Christ this is putting the England performances against into perspective...not quite so bad after all. The corruption finally being aired, and shedding some of the tainted players, seems to have been the making of them. (ignoring the first test as that doesnt count obviously )


Meanwhile Salmon Bum is trying to get retried in Pakistan where he has new evidence (presumably in the form a a n envelope full of cash left on a judges desk) that he is innocent.

Anyone else wondering whether, having won the first test, SL have prepared a batting paradise to try and ensure a bore-draw?

No I think its just usually that flat in Sri Lanka. Pancake or not its a heck of a pooing to take in a day at home, you wouldnt expect a side like say Australia to let that happen to them *cough*

Well into the 5th day and just 12 wickets have fallen (helped by the flurry SL lost towards the end of yesterday). While the rain has not helped this is the sort of match and pitch that is driving some countries towards T20.

Nonsense, isn't it. No wonder the Sanga's and Jaya's, fine players though they are, have such inflated batting averages.

The SSC is notoriously flat - often to a ridiculous extent. Interestingly, they sent us to the two less flat venues - Galle which usually turns, and the P Sara Oval, which has something in it for everyone.

Sangakarra - Home average is 62.67, Away average is 47.17
Jayawardene - Home average is 62.82, Away average is 40.11

Pitches like this just don't help Test Cricket.

SL have collapsed to some fine reverse swing from Junaid Khan. Pakistan would have a good bowling attack if Salman Butt had not bullied and manipulated Mohammad Amir

Of course Butt did bully and manipulate Amir but Amir was old enough to know right from wrong and would have been particularly aware of the match-fixing threat as an international cricketer. It is therefore wrong to take the blame away from Amir entirely or even partially.

Except his initial defence was that his captain told him to bowl a no-ball to rough up the opponent.

Should he have stood up to Butt - yes. but we then saw whar happened with Haidar when he tried to stand up to the fixers. PCB disowned him completely.

That Amir got the same ban from cricket as butt was a complete travesty.

Quite right, Derek Bentley deserved to be hanged.

Sangakarra does average about 70 without the gloves from about 70 matches. That is one magnificent average.
