising, hope they go the same way as Essex! Our top 3 need to look at this, all we need is 6 good overs from them to get us on our way and we can barely manage 1!

Another amazing turnaround! Raining now as Middlesex implode. 98-8 of 16. They were 64-1 off 7.4
.
Batty the star of the show with 4-13 off his 4. Good support from Ansari and Hyphen.
Particularly pleased for Wilson that his unbeaten 50 wasn't in vain. He's bided his time and deserves his moment in the sun - and showers!

Fair comment, JimBob.

I didn't see any of the match or hear any commentaty so can't really comment on why it happened - ie great bowling or dreadful batting or a mixture. However, some very impressive returns - most of all from Batty once more. From our two T20 games, he has the incredible figures of 8-0-33-7.
As mentioned above, also particularly pleased for Wilson.
I'm still not convinced by our batting line up but certainly can't argue with the number and effectiveness of our bowlers.
Well done boys! Celebrate well and safely

Re: t20 cup
Excellent performance by the (former) Drinks carrier and Spriegel and by most of the spinners. Both batsmen and bowlers turned around the two innings after poor starts. Middlesex and Essex = two good scalps.

So far:
- My backing of Surrey as favourites have been enchanced
- Somerset still look to have a deep squad, and a pretty strong chance
- The rain is playing ruiner (as it has all year)

Re: t20 cup
I still think the balance of the Surrey side is wrong but it's hard to argue with the results, every time we are in trouble someone steps up - two excellent knocks from Wilson, 1 from Spriegel and an inspired Batty so far. I just hope that one of Roy, Hyphen, Davies or Maynard do something soon.
Oh and drop the Brain for the love of god!

On balance, that's probably a fair conclusion.
Two wins out of a two (one against an all round strong Middlesex side and the other against a decent Essex outfit).
The ability to turn both games on their head.
Accurate and effective bowling from a considerable number of spinners.
Batsmen - like Wilson and Spriegel - emerging from the shadows and coming to the party.
So why aren't I quite convinced?
Sure, most supporters have an inner feeling that their team has a special capacity to muck it up. But, as well as that and like Carrot, I'm not convinced by the balance of the side.
Maynard - once he's recovered from playing Dodgems on the Brighton seafront - needs to come in for the currently woeful de Bruyn. Consideration should also be given to Spriegel going up the order to number three in some circumstances. By all means, let Hyphen and Davies continue to try and hit six bells out of the opposition up front. However, if that doesn't come off and we lose an early first wicket, I would prefer to see the steadying influence of Spriegel rather than immediately risk Roy going the same way. Spriegel generally needs time to play himself in. Batting at three would allow him to do that.
If we carry on as we are and the top four play as well as the bowlers have been doing, we'll absolutely hammer some poor team. However, if the bowlers play as badly as the top four have been doing ....

Re: t20 cup
Surrey 14 man squad for Kent match is unchanged. I would expect team on the day to be largely unchanged, but Maynard for The Brain would be a no brainer. (As it were
)
So far in two fairly low scoring matches Nannes has bowled four overs no wicket for 37 and so should be looking to make more impact. I would reluctant to throw Tremlett into a T20 match at the moment - I don't think the competition suits him - he lacks variety when batsmen are attacking him. It would be good if le Roi
could reproduce his sensational innings against Kent of couple of years ago....
So far Surrey the only team to have got two wins in the competition, but it's very early days and the number of rained off games likely to serve as an equaliser in some of the groups.

England have made Dernbach available for Surrey's T20 match today against Kent.
On form, he should come in for Nannes although it's more likely Meaker will be left out.
